A 72-year-old Lockport woman,
Mrs. Lillian Behm, died this
morning (Feb. 6, 1960) in Inter-
Community Memorial Hospital,
Newfane. She was taken there
by the Fire Department First Aid
Squad Friday afternoon after she
was refused admission to Lock
port Memorial Hospital because
the hospital was filled.
The firemen answered a call at
4:10 Friday afternoon when Mrs.
Behm experienced difficulty
breathing in the home of her
daughter. Mrs. WlBwt E&3r, M
Akron St.
When the woman failed to respond
to an inhalator, she was
rushed to the Lockport hospital
and then to the Newfane hospital.
Dr. George H. Barone, chief of
the medical staff at Memorial
Hospital, explained today that
when Mrs. Behm arrived, all
rooms were filled.
The doctor said that in some
emergency cases a bed can be
set up in a hallway, but that
Mrs. Behm had suffered a heart
attack and needed an oxygen
tent.
State law prohibits hospitals
from setting up oxygen tents in
corridors, Dr. Barone explained.
Buffalo General Hospital was
contacted but also was unable to
accept Mrs. Behm, Dr. Barone
said. The Lockport hospital then
made arrangements for her admission
at Newfane.
Mrs. Behm, the former Lillian
Hellert, was the widow of John
A. Behm, who died in November
1952. Formerly of 1199 Stone Rd.,
she had been a Town of Lockport
resident for the past 30 years.
Mrs. Behm was a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church.
Surviving are six daughters,
Mrs. Leslie Waters of Lyndon-'
ville; Mrs. Eick; Mrs. Everett
Fitchlee, and Mrs. Robert Dodge,
all of Lockport; Mrs. Norman
Capell of Appleton, and Miss Iverna
Behm of Buffalo; three sons,
Elton A.. Delbert J. and Haftld
A. Behm, all of Lockport; a
brother, John Hellert of Medina;
19 grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren
and several nieces
and nephews.
The Rev. Ernest E. Heuer, pastor
of Trinity Lutheran Church,
will officiate at services in the
Prudden and Kandt Funeral
Home, 242 Genesee St., at 2
Monday afternoon. Burial will be
in North Ridge Lutheran Cemetery.

Evelyn moved to Barker when she married the late Norman Capell on August 9, 1941. She especially enjoyed the company of her granddaughter.

Evelyn is survived by her children Pamela (Peerce Lake) Harper of Florida and Douglas (Sue) Capell of Gasport; grandmother of Matthew (Julianna Kiley) and Maggie Capell; brother-in-law Everett Fitchlee; and Ella. She was pre-deceased by twin sons Dale and David, siblings Elton Behm, Geraldine Waters, Mildred Eick, Delbert Behm, Ruth Fitchlee, Iverna Behm, Harold Behm, and Marilyn Gauda.

LOCKPORT — Delbert J. Behm passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 in Briody Health Care Facility. Born June 24, 1920 in Cambria, he was the son of the late John and Lillian Hellert. Delbert was an Inspector and Foreman at Harrison Radiator for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jeanne (nee Martin) Behm. Father of Anne Bannister of Fairport, NY and David (late Nancy) Behm of Lockport; grandfather of Alison Trapper, Lindsay Swanson and Christopher Bannister; great-grandfather of six. He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Capell of Lockport.

MEDINA — Mr. Donald E. Hellert of Medina passed away on January 5, 2014.

Survivors include his wife, M. Adelia; four children, Donna (Jim) Ferry, Marcia (Rob) Cook, Cindy (Jerry) Moule and Terry (Kim) Hellert; a daughter-in-law, Deb Hellert; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Marion Washak, Elsie Williams, Libby Brauen, Kate Thiel and Ruby Schultz; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Randy Hellert; sister, Dorothy Schuler and brother, Robert "Butch" Hellert.

GASPORT - Marion A. Waszak, of Medina, passed away Tuesday evening, February 4, 2014, at Absolut Care of Gasport.

Marion was born October 17, 1921, daughter to the late Edward and Elsie (Mietz) Hellert. She grew up on Tonawanda Creek in Akron and was married in April of 1940 to Chester Waszak. Together they lived and raised their family in Medina. Marion was a faithful member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medina. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She opened her home, her heart and arms to all of her grandchildren and took great joy in being a part of their lives as they grew up.

