    GOSHEN, IN — Allen L. Sprenger, age 88, of Goshen, IN, formerly of North Tonawanda, September 24, 2012, at his home. He was born June 3, 1924 in North Tonawanda, NY to Walter and Mabel (Reick) Sprenger. On September 11, 1948, in North Tonawanda, he married Norma L. Freck. She died on December 26, 2008 in Elkhart, IN.

    Surviving are two sons, Daniel Sprenger of Tennessee and Mark (Darvene) Sprenger of New Jersey; two daughters, Deborah (Melvin) Camburn of Michigan and Denise (Daniel) Balmer of Indiana. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one brother, Kenneth (Betty) Sprenger of North Tonawanda, NY. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton Sprenger.

    Allen was a US Navy veteran serving in WWII. He was a member of the VFW and a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Goshen, IN. Allen enjoyed carving, woodworking and gardening. He was a baker employed by the state of New York. He retired in 1987 and moved to Goshen in 1988.

    Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Thursday from 1-3 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 3 PM, the Rev. Dr. A.W. Moldenhauer will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery.     Kenneth W. Sprenger, age 87, of North Tonawanda, went to be with his Lord on September 25, 2014, after a brief illness.

    Ken was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a life-long member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and served as Chairman of its Board of Education and P.T.L. He was retired from the printing division of Marine Midland Bark. Ken wrote a column titled "Outdoors with Ken Sprenger" for 42 years for the Tonawanda News, as well as a column titled "Camera and Comments." He was a member of the N.Y.S. Outdoor Writers Association since 1970, and was a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. He was a co-founder of the Niagara County Fishery Board. He was a former President of the Niagara County Federation of Conservation Club. He started the Niagara County Junior Conservation Group. He was a life-time member of the Tonawanda Sportsman Club and served as a counselor for the junior sportsman; he also wrote and published "The Sportscaster." He served as a special Conservation Deputy for the Niagara County Sheriff's Department.

    Ken was the son of the late Walter and Mabel (Reick) Sprenger. Beloved husband of Betty Jane (nee Zastrow) Sprenger for over 63 years. Dear father of Laurie (Charles) Schmidt of Bergholz and Cindy (John) Kosek of Bennington, NY. Grandfather of Wayne Schmidt, Evelyn (Aaron) Arnst, Jeanette Schmidt and Peter (Amy) Kosek; great-grandfather of Layla Schmidt. Brother of the late Allen and Carlton Sprenger. Brother-in-law of Linda Robinson and Judy Zastrow.

    Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM from St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 875 Eggert Dr., No. Tonawanda, the Rev. Steven Naylor will officiate. Interment in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or Niagara Hospice.
