WILSON, April 22.-Louis Rohring,
74 years old, died at the home of his
brother, William C. Rohring, on Lake
street, Saturday afternoon. Mr. Roh-
ring had been ill since last November
but was confined to his bed only one
week.
He was born at Axelshoff. Germany
in 1860 and came here In 1882.
With the exception of four years in
Pennsylvania and one year In Roches-
ter, he had spent his entire life in
this township. He was a farmer and
a member of St. Peter's Lutheran
church of North Ridge.
In 1886 he married Lena Rohring,
who died three years ago. He is sur-
vived by three sons, Edward, Walter,
and Howard, all of Wilson; ten grand-
children; one great grandchild; two
brothers, John C., of North East, Pa.,
and William C. of Wilson, at whose
home he died, and one sister. Mrs.
Hannah Schrader. of Lockport.
The funeral wlll be held Tuesday
afternoon at 1:30 from the William
C. Rohring home and at 2 o'clock
from St. Peter's church. Rev. John
P. Barkow will officiate and burial
will be in St. Peter's Lutheran ceme-
tery, North Ridge.

where he had been a patient

Born in Germany Dec. 5, 1872,
Mr. Rohring came to the United
States with his parents in 1885. The
family took up residence in Brayley
Rd. His parents were Charles and
Wilhelmina Rohring.
Mr. Rohring married Reka Kraus
of this village in 1893. She died
in 1931. He was married to Cecilia
Kiegler, Buffalo, in 1933.
Survivors include his wife; five
sons, Elwood, Glenn,-.Clarence,
Wesley and Levell Rohring; a'
daughter, Mrs. Mabel Urtel, all of,
the Town of Wilson; two stepsons
August Kiegler, Buffalo, and Paul
Kiegler, Hopewell. Va.; 20 grandchildren

He was predeceased by a son, Wilbur-
Rohring. All his children were
born during his first marriage.
Mr. Rohring operated a farm in
Town Line Rd. until 1926 when
he retired from farming. He served
as tax collector for two years, as
superintendant of highways for 10
years and as a member of the Board
of Assessors for 20 years, 18 of
which as chairman.

at 2 p.m. Friday at thc residence,
and at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran
Church. North Ridge, at
2:30. Burial will be in the Lutheran

WILSON — Ruth Caroline Shaffer, 89, died peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2011 at Viera Hospital. She was born on May 1, 1922 in Newfane, NY, to Walter M. and Lena (Donner) Rohring.



Ruth grew up on farms in Wilson, NY. After graduation from high school, she worked at Moore Business Forms in Niagara Falls. She served in the Women's Army Corps from 1945 to 1946 working in hospitals. On July 12, 1947 she married James C. Shaffer. They spent most of their life in Lewiston, NY. Ruth continued her education after starting a family. She graduated from Trott Vocational High School's practical nursing program and then worked as an LPN at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital until retirement. She was a member of the former Hope Lutheran Church, Town of Niagara and its Ladies Guild. In 1993, she and her husband moved to Melbourne, FL. In Florida she did respite volunteer work and enjoyed making crafts at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she was a member.



Ruth is survived by her devoted family, including husband, James Shaffer; daughter Barbara of Arizona, Daughter Diane (Bernard) of California; son, Gary (Jane) of Maine; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; also survived by brothers, Donald of Largo, FL and Allen (Anne) of Wilson, NY; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruth leaves behind special friends, Jeanette Kroening and Huguette Pyska. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Walter; and great-granddaughter, Lyla Pyska.



There will be a visitation from 2-3 PM on Sunday, November 27th at Florida Memorial Funeral Home, where a funeral service will begin at 3 PM in the chapel. Entombment will be at Florida Memorial Gardens. Home at last. He has now met his wonderful Savior, Jesus, face to face. His greatest hope would be that you also would see Him face to face in Heaven.

Eighty-eight full years of being a farmer, United States Marine, business owner, 40 years as a Gideon, member of First Baptist Church in Wilson, and someone who never retired. That is the legacy that Allen Rohring left to us. He was a man of faith who loved his Lord, his family, those in jail and those in need. His acts of generosity will be remembered and carried on for generations to come. One of his favorite Bible verses was Ephesians 2:8-9: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.”

He will be missed but never forgotten by his family: precious wife of 65 years, Anne (Goodman) and children Peter (Lezlee), Thomas (Janell), JoAnne Bradford (Bud), Jeffrey (Janet), Rodney (Ann) and Steven (Laura), as well as 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Durwood was born on December 16, 1928 in the Town of Cambria, NY. He is the son of the late Howard A. and the late Florence M. (Koller) Rohring. He married Audrey A. Rohring on April 22, 1950. LEWISTON — Russell E. Urtel, age 89, of the Town of Cambria, entered into rest on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Born May 21, 1922 in Wilson, Russ was the son of the late Edward L. and Mabel I. (Rohring) Urtel.