Survivors include her two sons, Ronald (Vicki) Washak and Arthur (Amy) Washak; seven grandchildren, Jacqui (Bill) O'Hora, Pam Washak, Ron (Tammie) Washak, Jr., Kim Albone, Kristen (Dave) Kuch, Andrew Washak and Kari Washak; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie (Walt) Williams, Katie (Bill) Thiel, Elizabeth (late Bob) Brauen and Ruby (Lyle) Schultz; sister in-law, Adelia Hellert; also several nieces and nephews. Marion was predeceased by an infant daughter, Marjorie Louise; her husband, Chester; granddaughter, Wendy Washak-Kimber; her sister, Dorothy (late Art) Schuler and brothers, Robert "Butch" (late Ruth) Hellert and Donald Hellert.

AKRON — Robert Hellert, known as "Butch" by friends and family, entered his eternal home on June 19, 2012, to be with his wife Ruth, and his eternal Father.

Born February 2, 1923, Butch was a man of strong character and faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and dearly loved his family and friends, and his land on Johnson Road.

He is survived by his son, John Robert Hellert (Dianne), Latham, NY; and his daughter, Linda L. Peterson (Rev. Charles), DeForest, WI; grandchildren, Steffen (Rotsalinn) Hellert and Kirsten Hellert; brother, Donald (Adelia) Hellert; sisters, Marion (Chester) Washak, Elsie (Walter) Williams, Elizabeth (Robert) Brauen, Katherine (William) Thiel and Ruby (Lyle) Schultz; and many nieces and nephews. Butch was predeceased in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, Elsie and Edward Hellert and sister, Dorothy Schuler.

Elizabeth "Libby" Mae Brauen (Hellert), age 88, of Gasport, entered into rest on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo. Born on October 17, 1926 in Royalton, Libby is the daughter of the late Edward C. and Elsie M. (Mietz) Hellert. Libby married Robert Brauen on June 9, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville. Her husband, Bob Brauen, died on May 25, 1997. Together they had three children, Patricia Ann (the late Roger) Schnackel of South Carolina, Bonita Jo (Fred) Dempsey of Lockport and Steven M. (Karen) Brauen of Gasport. Dearest grandmother of Dale (Vicki) Schnackel, Todd Dempsey, Kimberly (Jason) Langhorne, Andrea (Ryan) Degenhardt, Trevor (Kate) Brauen, Tracey (Eric) Waters, Matthew (Jennifer) Brauen, and the late Michael Schnackel; and great-grandmother to 17 great-grandchildren. Sister of Elsie Williams of Florida, Kathryn Thiel of Middleport, Ruby Schultz of West Shelby, and the late Robert Hellert, Donald Hellert, Marion Washak and Dorothy Schuler. Several nieces and nephews also survive Libby. Elizabeth worked about 15 years at FMC in Middleport in data entry. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gasport for over 50 years and served her church in the Ladies Aid group and the Evangelism Committee. She loved spending time with her family having picnics and get-togethers. She enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers. She was a member of the Wolcottsville Firemen's marching band and its auxiliary, and for many years was a Girl Scout leader. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main Street, Gasport, on Wednesday, January 28th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 11:00 AM from Zion Lutheran Church, 4447 Central Avenue, Gasport, NY with the Reverend Rodney Klinzing officiating. Sylvia Nora Mahar, owner of Mahar Farms for 60 years, died Tuesday (March 25, 2003) in Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital. She was 90. Born Sylvia Haseley, she was a lifelong resident of this area and operated the family farm with her husband, Emmett J., from 1943 until his death in 1960. She continued to run the farm with the help of her children. She also worked for 10 years at Southland Foods in Barker. Mrs. Mahar was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville. She loved watching hummingbirds and growing African violets. Survivors include three sons, David of Wilson, James of Middleport and Larry of Gasport; a daughter, Linda McDonough of Olcott; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. GASPORT — Evelyn H. Wagner of Gasport, passed away on Thursday afternoon, August 18, 2011 at Niagara Hospital House. Mrs. Wagner was born in the Town of Royalton on July 6, 1925, daughter of the late Joseph and Selma (Mietz) Heim.

