William F. Ostwald, 73 years old, died this morning at the home of his son, William F. Jr., 122 Fredericka street. Mr. Ostwald was born in Germany. For the past 45 years he resided in North Tonawanda. He was a building contractor and a member of St. Mark's Evangelical church. He leaves a wife, Johanna; five sons, William, Walter L., Arthur J., George A., Norman G.; six daughters, Mrs. John Karkau, Mrs. Arthur Vielhauer, Mrs. William Proefrock, Mrs. Albert Roeske, Mrs. Herbert Leverntz and Mrs. Adolph Gentzer. and 22 grandchildren. Rites will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late residence at at 2:30 o'clock from the St. Mark's church. Rev. Paul H. Grethold will officiate. Burial will be in Elmlawn.

BERGHOLZ. Oct. 24 - Ernest Ostwald, 80, a life long resident of the Town of Wheatfield died yesterday at his home Luther street. Mr Ostwald was a blacksmith by trade, retiring five years ago. He is survived by his wife, Martha Stange Ostwald; a son. Edward, St. Johnsburg; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Urtel and Mrs. William Zuch, both of Bergholz; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. from the home and at 2:30 at Holy Ghost church.

Walter Ostwald Succumbs to Heat
Prostrated by the heat while driving his automobile last Thursday, Walter L. Ostwald, 53, a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda and well known builder and contractor, died Saturday at his home, 1269 Payne avenue. His death was the second in two weeks in North Tonawanda attributed to heat prostration. Arthur W. Joerg, a neighbor, being the other victim. Ostwald was a veteran of World War I and a member and director of Tonawandas Post, No. 264, American Legion, and the Eldredge Bicycle Club. He is survived by his wife, Julie, nee Kinner; a daughter, Mrs. Henry Monnett; four brothers, William, Arthur, George and Norman, and six sisters, Mrs. John Karkau, Mrs. Albert Roseske, Mrs. Arthur Veilhauer, Mrs. Herbert Leverentz, Mrs. William Proefrock and Mrs. Adolph Gentzmer, all of the Tonawandas. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the family residence by the Rev. Paul Fretthold. Interment will be in Rest Haven.

NORTH TONAWANDA — Eleanor R. (nee Leverentz) Senechal, age 88, of North Tonawanda, May 30, 2011 in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Eleanor was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. She served the Lord faithfully as an LWML officer, preschool teacher, classroom aide and volunteer. She loved sewing, cooking and entertaining guests.

She was the wife of the late Howard Senechal, who died in 1994. Beloved mother of Harold Senechal of Utica, NY, Dale (Linda) Senechal of Boston, MA, and Mark (Susan) Senechal of Houston, TX; grandmother of Matt and Brianna Senechal.

NORTH TONAWANDA — Roger W. Proefrock, age 87, of North Tonawanda, passed away on August 6, 2011, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was born February 5, 1924; his parents were the late William and Augusta Proefrock. Roger was a 1942 graduate of North Tonawanda High School, where he was active in sports and other activities. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the South Pacific. He was stationed in New Guinea, Borneo and the Philippines. After the war he was stationed in Japan for several months before returning home. As a professional carpenter for more than 50 years, Roger built and renovated many homes in North Tonawanda and the surrounding suburbs. He liked helping families create a living environment that was functional and enjoyable.

He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for over 35 years, where he was active in the church’s Senior and Male Choirs. He also had served as an Elder, Stewardship Chairman and on many other committees. He and his wife were past members of the Twin City Camera Club, spending many hours together photographing wherever their travels took them. Their other interests included tennis and bicycling.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jane (Gillman) Proefrock; a daughter, Ellen (Kirk) Menard; a son, Gary (Deborah) Proefrock; grandchildren, Matthew (Kimberly) Menard, Jeremy Menard and Heather Proefrock; a sister, Dorothy (late Jack) Pettit and many nieces and nephews.

Of Pekin, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, in Brockport, NY.  He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, on September 22, 1931, to the late George A. and Elsa M. [Buth] Ostwald.
Alan graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1949, Concordia Teachers College, IL in 1954 and Buffalo State Teachers College, NY in 1965.  He loved his career as an elementary school teacher at Holy Ghost Lutheran School, Central Lutheran School in Indiana, Newfane Elementary, and Centre Avenue, 93rd Street, and 60th Street Schools in Niagara Falls.   He retired in 1986.
He was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Pekin, NY for 60 years.
Alan loved traveling, visiting lighthouses, eating out in restaurants, and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan!
Alan was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Betty R. [Payne] Ostwald, who passed away in April of this year.
He is survived by his three children Paul (Maria) Ostwald, Beth (Carl) Dickinson and Lori Ostwald, six grandchildren Nicole (Mark) Thomas, John (Kristin) Ostwald, Julie (William) Webekind, Katherine (Matthew) Butch, Lia and Lin Dickinson, twelve
great-grandchildren Zachary Marshall, Connor and Brynn Thomas, Emma and Preston Ostwald, Elizabeth, Gregory, Mary, Peter and Thomas Webekind, Joseph and Patrick Butch, two brothers-in-law Robert E. and David R. Payne, also 3 nieces and one nephew.

