The daughter of a Niagara
Falls pioneer f a m i l y , Miss
Emma A. Witmer, 86, of 1600
Cleveland Ave., died Sunday
(June 4, 1961) at home after a
short illness.
Miss Witmer was born in
Niagara Falls, the daughter
of John M. Witmer and Julia
Baer. Her grandfather, Christian
H. Witmer, operated a
grist mill and was a miller.
Witmer Road, in the towns
of Niagara and Wheatfield,
was named after the family.
Miss Witmer was one of the
oldest m e m b e r s of First
Christian Church. She taught
in its Sunday School 43 years
and was a member of ts Empire
Bible Class.
Surviving is a sister, Mrs.
Julia Hotchkiss, Hamburg.
The service will be held at
1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the
Gridley Funeral Home with
Rev. James E. Farrell officiating.
Burial will be in Riverdale
Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral
home -from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m.

Funeral services for Miss Grace
A. Witmer, 70, a native of this
city who died at her home at
Hamburg yesterday, will be held at
the Fraehle Funeral Home, Hamburg,
at 2 p.m. on Monday.
Miss Witmer lived here for about
30 years and was a graduate of
Niagara Falls High School.
Surviving are four sisters. Mrs.
Julia Hotchkiss, Hamburg; Dr.
Frances . Witmer, LeRoy; Miss
Emma A. Witmer and Miss Edith
M. Witmer, this city; a brother,
Christian H. Witmer, this city.
Burial will be in Riverdale
Cemetery.

Howard B. Witmer, 55, a descend-
and of one of the area's oldest
families, died today at his home,
1600 Cleveland avenue, after a long
illness.
He was a grandson of the late
Christian Witmer who settled here
in 1809 and who operated a flour
mill for a number of years.
Mr. Witmer is survived by a broth-
er, Christian H., this city, and five
sisters, Miss Edith M. Witmer, Miss
Emma A. Witmer, both of this city,
Mrs. Julia Hotchkiss, Miss Grace
A. Witmer, both of Hamburg, and
Dr. Frances M. Witmer, Leroy.
The Rev. J. Burdette Charles will
officiate at funeral services at the
home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
Interment will be in Riverdale cem-
etery.