She was a lifelong resident of the Royalton area and was a graduate of Akron High School. She and her husband, Harold F. Wagner, were married on June 17, 1925 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville.

She was employed as the Office Manager for over fifty years for A.A. Nodine Insurance. Mrs. Wagner was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir at St. Michael's and was a long time member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was also a member of the Wolcottsville Senior Citizens and the Town of Royalton Historical Society. Mrs. Wagner was an avid gardener, enjoyed euchre and she was involved in all of her nieces and nephews lives-always remembering every birthday, anniversary or special occasion.

Mrs. Wagner was predeceased by two sisters, Pearl Voelker and Mavis Mullen; a niece, Joanne Dent; a great-nephew, Billy Mullen; and a brother-in-law, Richard Voelker. Loving wife of 61 years to Harold F. Wagner; beloved aunt to Charles (Anita) Mullen of New Jersey, William (Belinda) Mullen of Lockport, Linda (Donald) Lorentz of Orchard Park, Joseph (Tracy) Mullen of Lockport, Michael (Cathy) Mullen of Texas and Douglas Voelker of Lockport; also surviving are several great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

MIDDLEPORT — Edward P. Tryloff, of Middleport, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010 at his home. Mr. Tryloff was born in the Town of Royalton on September 10, 1934, son of the late Willis and Selma (Riemer) Tryloff and he has lived in this area all of his life.

Mr. Tryloff served in the US Army from 1957-1959 in Germany. He was employed in the maintenance department at Birds Eye Frozen Foods in Avon, NY. Mr. Tryloff was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lockport and was a member of the Men's Club of the Church. He was also a member of the German-American Social Club, the Wolcottsville and Terry's Corners Exempt Firemen. Mr. Tryloff enjoyed his family.

He is survived by four children, Douglas (De'siree) Tryloff of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Deborah (Douglas) Huntington of Gasport, Donna (Mark) VanderBosch of Barker and Daniel (Kelly) Tryloff of Gasport; five grandchildren, Nathan Huntington of Medina, Alida Tryloff and Jared Tryloff, both of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Hanna Tryloff and Hunter Tryloff, both of Gasport; two great-grandchildren, Dakoda Huntington and Lillyjean Huntington, both of Medina; brother of the late Mildred Freh and Clarice Berner; and a very dear friend, Nila Weaver.

