NORTH TONAWANDA — John L. "Jack" Haacker, Jr., age 65, of North Tonawanda, peacefully entered into rest on Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Buffalo General Hospital, after a brave fight with brain cancer. Born in North Tonawanda, NY, to the late John L. and Imogene (Rech) Haacker, he had been a resident of North Tonawanda for the greater part of his life. Jack graduated from North Tonawanda High School, where he was an accomplished swimmer. He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He had been employed for Durez Plastics for 25 years, retiring when the plant closed in 1994. Jack was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in the City of Tonawanda, where he served as a Deacon and Sexton. He was a member of the Stephen Sikora Post #1322 American Legion and founder of the "HaackerDome". Jack was an avid gardener, a skilled craftsman, and always willing to lend a hand.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janet L. (nee Jayne) Haacker; two sons, Joshua (Jessica) Haacker of Los Angeles, CA, and Jacob (Jennifer) Haacker of North Tonawanda; four grandchildren, Sylvia, Noah, Juliana, and Jackson; two brothers, William "Bill" (Brenda) Haacker of New Bern, NC, and Fred "Fritz" (Linda) Haacker of Endicott, NY; also survived by many loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 25 William St. (Between Morgan and Broad Sts.), City of Tonawanda. A Memorial Service in celebration of Jack's life will be held on Thursday, May 24th at 6 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 149 Broad St. in the City of Tonawanda. Rev. Edmund Hoener will officiate. Private burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation Elm & Carlton Sts., Buffalo, NY 14263.
