    former presidents Grover Cleve-
    land and Herbert Hoover, Zeeler
    became chairman of the board
    of the tanning company in 1941
    and his brother, Edward G. Zel-
    ler, was elected president.

    BUFFALO. Aug. 27.-J. Fred Zeller,
    prominent Buffalo businessman until
    he moved to California 18 years ago,
    was killed Instantly yesterday in an
    automobile accident while motoring
    from Laguna Beach to Riverside,
    Calif., where he lived. The accident
    occurred at Olive, Calif.
    Before moving to California. Mr.
    Zeller was in business with his two
    brothers, Henry C. Zeller and Edward
    G. Zeller. the firm being known as
    G. F. Zeller's Sons, Inc.
    While In Buffalo. Mr. Zeller was
    married to Miss Jessie Thomas of
    Cuba, N. Y.. who survives. Others
    surviving are his two brothers, above
    mentioned, and two sisters, Mrs. William
    H. Beier and Mrs. J. F. Whitwell.
    both of Buffalo. The funeral
    services and burial will be held In
    Riverside.

    William Z Beier, of 272 Warren
    Ave., died in Buffalo General Hos-
    pital Saturday. He was 60.
    Mr. Beier, president of the Buf-
    falo Extract and Supply Co. for 21
    years, was a native of Buffalo.
    He attended School 16, Fosdick-
    Masten Park High School and the
    Pratt Insstitute of Technology,
    Brooklyn.
    Before heading Buffalo Extract,
    he was superintendent of G. F.
    Zeller's Sons and Cataract Chemi-
    cal Co.
    Mr. Beier was a member of
    Washington Lodge 240, F. & A.M.
    and the American Leath Chemi-
    cals Association.
    He is survived by his wife, the
    former Irene Clark; three sons,
    William c., Donald F., and Robert
    D. Beier; a daughter, Mrs. Jean
    B. Smith and a brother, Bert L.
    Beier, of Scranton, Pa.
    Funeral services will be at 2
    p.m. Tueday at the Myers Fu-
    neral Home, 4614 Main St., Sny-
    der. The Rev. Ralph W. Loew, pas-
    tor of Holy Trinity Lutheran
    Church, will officiate. Burial will
    be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

    Two Town of Tonawanda men drowned early
    today after their car crashed through a guard rail at
    the end of Parker Boulevard in the town and plunged
    into Ellicott Creek.
    They were identified as Robert D. Beier, 30, of
    108 Ames Ave., and Charles R. Burns, 18, son of
    Mr. and Mrs. J. Donald Burns, 24 Ebling Ave.
    Mr. Beier, who celebrated his 30th birthday
    yesterday, was owner of the Plant Land Nursery,

    860 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda. Young
    Burns, a Kenmore East High School senior, was a
    part-time employe at the nursery.
    Town police said a truck driver, Eugene L. Darlak,
    182 Witmer Road, North Tonawanda, spotted
    the overturned car in the creek shortly before 7 a.m.
    Mrs. Kenneth W. Johnson, 2735 Parker Blvd.,
    Town of Tonawanda, told police she heard a crash
    about 2:30 a.m. The clock in the car had stopped at
    2:28 a.m.
    Dr. Ralph Smith, Erie County medical examiner,
    listed the cause of death as accidental drowning.
    Town police said one body was in the front seat, the
    other in the rear when the car was pulled from the
    creek. Only the rear wheels were out of the water.
    The car is owned by Burns' father.
    Young Burns, a native of Gait, Ont., moved to
    the Town of Tonawanda six years ago. He was a
    neighbor of Mr. Beier's until last August when the
    Burns family moved from Ames Avenue to their
    present address.
    Mr. and Mrs. Burns said their son, an only child,
    had planned to study horticulture at Alfred University
    next year.
    Mr, Beier, who lived with his mother, Mrs.
    Irene Beier, is a native of this area and had lived in
    the township four years. He was a member of the
    New York State Nurserymen's Association and a
    U.S. Army veteran.
    Survivors include his mother, two brothers, William
    C. of Coudersport, Pa., and Donald F. of the
    Town of Tonawanda, and a sister, Mrs. Jean B.
    Smith of Buffalo.