Obituary of Duane J. Behm

Duane J. Behm passed away October 7, 2019 under the care of Niagara Hospice.  Born October 5, 1941 in Lockport he was the son of Elton and Virginia (Werth) Behm.  Duane served in the National Guard from 1964 to 1970 and worked at Harrison Radiator Division of GM as a Supervisor in the Metallurgy and Chemical Laboratory for 36 years retiring in 1998.  He was a member of the Jaycee’s serving as chairman of the Lockport Satellite for 22 years and was chairman of the Children’s Hospital Telethon.  Duane enjoyed hunting and woodworking.
Duane is survived by his wife Sharon (Felton) Behm; sons Darrin (Michelle) Behm and Eric(Anita) Behm; grandfather of Russell and Connor Behm and was the brother of Beverly (James) Penland, Lowell (Wenda) and the late Douglas Behm.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Janet K. Meier, 
of Medina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. 
Born October 28, 1938 in Medina, she was the daughter of the late William and Lydia (Hellert) Knuth. Janet graduated from Medina High School in 1957, and married the late P. Charles Meier on June 22, 1963.  Together, they made their home in Medina and raised a family of four children.  
Janet was a lifelong and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Medina, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served on the altar and ladies guilds. A homemaker most of her life, Janet also worked in the Oak Orchard Elementary School cafeteria.  
Janet’s main focus in life was her loving family. In her later years, she was assisted by a team of dedicated personal care aides, especially Rosemary Eden, for whom her family will be eternally grateful.  Janet will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.   
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, P. Charles, on December 24, 2007; and her brother, Donald Knuth in 2000. 
Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Ellen (Roger Calhoun) Meier, Charles J. (Elizabeth) Meier, Sharon (Bryan) Kleinhans and Andrew (Richard Sarrero) Meier; five grandchildren, Justin Calhoun, Madison (Michael Moody) Calhoun, Dayna Kleinhans, Katie Meier and Michael Kleinhans; sister in-law, Helen (Paul) Petit; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Norma Jean LaMachia, of Medina, passed into eternal life on October 1, 2015. Norma, the daughter of Nelson and Grace Eichelkraut, was born on September 28, 1934 in Royalton Center, and lived most of her life in Medina, NY. Norma was predeceased by her loving husband, Philip, in 2012. She is survived by her son, Philip (Michelle) LaMachia, Jr., and daughters Susan (Robert) Simbida and Lisa (Martin) Roeseler. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Matthew, Zachary and Jacob Roeseler, and Chelsea (Ben) LaMachia-Woods. She leaves behind sister-in-law Verna Iorio, along with several nieces and nephews. Norma was employed for many years by the Medina Central School District in the Wise Jr. High School cafeteria, and later as a clerical employee in the School District Office until her retirement in 1997. During her life, Norma was actively involved in the Medina Band Boosters, Red Hats, Catholic Daughters, and was a TWIG volunteer at Medina Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed camping, reading, collecting books, and sitting on her deck watching the creek. Norma was a kind woman who never hesitated to help friends in need. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends on Sunday 2-5 PM at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center Street, Medina. The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Stephen's Church in Middleport. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum. Edith A. Thompson of Lockport passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Buffalo General Hospital.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Gasport, NY on August 4, 1932 daughter of Roy and Irene (Retzleff) Wollenberg and she lived in the Gasport area most of her life. She was employed as a Sales Clerk at Woolworth Company in Lockport, NY. She and her husband Lavern Allen Thompson were married September 19, 1959 and she enjoyed her family and crafting.

She was predeceased by her husband Lavern Allen Thompson in 2011 and by a sister Marylou Kropp and a brother Carl Wollenberg.

She is survived by one son and one daughter William A. Thompson and Audrey (Robert) Evans both of Lockport, three grandchildren Lucille Thomspon, Mitchell Evans and Maxwell Evans all of Lockport.

Also surviving is a brother David (Norma) Wollenberg of Middleport, a sister-in-law Norma Wollenberg of Gasport and Shirley Thompson of Lockport and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport where funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM. David Wollenberg, age 80, of Middleport, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport surrounded by his loving family. Born June 11, 1938 in Gasport, David is the son of Roy William and Irene (Retzlaff) Wollenberg. David graduated from Royalton-Hartland Central Schools in 1955, Erie County Community College in 1957 and Buffalo State College in 1959 with a Masters Degree in Education. He married Norma Rhoadhouse November 23, 1963 at Hartland Baptist Church and worked at Newfane Central Schools as an Industrial Art Teacher for 34 years retiring in 1993. He served in the Army and Army National Guard from 1961 until 1966. David was an avid outdoorsman enjoying farming, hunting, fishing, skeet shooting and was a sporting clays competitor. David was a member of the NRA, NSCA and local sportsman clubs. Surviving David is his loving wife: Norma; children: Scott (Julie) Wollenberg, Julie (Neal) Hammer; grandchildren: Todd S. Wollenberg, Kimberly R. Wollenberg and Sean C. Hammer. Besides his parents, David is predeceased by siblings: Carl Wollenberg, Edith Thompson and his twin sister Marilu Kropp. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Marilu A. Kropp of Gasport, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 9, 2013 at the Medina Memorial Healthcare Facility. Mrs. Kropp was born in Gasport, NY, on June 11, 1938, daughter of the late Roy and Irene (Retzlaff) Wollenburg.
She has lived in Gasport all of her life and was a member of the Covenant United Church of Christ in Gasport. She was employed as a clerk for the US Postal Service in Middleport retiring after 37 years of service in 1998. She enjoyed her family, reading and she also enjoyed watching cooking shows.
She was predeceased by a brother, Carl Wollenburg; and a brother-in-law, LaVerne Thompson. She is survived by four children, Russell (Cathy) Kropp of Texas, Darrin Kropp of Gasport, Kathy (David) Sobieraski and Stacy (Lisa) Kropp, all of Lockport; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Benjamin, Amanda, Christopher, Hanna, MaKenna and Andrew; three great-grandchildren; her twin brother, David (Norma) Wollenburg of Middleport; and a sister, Edith Thompson of Lockport. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; and her caregiver, Leona.

