JACOB SHAFER DIES
Retired Farmer Was Lifelong Town of Niagara Resident.
Jacob W. Shafer, 81-year-old retired farmer and lifelong resident of the Town of Niagara, died this morning in the family homestead in the Witmer road, where he had resided for the last 54 years. Born in the Town of Niagara on Nov. 4, 1860, Mr. Shafer attended the old Cleveland avenue school at Suspension Bridge and graduated from the Northwestern Business college at Mapleville, Ill., in 1881. He was married on April 3, 1888, to Kathleen Laur, who died five years ago. He is survived by four sons and a daughter, William J., Roy W., Lawrence R. and J. Carl Shafer, and a daughter, Mrs, Arthur Wittcopp, all of Niagara Falls, and a sister, Mrs. R. J. Brandt, of Lockport. The funeral will be held from the Redanz funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, with services at the Zion Lutheran church at 2 p.m., Burial will be in Riverdale cemetery.

Roy W. Shafer, 85, formerly of Saunders Settlement Road, died Sunday (May 24, 1981) in Fairchild Manor Nursing Home, after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of the Lewiston area, he operated the former Shafer Cinder Supply Co. for over 20 years. He later worked as a custodian at the Colonial Village School for many years. He retired in 1966. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He was the husband of the late Katherine (Stamler) Shafer and the late Marie (Springfield) Shafer. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Hazel) Falkner of Youngstown and Mrs. Loren (Dolores) Dick of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Roy J. Shafer of North Tonawanda; a stepson, Billie M. Springfield of Alexandria, Ya.; a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Mlldred) Wittcopp of DeWitt., N.Y.; also 11 grandchildren, a great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mildred K. Wittcopp, a native of Niagara County who had previously worked for the Niagara-Wheatfield School District and Niagara County Department of Social Services, died Tuesday (Oct. 14, 1997) in Clinton Lutheran Home.
Mrs. Wittcopp, 89, had resided in the Syracuse area and Clinton for the past several years. She was born in Niagara County and had been a longtime resident.
She had worked as an accounting clerk for Niagara-Wheatfield schools and then for the county Department of Social Services in Niagara Falls.
Mrs. Wittcopp also was a life member of both Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pendleton and Zion Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls.
Her husband, Arthur A., died in 1988.
Mrs. Wittcopp is survived by a son, the Rev. William A. of Rochester; a daughter, Kathryn Gentry of East Syracuse; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Burial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Acacia Park and Resthaven Memorial Garden, Pendleton.

YOUNGSTOWN — Hazel S. Falkner, of Youngstown, NY, died on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Born on May 29, 1920 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Roy and Katherine (Stamler) Shafer.

She was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School in 1938 then attended to Roberts Beauty School in Buffalo. Hazel worked as a Professional Model for the Spirella Corsett Co. Niagara Falls for 22 years and then owned her Beauty Shop called ''Beauty by Joni" for 31 years, retiring in 1987. She attended the Youngstown Senior Citizens and Lewiston Seniors for many years and was a member of the Hair Dressers & Cosmetologists Assoc. Hazel enjoyed helping the elderly community in Youngstown, and was most well known for her many stylist hats.

Hazel was predeceased by her husbands, Earl Lenhart and Carl Falkner; and a sister, Dolores Dick. She is survived by a brother, Roy (Patricia) Shafer of Youngstown; her step-son, William Falkner III (Sue Walsh); a step-grandaughter, Jessica Falkner; her longtime companion, Earl Honadle; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville, on Friday from 3:00-7:00 PM. Funeral service will be held on Saturday (July 2nd) at 11:00 AM with Rev. YOUNGSTOWN — Roy J. Shafer, age 85, of Youngstown, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at his home, under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.