Wilbert was an avid gardener and photographer. He was the husband of the late Virginia (nee Keyes) Ostwald, who died earlier this year. He is survived by his children, Dan (Sharon) Ostwald and Phyllis (William) Schnirel. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard E. Ostwald age 88 of Niagara Falls entered into rest Wednesday September 21, 2016 at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born August 8, 1928 in North Tonawanda he was the son of the late Edward and Alsophene (Broker) Ostwald. Richard was a Korean War army veteran. He was a 42 year employee of National Grinding Wheel in North Tonawanda retiring in 1987. He enjoyed wood working and golf. Beloved husband of Dorothy (Hanes) Ostwald for 64 years; Dear father of Kevin (Rose Wittkop) Ostwald of North Tonawanda, Keith (Christina) Ostwald of Lockport and Scott Ostwald of Niagara Falls; Grandfather of Kerry (Joseph) Caldwell of Niagara Falls and Nicolina Ostwald of Lockport; Great grandfather of Bryson Ostwald and Step grandfather of Michael Fura; Brother of the late Wilbert, Alvin and Edward Ostwald; Brother in law of Audrey Ostwald of Florida; Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Gladys M. Urtel, age 92, of Northgate Manor, formerly of Bergholz, was called to her heavenly home on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the facility. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on May 21, 1917 to the late Walter and Elsie (Ostwald) Urtel. She was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and was employed as a secretary at the Carborundum Company-Coated Abrasives Division, in Wheatfield, for 40 years, retiring in 1977. Gladys was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where she served faithfully as the church secretary for over 40 years, Sunday School teacher over 50 years, past secretary of the congregation for several years, Altar Guild Leader for many years and LWML Leader. She also served many years as the WNY AAL Federation Secretary and the Niagara County Sunday School Institute Secretary for many years. Gladys was a member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens.Survivors include a sister, Irene D. Walck of North Tonawanda; eight nieces and nephews, Dorothy E. Rothrock of North Tonawanda, Ralph W. BUFFALO — Irene D.E. Walck (Urtel), age 92, of North Tonawanda, was called to her heavenly home on November 20, 2011 in the Niagara Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center, Buffalo, NY, after a brief illness. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on November 11, 1919 to the late Walter and Elsie (Ostwald) Urtel. She was united in marriage to Ralph W. Walck, who entered into rest on October 2, 1995. Irene was a devoted homemaker, enjoyed sewing and quilting, was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, and a member of the missionary league.

Survivors include seven children, Dorothy Rothrock of Tonawanda, Ralph Walck, Jr. of Orlando FL, Marcia Walck of North Tonawanda, Sandra Sledziewski of Bergholz, Clair (Cindy) Walck of Niagara Falls, Robert (Susan) Walck and Gordon (Lori) Walck, both of North Tonawanda; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also predeceased by two daughters, Beverly Walck and Patricia Scholl; and a sister, Gladys Urtel.

Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road (Bergholz), in Wheatfield on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A private interment will take place with the family on Friday in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday at 2:00 PM in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 875 Eggert Drive, North Tonawanda, NY, with the Rev. Gregory Schultz, officiating. NORTH TONAWANDA-The driver of a car sought
in connection with a hit-run accident was killed early to-
day when his car hit a tree in Niagara Falls Blvd. at the
entrance of Melody Fair, Wurlitzer Park.
Roger Gordon Zuch, 19, of Klemer Rd., Wheatfield,
was promounced dead on arrival at DeGraff Memorial
Hospital, where he was taken by ambulance. He suffered
a fraactured skull and broken
left leg.
The youth was alone in the
car, North Tonawanda police
said, and failed to negotiate a
slight bend in the road, crash-
ing into the tree at 3:17 a.m.

Ralph W. Walck, Jr. age 74, of Lakewood, Florida. was called to his heavenly home, on July 15, 2022. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on September 14, 1946; Son of the late Ralph and Irene (Urtel) Walck Sr. A graduate of Niagara Wheatfield Senior High School, class of 1964. He was a former member of Holy Ghost Lutheran church, in Bergholz. Ralph enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1967, and served many years as an instructor in the reserves, eventually retiring in 1995, as a Master Sergeant. He received numerous medals during his time served. Ralph enjoyed watching NASCAR races, and was deeply interested in everything military related.Survivors include his sisters Dorothy (Dec'd Richard) Rothrock, Marcia Walck, Sandra (Dean) Durow; brothers, Clair (Cindy) Walck, and Robert (Susan) Walck, Gordon (Lori) Walck; a brother in law, Donald Scholl; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Walck and Patricia Scholl. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 11, from 5-8 PM at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield. WHEATFIELD — After a 4-year battle with kidney cancer, Patricia passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was born in Wheatfield, NY, to parents, Irene and the late Ralph Walck. In 1983, she and her husband, Don, moved to Lithonia, Georgia.

Pat worked as a server and lead trainer at Cracker Barrel, and as an administrative assistant at T, T & W for 11 years.



She was the beloved wife of Donald G. Scholl for more than 35 years. She will be forever remembered by her son, Scott by daughter, Jennifer, husband, Jason; by treasured granddaughter, Abigail; beloved siblings, Dorothy, Ralph, Jr., Marcia, Sandra, Clair, Robert, and Gordon; with twelve nieces and nephews; and many friends and extended family members. She was always a caring and a loving person. Her suffering and pain are over, for she is with the Lord.