She was a graduate of Newfane High School, attended SUNY Brockport, and received her Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Nursing from Niagara University. Susan worked as a family Nurse Practitioner for many years and received multiple service and nursing awards throughout her career. She devoted her life to caring for others and was a longtime friend of "Bill W."Susan loved the Adirondack Mountains, camping, and hiking. She enjoyed scavenger hunts, her pet cats, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.In addition to her loving companion, Tweedy Greene, she is survived by her children, Malena (Timothy) King-Jones of Sanborn, Jesse Taylor of Mt. scarred tree, inches from an
untouched telephone pole, and
a badly mangled car gave
mute testimony today to an
accident early Sunday which
took the lives of three men.
Pronounced dead on arrival
at Lockport Memorial
Hospital were:
Raymond D. Simmons Jr.,
23, of 4175 Day Road, Town
of Lockport, the driver, with
head and chest injuries.
James P. Meyers, 22, of 1
Ohio St., a passenger, head
injuries.
Samuel L. Sterling, 28 of
2720 Main St., Newfane, also
a passenger, was transferred
from Memorial here to Mount
St. Mary's Hospital, Town of
Lewiston, where he died at
about 4 a.m. Sunday. He had
suffered internal injuries.
Traveled at High Speed
Patrolmen William Parker
and Charles Sobieraski said
the crash occurred about 1:10
a.m. Sunday in Ohio Street.
Unable to question the driver
or his passengers, they said
the car had evidently been
traveling west in Stevens
Street at a high rate of speed
and was unable to stop for
the stop sign at the point the
s t r e e t dead-ended at Ohio
Street. They said the car apparently
crossed Ohio Street
and smashed into the tree,
knocking a "no parking" sign
off its metal post.
Police said Sterling had
been riding in the back seat
of the car with Meyers sitting
in the front beside the driver.
They said Simmons and
Meyers had been thrown
agak*t the dashboard and
windshield and that Storting
had been thrown against the
back of the front s e a t.
Although the late model sedan
was equipped with seat belts,
police said they were not in
use alUiough no one was
ejected from the car.

Middleport: James Edward Mahar, age 83, passed away August 15, 2022. He was born July 7, 1939 in the Town of Hartland.
Jim was a graduate of DeSales High School and retired as Superintendent of Public Works for the Village of Middleport in 2006. He was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, repairing tractors, attending Somerset Days, Elba Red Power Days and traveling to annual maple syrup events.
Jim was predeceased by his son, Paul Dutcher, siblings, William, David, Francis, and Larry Mahar.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pauline L. Mahar, children, Kim (Cono) Sammarco, Cindy (Jason) Gillard, grandchildren, Mitchell and Zachary Gillard, Angela and Cono Sammarco, Paige Dutcher, sister, Linda McDonough, his tractor team, Truman, Bob, Chad, John and Chuck.
Services for Jim will be held privately.

Linda Ann McDonough age 82 of Olcott, NY, wife of the late Robert H. McDonough, passed away after a brief illness on June 3, 2023. Daughter of the late Emmett and Sylvia (Haseley) Mahar was born on November 28, 1940 on the family farm in Hartland, NY with her 5 Brothers.
Her education started in a one room schoolhouse in Hartland and eventually graduating from DeSales Catholic High School in 1958. She furthered her education at Canisius College and Sisters Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1961.
Linda was employed at ICMH Hospital in Newfane for 47 years retiring in 2008. Many of her retirement years were spent with her grandchildren. It was always a priority of hers to attend any school function, dance recitals, sporting events and high school and college graduations.
She enjoyed camping trips to Darien Lake and Allegany as well as trips to Ireland, Cancun and Florida with family and friends. Linda enjoyed taking care of her lawn, gardening, family gatherings and bird watching right up until the present.
Linda is survived by her 3 children, Susan (Stephen) LaRose, Patrick McDonough and Mary Beth Sheehan, 5 grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mia”, Vanessa (Zachary) Kibler, Nicholas LaRose, Brenna Sheehan, Marah Sheehan and Ella McDonough. Sister in law of Maryann Mahar, Rena Eaton, Lindy (Thomas) Beilein and James (Kathleen) McDonough. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers, William, David, Francis, James and Larry Mahar.

