TONAWANDA, Dec. 10-Two old
residents of Tonawanda, stricken with
paralysis at almost identically the
same minute late Thursday afternoon.
died Friday. They were Louise
Wythe, 83 years old. 28 Scott street,
and Mrs. Anna Sylvester, 71, 22 Edith
street,
Mrs. Wythe was born in the Town
of Amherst and had lived in Tonawanda
50 years. She was a charter
member of Twin City Council. Daughters
of America, She was a "member
of the Salem Church and the
home department of the church. Surviving
are three sons. Charles and
Harry, Tonawanda. and Reuben. Syracuse;
eight grandchildren and 'one
great grandchild. The funeral will
be held at 2:30 o'clock Monday at
the home. The Rev. Walter F. Het-
zel will officiate and burial will be in
the City cemetery.
Mrs. Sylvester was a lifelong resi-
dent of Tonawanda. She is survived
by her husband Archie; a sister, Mrs.
Elizabeth Woods, Tonawanda. and two
brothers- Henry Voelker. North Tona-
wanda. and William Voelker. Pittsburgh.
Pa. The funeral will be held
at 2 30 o'clock Sunday at the home
Burial will be In the City cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Woods, 83, 98
Elmwood Park, died last evening
in DeGraff Memorial Hospital after
a brief illness. She was a
lifelong resident of Tonawanda.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs.
Albert Fetzer, Sardinia; Mrs. Ephraim
R, DePuy, Gaithersburg,
Md., Mrs. Glenn Rech and Mrs.
Herbert Hofert, Tonawanda; 19
grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren;
a brother, William Voelker
of Spears, Pa. Funeral services
will be Monday at 2 p. m.
in the home of Mrs. Hofert, 235
Morgan St. The Rev. E. C. Rorke
will officiate. Burial will be in
Sweeney Cemetery.

Frederick Voelker, 40 years old,
flagman at the crossing of the Erie
railroad and Lockport trolley line on
Young street was struck by a southbound
Wabash passenger train at
11:10 o'clock yesterday morning and
so badly injured that he died three
hours later at toe Emergency Hospital
in Buffalo.
Voelker had Just flagged a northbound
trolley car and was crossing
the Erie track, over which the Wa
bash trains run between Niagara Falls
and Buffalo, when he stepped directly
in front of the passenger train.
The flagman was hurled to one side
ot the track, unconscious and bleeding.
The train was stopped and Conductor
M. J. Nestor, Engineer David
Britt and Fireman Richard Rowling
picked him up and carried him to the
flag shanty.
Chief of Police A. F. Ellicott was
noui.ed. He took the statement of
the engineer and fireman and permitted
them to continue with their train
to Buffalo, considering them blameless
for the accident. Dr. R. H. Wilcox
was called. He had Voelker rushed
to the Emergency hospital In
Hamp's ambulance.
Voelker was unmarried, and boarded
with Mrs. Minnie Hardy of 65 Elm
street. He is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. Elizabeth Woods and Mrs. Archibald
Sylvester of Tonawanda; three
brothers Henry Voelker of North
Tonawanda, John Voelker of Niagara
Falls and William Voelker of Pittsburgh,
P.A.
Voelker's funeral will be held from
Hamp's undertaking rooms on Young
street tomorrow at 2 o'clock. Burial
will be made in the Tonawanda city
cemetery.