Roy was born October 24, 1927 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Roy W. and Katherine (Stamler) Shafer. He was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and served in the Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1947. Roy attended Niagara University and in 1953 he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University. On May 25, 1956, he married Patricia A. (Swift) Shafer and they have resided in Youngstown for nearly 30 years. Roy was employed by Herbert F. Darling, Inc. for 37 years, retiring as Vice President of Construction and Safety. After retiring from Darling, Roy ran his own consultant business, RJS Consultants in Youngstown and was also a sales representative for Canadian Metal Rolling Mills, Ltd. of Mississauga, Ontario.

Roy cherished and proudly led his family as head of the household. He always made sure that everyone and everything was "taken good care of." He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren often assisting with various projects or attending sporting events. He engrained the values of education and hard work to his family. Roy also valued his friendships that he made throughout his life often telling the same jokes or stories during breakfast or lunch outings with the "boys".

He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Lewiston and Zion Lutheran Church. Roy was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Military Engineers, Deep Foundation Institute, Past Chairman of the Pile Driver Committee of the Construction Industry Employers Association of Western New York, and past Chairman of the Safety Committee of the Chapter.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, Scott S. Shafer of Ransomville, Starrin R. Shafer of Greenville, SC, and Steven S. (Stephanie S.) Shafer of Windsor, England; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jonathan) Payne, Jonathan, Abigail and Julie Shafer, Joshua and Tyler Koepsell; and two great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne T. Shafer-Koepsell and two sisters, Hazel Faulkner and Dolores Dick.

Memorial service will be held during the peak of summer at the lake; Roy's most favorite place to be, at a date and time to be announced. Memorials may be made in his honor to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094; or to Autistic Services, Inc., 4444 Bryant & Stratton Way, Williamsville, NY 14221. Bob owned and operated Shafer’s Farm in Middleport. He was an honorary member of the Middleport Fire Department. Bob enjoyed going camping, fishing, watching NASCAR, and the Buffalo Bills. He was always known for a good laugh and his “dad jokes” being not funny at all.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Anita Shafer, children, Robert J. (Mae) Shafer Jr., Bonnie Shafer, Jackie (John) Woolbright, grandchildren, Matthew Woolbright, Kaytlin Woolbright, Lisa Shafer, great-grandson, John Karr, stepchildren, Karen (Bruce) Rutherford, Janice (William) Whetstone, Julie (late Lou) Santos, Sandee (Donald) Lepkoske, several more step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home 38 State St. Middleport, NY 14105 on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 3:00-6:00pm. A private graveside service will be held at Hartland Central Cemetery.

BUFFALO — Charlotte J. Bruening (Voelker), age 76, of the Town of Lewiston, was called to her heavenly home on June 9, 2011 in Buffalo General Hospital. Born in the Town of Niagara, NY on June 23, 2011 to the late Frederick and Viola (Collins) Voelker. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant with the Niagara Wheatfield School District, until her retirement. Charlotte was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, member of the Sanbornite Seniors, enjoyed astrology, crocheting, rock collecting and was an avid reader.

Survivors include her son, Mark (Susan) Bruening of Mechanicsburg, PA; five grandchildren, Blaine (Brie) Bruening, Stephen Bruening, Daniel Bruening, Casey Coull and Cody Coull; and one great-grandchild, Colin Bruening. She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Coull and a sister, Shirley Hileman.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, June 11 at 1:30 PM in the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road (Bergholz), in Wheatfield. Visitation will follow the service from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Interment will take place in Mount View Cemetery, Town of Cambria, on Monday at 9:30 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.

Marilyn Grace Corp, 83, of Rotonda West, FL, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Marilyn was born to Clarence and Myrtle Shafer on July 6, 1933 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada 
She was employed and retired from GM in Lockport, NY after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Ransomville, NY. She enjoyed traveling, camping and yearly fishing trips with her family and friends. Holiday gatherings with family were always a special occasion for her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will forever be missed by all who loved and knew her. 
Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Carl, Jr.; two sons, Robert Corp of Hamburg, NY and Steven (Lori) Corp of Rotonda West; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in western NY at a later date by the family. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Port Charlotte Chapel.