David Mahar, 83, a lifetime resident of Gasport and Wilson, NY, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on January 2, 2020 surrounded by loving family. Born February 20, 1936 in Gasport, NY, he was the son of the late Emmett and Sylvia (Haseley) Mahar.
Dave attended DeSales Catholic School and Cornell University, where he enrolled in the ROTC program and trained to become an officer. During his training, he attended the 82nd Airborne School in North Carolina. His training with the 82nd Airborne was one of the proudest times in his life. After his discharge, he enlisted in the Army Reserves, and served at Camp Drum for many summers.
In 1967, he married Mary Ann O'Connor, mother of his four children, who predeceased him in 1979. After her passing, Dave worked tirelessly to support his children and help them develop strong work ethics and a capable approach to life. In 1992, Dave married Joan (Van Arsdale) Hartz. Together, Dave and Joan travelled consistently and spent many wonderful years together as snowbirds, enjoying time in Florida during the winter months.
Dave grew up on Mahar's Ponderosa with his family and together, they built their family farm into a successful business. In 1963, Dave went to work for Lakeside Farms in Ransomville as Manager for the large dairy, vegetable and fruit farm. He learned the business ropes there and in 1969, moved on to Frontier Stone, eventually buying the business with Bob Pass and Chuck Loiacano in 1983. Surrounded by excellent people, they ran the business successfully until selling to Redland in 1997.
Dave loved to host family parties, including everything from chicken barbeques to Father's Day feasts and August corn parties. His hobbies included hunting, photography, golf and gardening. A World War II enthusiast, Dave read countless books on the subject. A member of St. Brendan on the Lake parish, Dave was a devoted Catholic who lived a humble life and gave generously to others. Dave was a mentor to countless people, helping to shape and change lives for the better, paying forward the gift of wisdom others had given to him. Although his time was cut short with them, he loved being with his grandkids.
Dave is survived by wife, Joan Mahar; children, Maureen Mahar, Michael (Trisha) Mahar, John (Maggie) Mahar and Meg (Craig) Thrall; step-children, Bob (Lauren) Hartz, Jim Hartz and Mike Hartz; grandchildren, Mitch, Ben, Evan, Jack, Berlyn, Max, Spencer, Eli, Emma, Josh and Landon; siblings, Jim (Pauline) Mahar, Linda McDonough and Larry Mahar; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews. In addition to his late wife, Mary Ann, and his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, William Mahar and Francis (Maryann) Mahar.

RANSOMVILLE - Francis E. Mahar, 56, of Ransomville Road, died Sunday (Sept. 11, 1994) at his residence of cancer.
He was born Feb. 7, 1938, in Hartland, the son of Sylvia (Haseley) Mahar of Gasport and Emmett Mahar. A resident of Ransomville since 1971, he was the superintendent of highways for the Town of Lewiston since l986. Before that, he worked in the construction field for 30 years
Mr. Mahar worked for 19 years on highway and pipeline construction as general superintendent KNAB' Brothers of Tonawanda.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Ransomville, the Niagara County Highway Association. the Republican Committee, the 3F Conservation Club in Lewiston and the Niagara County Federation of Sportsmen.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Maryann (Ruggirello) Mahar of Ransomville; a son, Thomas P. Mahar of Ransomville; a daughter Lori Caso of Lewiston; a sister. Linda McDonough of Olcott; three brothers, David Mahar, of Wilson, James Mahar, of Middleport and Larry Mahar of Gasport; and a grandson.
He was the brother of the late William Mahar.

