Roy Hewitt, descendant of
earlysettlers of Niagara County'
and a former member of the
New York State Assembly* died
Sunday (Dec 15, 1968) in Memorial
Hospital.
Mr. Hewitt, who was 88, resided
at 5927 Military Road.
He operated a. farm for 50
years in Military Road. Mr,
Hewitt's great-grandparents suffered
the loss of their home during
the War of 1812 when it was
burned by hostile Indians. Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Hewitt escaped
to Batavia but later returned to
build a home in Lewiston Road.
The Hewitt, family's Niagara
County heritage dates back to
the turn of the 19th century
when Joseph moved here from
Connecticut .
Roy Hewitt's engagement in
politics came easily' since his
forefathers were, instrumental
in the formation of the political
structure of Niagara County.
He was supervisor of the
Town of Lewiston from 1924 to
1939. He served.three terms in
the State Assembly in what was
then known as the 2nd Niagara
County Assembly District.
Mr. Hewitt was a member of
Niagara River Lodge, F&AM,
for -65 years and Sacarissa
Lodge, IOOF, for 60 years.
H£ was also a member of the
Royal Arch-Masons and Knights
Templar.
Mr. Hewitt and his wife,
Edna, who survives him, were
members of the Pierce Avenue
Presbyterian Church for 49
years. The couple celebrated
soonsortheir
65th wedding anniversary
May 11 of this year.
Mr. Hewitt is also survived by
two sons, Russell Hewitt, this
city, and J. Paul Hewitt of Lewiston,
chairman of the Niagara
County Board of Supervisors;
four daughters, Mrs. Arthur
(Doris) Shrubsall and Mrs.
Norma Stagg, this city; .Mrs.
Howard (Ruth) Davidson, Falls
Church, Va., and Mrs. Kenneth
(Grace) Potten, Lewiston. Four
grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren
also,; survive.
Another daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth
Robertson, predeceased
him.
Funeral services will be held
Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at
Pierce. Avenue Presbyterian
Church with the Rev. Roger
Purdy officiating. Burial will
be in North Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Cornell
and Daggett Funeral Home
today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday
from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Niagara River Lodge will hold
a memorial service Tuesday at
7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

All we know is he was married to Ruby Nicks (G Aunt). She had only one
husband. Not sure of him. He was born 17Apr1906 and died Oct 1969 in
Florida. She was born 1905 to feb 1998. They had no children. His SSAN is
094-07-4714. Hers is 262-46-8913.
Any info you have on him would be helpful for possible future reference.
