    D. Blackman, 67, Buffalo, were
    held today at the home of his
    brother. Walter D. Blackman. Thrall
    Road, with burial in North Ridge
    Cemetery. Mr. Blackman died Saturday
    in Buffalo. A sister. Dasie
    Blackman, Buffalo, also survives.

    Lee S. Blackman, a popular student of
    the Lockport Union school, secretary of the
    Niagara County Farmers'Club and son of
    Isaac Blackman of Cambria, sustained fatal
    injuries in a fall Wednesday evening.
    The geology class, conducted by Prof.
    Randall, made a trip up the canal to
    Hitchin's bridge, looking for specimens.
    At the quarry, where stone is being ob-
    tained for the Buffalo breakwater, there is
    an immense derrick 40 feet high. The
    central timber has iron steps for the con-
    venience of the workmen in adjusting the
    guy ropes. In order to obtain a better
    view of the nieghboring country the mem-
    bers of the geologists party climbed the
    derrick.
    Blackman, instead of returning as the
    others had done, swung out on the guy
    ropes and began desending hand over
    hand. To the horror of his comrades he
    cried out that his muscle was failing him,
    and when at a height of 25 feet fell to the
    stones below.
    He struck full on his stomach, His
    injuries resulted in death last night.

    Blackman, 79, of 574 Walnut St.,
    a resident here for the last six
    years, died today (Oct. 2, 1956) in
    Lockport Memorial Hospital after
    a short illness.
    Miss Blackman was born April
    29, 1877 in the Town of Cam-
    bria, the daughter of the late
    Isaac B. and Mary A. Blackman.
    She attended rural schools in
    Cambria, Lockport High School
    and Bryant and stratton Business
    School, Buffalo. She was a resi-
    dent of Buffalo for 50 years be-
    fore returning here.
    She is survived by a brother,
    Walter Blackman, Thrall Rd.,
    Town of Cambria, and a niece
    and nephew.
    the Rev. Ernest E. Davis, pas-
    tor of Emanual Methodist Church,
    Lockport, will conduct services
    Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Prud-
    den & Kandt Funeral Home, this
    city. Burial will be in North
    Ridge Cemetery.

    of the Cambria Congregational
    Church, where he served
    as a trustee for 50 years.
    Mr. Blackman is survived by
    his wife, the former Mae A;
    Hoag; a son, Waiter E. Blackman
    Jr., Cambria; a daughter,
    Mrs. Ralph L. Treichler, Sanborn,
    and four grandchildren.
    The Rev. David Munro, pastor
    of Cambria Congregational
    Church, will officiate at services
    at 3 p.m. Sunday at the
    Prudden & Kandt Funeral
    Home, Lockport. Burial will be
    in North Ridge Cemetery.

    CAMBRIA — Walter E. Blackman, 96, of Blackman Homestead Farm, Cambria, NY, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011, after a short illness and under loving care of nurses and his children at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY. Walter was born on December 7, 1914 in Lockport, NY, the son of Walter E., Sr. and Mae A. (Hoag) Blackman.

    He graduated from Lockport High School in 1932 and married the late Janice (Fogle) Blackman in 1938. Janice died on May 31, 1994. Walter farmed all his life on Thrall Road, Cambria and was a life member of the Cambria Congregational Church. His many civic obligations were charter member of the Cambria Volunteer Fire Company; 14 years on the Starpoint Board of Education, instituting the centralization of the Starpoint District; over 50 years on North Ridge Burial Association board; instrumental in establishment of the Inter-Community Memorial Hospital, Newfane, as a Founding Member of the Board of Directors. He served on the Cambria Zoning Board; Niagara County Civil Service Commission; Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS); and was a member of the Niagara County Farm Bureau and other agriculture organizations. He enjoyed winters at Saddlebag Lake, Lake Wales, FL, playing games of golf and horseshoes.

    He is survived by his children, Barbara A. (Harold) Hartwig, Robert E. (Margaret) Blackman, Lockport, NY and the late (infant) David Lee Blackman; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Kathleen) Hartwig of Spencerport, NY, Mary (Bruce) Zeller of Newfane, NY, Timothy (Barbara) Hartwig of Myrtle Beach, SC, Rebecca (Robert) Miller of Grand Island, NY, Julie Blackman of Lockport, NY, Jennifer (Daniel) Irvin of Prides Crossing, MA, Molly (Steven) Dunn of Danvers, MA, and Jeffrey Blackman of New York, NY; and twelve great-grandchildren, Krista Mae, Marc and Bradley Hartwig, Derek, Troy and Maegan Zeller, Robert, Elizabeth and Elaine Irvin, Jane and Evelyn Dunn and the late (infant) Robert J. Miller, Jr.

    The family will be present on Wednesday, April 27th from 7-9 PM and on Thursday, April 28th, from 2-4, 7-9 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St, Lockport, NY. Funeral service will be Friday, April 29th at 10 AM with Rev. Todd Blackley officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria. Memorials may be made to the Cambria Congregational Church, 4045 Lower Mountain Rd., Lockport, NY 14094; Cambria Volunteer Fire Company, 4631 Cambria-Wilson Rd, Lockport, NY 14094; or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