Mahar, 56, died of cancer Sunday (Sept. 11, 1994) in his home on Ransomville Road.
A native of the Town of Hartland, he moved to Ransomville in the Town of Lewiston in 1971. Before becoming highway superintendent in 1986, he worked in the construction industry for 30 years, including 19 years on highway and pipeline construction as general superintendent with Knab Brothers of the Town of Tonawanda.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Niagara County Highway Association, the Niagara County Republican Committee, the 3F Conservation Club and the Niagara County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs.
Survivors include his wife, the former Maryann Ruggirello; a son, Thomas P. of; a daughter, Lori Caso of Lewiston; his mother, Sylvia Haseley Mahar of Gasport; a sister, Linda McDonough of Olcott; three brothers, David of Wilson, James of Middleport and Larry of Gasport; and a grandson.

Larry Mahar, 78, of the Town of Hartland passed away at his home on April 8, 2021.  Born in Medina, NY on November 28, 1942, he was the youngest son of the late Emmett and Sylvia 
(Haseley) Mahar. 
A lifelong resident of Chapman Road, Larry was the youngest of 6 children and grew up helping his parents on the family dairy farm. He and his brothers raised dry beans, corn and well as hay.  They also ran a successful saw mill for many years, as well as raised Hereford cattle.  Larry felt his calling in life was always to be a farmer, carrying on his family tradition and legacy.  His dream was to have a barn full of International tractors, which through hard work, he was able to achieve. 
In 1998, Larry along with his wife started a successful family run business, Mahar Excavating Inc.  He took great pride in working every day with his son Joe serving the community.  Everyone knew when the big yellow pumper truck drove by, Larry was most likely behind the wheel.  He never missed a day of work- whether it was running the bulldozer, leveling with his grader or loading stone with his prized John Deere payloader into his beloved Mack Granite dump truck,  which he was fortunate enough to do right up until last week.  Larry’s business was not only his livelihood but also his passion and drive. He was still like a little kid on Christmas morning every time when a new piece of equipment came in the driveway.  His hard work and dedication allowed him to have the equipment he enjoyed  as well as building a foundation for the business to succeed in the years to come.  
Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  Larry was always a gentle friendly face who would take the time to say hello.  He enjoyed visiting with the customers as he pumped their septic tanks. He loved his big yellow dog Rosie who was his best friend and faithful companion whom he took for a ride every morning to each end of the road in his truck before going to work.   The only vacation Larry ever took was once a year to attend the WNY Gas and Steam Show with his family.   He drove his golf cart around every year finding deals in the flea market, tractors to look at and old friends to talk to.  
Larry is predeceased by his beloved wife Linda (Schwartz) Mahar.  Devoted and loving father of Rebecca (Adam) Price of Batavia and Joseph (Lyndsay) Mahar of Gasport; PaPa to Isabella, Eliza Mae, Hailey and Joey.  He is survived by his brother James Mahar and sister  Linda McDonough as well as several in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers William Mahar, David (Joan) Mahar and Francis (Maryann) Mahar. 
There will be no visitation.  A private graveside service will be held in the Hartland Cemetery.  A memorial picnic will be held this summer at the farm under the big maple trees.

Jesse Shaun Taylor, 42, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2019.  Born on May 11, 1977 in Newfane, NY, he was the son of the late Jonah Taylor and the late Susan Christine Winkley.  
Jesse was a graduate of Newfane High School.  He mainly resided in Newfane and Niagara Falls and most recently Buffalo.  Jesse was employed as a Laborer, installing hockey rinks and landscaping.  He enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and hunting.

Joseph M Udell
June 5, 1973 — March 1, 2023

(Lockport)- Joseph M. Udell, age 49, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023, following a long illness.
Joe grew up in the Lockport area, he graduated high school and became a truck driver in the Army. When he came home, he went on to work with his father at Babcock Utilities, installing pipes for natural gas underground. He eventually became a taxi driver in the local area as well. Joe enjoyed his free time going fishing and watching Star Wars and superhero movies. He was extremely loving to his family and will be remembered fondly by those who were close to him.
Joe is survived by his parents, Noreen Sue (Meyers) and Michael Babcock; daughter, Jackie-Marie (Brandon Collins) Udell-Lukacz; sister, Laurie Udell; niece, Noel Udell Spring; nephew, Michael Udell; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 11 from 12-2 at the Sherrie Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main Street, Gasport, NY 14067. His funeral service will be held immediately after calling hours at 2:00. There will be no interment.
