    Louis a Wilke, 81, a founder
    and one of the most active mem-
    bers of Grace Lutheran Church,
    North Tonawanda, died today in
    DeGrass Memorial Hospital after
    a short illness.
    His death terminated a 52-year
    record of perfect attendance at
    the church's Sunday School.
    Mr. Wilke, a lifelong resident of
    North Tonawanda, was treasurer
    of Wagenschuetz Hardware Inc ,
    230 Oliver St., where he had
    been employed since he was 14
    iyears old.
    n 1956 Mr. Wilke received a
    golden hammer from the Estwing
    Manufacturing Co. of Rockford,
    Ill., whose products he sold
    throughout his 67-year career at
    the store. The hammer commem-
    orated 60 years' service in the
    hardware industry.
    Grace Lutheran Church was or-
    ganized 53 years ago in the third-
    floor hall of Mr. Wilke's hard-
    ware store, on Jan. 21, 1906.
    His numerous activities in con-
    nection with the church include
    the position as a Sunday School
    superintendent for 25 years, and
    as the church's financial secre-
    tary for 20 years.
    He was the first president of
    the grace Lutheran Brotherhood
    in 1920 and 1921, and had served
    as president of the New York
    State Luther League, the Buffalo
    Luther League, his church's first
    bowling league, the Union Broth-
    erhood, the Grace Lutheran
    Church, the Retail Credit Bureau
    and the Church cabinet. He was
    vice president of the Twin City
    Council of Churches from 1939 to
    1942.
    He regularly attended synod
    and other meetings all over the
    country, was several times elect-
    ed a delegate to the United Lu-
    theran Church conventions and
    held numerous offices in Luther-
    an groups.
    Arrangements are being made
    at the Brunner Funeral Home, 156
    Robinson St., North Tonawanda.
    Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday
    in the Grace Lutheran Church.

    Saturday (April 2. 1955) at San
    Antonio, Tex., after a long illness.
    She was a native of the Tonawandas,
    and the widow of the late Henry
    Papke. She is survived by a
    daughter, Mrs. Ellsworth Lorms of
    San Antonio; three sisters, Mrs. Albert
    Ensminger of the Town of
    Tonawanda, Mrs. William R. Martin
    of Tonawanda and Mrs. George
    Kroenig of North Tonawanda; a
    , brother, Louis Wilke of North Tonawanda,
    and two grandsons. The
    body will arrive Thursday at the
    Hilliard Funeral Home, 147 Delaware
    St., where services will be
    held Friday at 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
    at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran
    Church, Bryant and Thompson
    Sts., North Tonawanda. The
    Rev. Merton L. Baseler will officiate.
    Burial will be in White
    Chapel Cemetery.

    entered into rest on Sunday
    (June 29, 1969) at the Delaware s e v e n grandchildren, and one
    Nursing Home.
    She was a lifelong resident of
    Tonawanda and a member of
    Grace Lutheran Church.
    Beloved wife of the late Al-
    bert S. Ensminger; mother of
    Mrs. Chauncey (Evelyn) Ap-
    pleby of Tonawanda and the late
    Clayton Ensminger; also
    survived by three grandchil-
    dren, eight great-grandchildren
    and one great-great-
    granddaughter.
    Friends may call at the
    Creasey Memorial Chapel, 138
    Delaware St., Tonawanda,
    where services will be con-
    ducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the

    Wilke) Martin, 73, of 50 North
    Elmwood Park, Tonawanda, died
    Friday evening (Dec. 4, 1959) in
    the North Town Nursing Home af-
    ter several months' illness. Born
    in North tonawanda, she had
    been a resident of the Tonawan-
    das all of her life. Mrs. Martin
    was a member of Redeemer Lu-
    theran Church, the Ladies Guild,
    and the Lutheran Women's Mis-
    sionary League of the church. She
    is survived by her husband, Wil-
    liam R. Martin, Sr.; a daughter,
    Mrs. David H. Wasson of Johns-
    town, Pa.; two sons, William r.
    Martin, Jr. of Syracuse, N.Y.,
    and Glenn W. Martin of Tonawan-

    NORTH TONAWANDA — Mary A. Henry, 95, formerly of North Tonawanda, died peacefully Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage, NY. She had resided there since May of 2009.

    Mary was born August 9, 1915 in North Tonawanda, the daughter of George W. and Lillian Wilke Kroening. She married Duane D. Henry July 21, 1940, in North Tonawanda. She was a school teacher in North Tonawanda for 26 years. Mr. Henry died September 28, 1975.

    Following her retirement Mary worked as a volunteer for Literacy Volunteers group and traveled extensively. She was a member of Payne Avenue Christian Church in North Tonawanda. She moved to the Watertown, NY area in 2003.

    She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Gretchen and Ned Martelle of Henderson, NY; a son and his wife, William and Katie Henry of Caledonia, NY; a son-in-law, Albert Welle of Lily Dale, NY; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Welle on August 10, 2007.

    Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, North Tonawanda. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Mary's life on November 20, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Payne Avenue Christian Church, 1459 Payne Avenue, North Tonawanda, with Rev. Jerry McGlone.     TONAWANDA — Doris (nee Wilke) Graff, age 85, of Tonawanda, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Sheridan Manor Nursing Home, after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret (nee Garrity) Wilke and had been a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas. Mrs. Graff was a crossing guard and Police Matron in Tonawanda for 30 years, before retiring in 1986. She was the sister of the late Lois Simpson.

    She is survived by her husband, Jay B. Graff; two sons, Raymond (Marie) Graff and Richard (Annette) Graff; her brother, Richard (Joan) Wilke; and five grandchildren, Kevin (Becky Reid) Graff, Leah Graff, Steven (Jamie) Graff, Danielle Graff and Amanda Graff. Also surviving are two great-grandsons, Kyle and Ben.

    The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Tuesday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda, where a memorial service will be held at 8 PM on Tuesday. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to the Michael J. Fox Foundation are preferred by the family.
