LOCKPORT — Bernard W. Zapp passed away, unexpectedly, September 20, 2011 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born August 23, 1925 in Lockport, he was the son of John and Frances (Moran) Zapp. Bernard served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946 on the USS Lacerta, where he was a radio operator. Upon returning from service he went to work and retired from Harrison Radiator, Div. of G.M. Bernard was a member of the VFW Post 2535 and enjoyed visiting family and friends, hunting, fishing, camping and sports. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor (Spade) Zapp on October 7, 2003; and his son, Timothy Zapp on July 9, 2011.

Bernard is survived by his two sons, Terry (Fukumi) Zapp of Arizona and Michael (Christine) Zapp of Lockport; father-in-law of Karen Zapp of Newfane; brother of Jean (late Richard) Brauer and the late John Zapp, Harold Zapp and Rosemary Glena; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

LOCKPORT — Jean Brauer, 85, of Lockport, entered into rest on April 12, 2013, after a brief stay at the very caring Niagara Hospice. Born in Lockport, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances (Moran) Zapp. She was predeceased by her four siblings, Harold Zapp, Bernard Zapp, Rosemary Glena and John Zapp.

She was a beautiful, kind, giving, frugal woman who dedicated most of her life to her late husband of 61 years, Richard Harold Brauer. She loved spending time with their five children, 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She belonged to St. Mary's and St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Churches. She was a member of the Lockport Hospital Guild, Gathering Gals Bridge Club and Newfane Senior Citizens Golden Age Club. Jean was a great bid Pitch player, square dancer, excellent cook and loved canning fresh vegetables and fruit. Jean worked at the old Norway as a cashier, in the office of Bells IGA and Niagara Auto Body Shop, and various jobs at the Union-Sun & Journal.

Jean is survived by her five children, Larry (Jackie) Brauer, Jeannine (John) Benoit of Lockport, Alan (Beverly) Brauer of South Carolina, Janet (Ted) Dudley and David (Sonya) Brauer, who both reside in Florida.

Friends and family may call from 4-7 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, in Lockport on Monday, April 15th. A memorial service will be held for all Tuesday, April 16th at 10 AM, at the funeral home, followed by a burial service at Glenwood Cemetery. Dolores Dowd passed away peacefully on Easter in Eastern Niagara Hospital surrounded by her family after a short illness. Born May 3, 1925 in Lockport, daughter of the late Corrine (Blazing) and George Zapp. She attended Lockport schools and was employed by Harrison Radiator. In 1946 she married Nicholas C. Dowd, together they raised five loving children.

They owned and operated Dowd Dry Cleaning and Ruth's Antiques for many years. Dolores was an accomplished seamstress and she was later employed by Peter's Dry Cleaners. She was known for her seamstress skills and served many with her trade. Many of her creations were donated to veterans, hospitals and nursing homes. Dolores was fun loving, selfless and always up for an adventure.

She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting new places. She once signed her family up for a local road rally around Lockport and won the award for most people in a car with 14 people. Dolores was a lifelong communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her family.

She is predeceased by her brother, Roy G. Zapp; her husband, Nicholas C. Dowd and her son, Nicholas (Darlene) G. Dowd. She is survived by her children, Stephen J. Dowd, Diane (Stanley) Harzewski, Christine (Todd) Schwartz, Jeanine(Mark) Grosso; her grandchildren, Stephen and Matthew Dowd, Gregory, William, Carrie and Benjamin Harzewski, Kiki, Gretchen Schwartz, Kathleen and Nicholas Dowd and Gianni Grosso; along with eight great grandchildren.

Visitation to be held Friday, April 11, at Ross Funeral Home Gaul Chapel 263 East Ave. in Lockport from 4 to 8 PM. Myers passed away May 28, 2021 in Lockport Rehab & Health Care Center.  Born January 5, 1933 in Lockport she was the daughter of Myron and Helen (Zapp) Sanford.  She graduated high school and worked in production at Harrison Radiator Div of GM.  Rita enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was predeceased by her husband Emmett Myers in July of 1985.
Rita is survived by her two sons Ronald (Debra) Myers and Donald (Patricia) Myers; grandchildren Dan, Jennifer, and John; great grandchildren Sammy, Abigail, and Nicholas; also several nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband she was also predeceased by her siblings Leslie Sanford and Doris Robinson.

Leslie Charles Sanford of Lockport entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Eastern Niagara Hospital. He was born October 15, 1929 in Lockport, the son of the late Myron and Helen Sanford.

He was an avid bowler and sports fan. He was married 44 years to the late Lewetta Sanford.

He is survived by his children, Patricia Stoddard (Clarence), Nancy Hummel (Steve), Lori Piscicelli (Nicholas), and Judy Michaels. His grandchildren; Cheyenne Rhodes, Tracey Linderman, Scott Stoddard, Matthew Stoddard, Joni Janis, Christy Hummel, Michael Madson, and Christopher Madson. He is also survived by a sister, Rita Myers, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday January 9 at 11am. It will be held at the Emmanuel Methodist Church, corner of Washburn St and East Ave in Lockport. There will be no prior viewing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the charity of your choice.

Katherine enjoyed trips to the Amish country in PA and was known on her John Deere Tractor mowing her lawn and the neighbors.