He married Dorothy (Flagler) Urtel June 20, 1942, at Exley United Methodist Church of Wilson. Dorothy died December 1, 1993. A WWII Veteran, Russ served from 1943 until 1945. He was in the European Theatre of operation in the 113th Mechanized Cavalry and as a truck driver on the Red Ball Express for the 3888 Quartermaster Truck Company. While in the service he traveled to 11 different countries. He had worked at General Motors Chevrolet Plant in Tonawanda as a Quality Analyst and Inspection Supervisor, retiring in 1987 after 47 years. Russ enjoyed spending time with his family and working on his farm. Russ was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of North Ridge, past member of the Wilson VFW and past member of the American Legion. He also was a member of the Chevrolet Retiree Club. Russ enjoyed going to the Newfane Golden Agers and deer hunting. He had lived in Cambria the past 67 years; previously of Wilson.

Russ is survived by his children, William R. (Shirley) Urtel of Lockport, Rosemary (Michael) Bohlman of Ripley, Thomas E. Urtel of Florida, Barbara (Lance) Cronshaw of Newfane, Sharon (Sean) Healy of Wilson and the late Robert J. Urtel. Brother of Harold “Dolly” Urtel of Middleport, Helen Bye of Newfane, Elton “Bob” (Phyllis) Urtel of North Tonawanda, Hazel (Robert) Walker of Olcott and the late Delilah Grzybowski and Lawrence Urtel. Eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and dear friend, Beatrice Zastrow survive him. A grandchild, Amy Raynor, predeceased Russell.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane, NY on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 4169 Church Road, Lockport, NY, at 11 AM. RANSOMVILLE — Delilah (Urtel) Grzybowski, age 85, of Ransomville, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 17, 2010 in the Eastern Niagara Hospital in Newfane, after a brief illness.

Delilah was born June 4, 1925 in Wilson, the eldest daughter of the late Edward and Mabel (Rohring) Urtel. She attended a one room school house on Chestnut Rd. in Wilson where she excelled, especially in spelling, and had won the Buffalo Evening News Spelling Bee. Delilah graduated from Wilson High School in 1942 at age 16, the first in her family to do so. She then attended business school where she earned her comptometer license. Delilah married Max J. Grzybowski on June 24, 1950. Max predeceased her on March 11, 1987. She was employed in the payroll office at Harrison Radiator in the 1950’s until she left to raise her family, and was a Niagara County Election Inspector for 45 years.

Delilah enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening and was heavily involved with local 4H Programs with her daughters in the 60’s and 70’s. She was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge, St. Peter’s Ladies Aide Society, the Wilson Lakeshore Mother’s Club and the Ransomville Rural Retirees. Delilah loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she loved dearly and was so very proud of. She never missed a play, dance recital, concert or graduation ceremony, and attended as many sports events as time would allow.

She is survived by her four daughters, Mary Jo (Kenneth) Higginbotham of Santa Clarita, CA, Janice (James) Sievert and Maxanne (Bill) Rees, both of Wilson, and Gretchen (Leo) Fournier of Ransomville; her grandchildren, Scott and Michelle Higginbotham, Joe and Jackie Sievert, Mercedees, Trey and Quinn Rees, Cooper, Logan and Bailey Fournier; her great-grandchildren, Shaianne Higginbotham, Serena Gelfman and Jaden Higginbotham. She was the beloved sister of Harold Urtel, Russell (Dorothy) Urtel, Helen (William) Bye, Elton "Bob" (Phyllis) Urtel, Hazel (Robert) Walker and the late Lawrence (Ann) Urtel. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Wednesday from 6-8 PM and Thursday from 3-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 22 at 11:00 AM in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge, with the Rev. Alexander Knowles officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Delilah loved flowers, but she also loved helping others. "Bob" Urtel, age 86, of North Tonawanda, September 13, 2013 in Northgate Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness. Bob was very proud of his service to his country. He served in the Navy Air Force for two years following WWII, flying patrol over the Gulf of Mexico. During these years he says he learned more than he ever did in life. Bob contracted multiple sclerosis while still in the Navy in 1946. He retired from General Motors in 1974 after 27 years of service. Bob had been an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Tonawanda Sportsman's Club and was an avid outdoorsman. He was also a member of the MS Society and the American Legion Post #1451. OLCOTT — Hazel U. (Urtel) Walker of Olcott, entered into rest on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Buffalo General Hospital. Born in Ransomville, she was the daughter of Edward L. and Mabel I. (Rohring) Urtel.

Hazel graduated from Wilson High School. She married Robert Walker on April 12, 1952 at St. Peters Lutheran Church. Owner of Flora Hatch, an elegant apparel store which operated in both Lockport and Williamsville for over 50 years, Hazel brought her sense of style and fashion to her many loyal customers. Hazel was a former member of Zonta, DLBA, Habitat for Humanity, Concordia Lutheran Church and Lockport Town and Country Club. Hazel enjoyed spending time golfing, (hole in one at Lockport Country Club), extensive travel, entertaining, gardening, skiing and boating.

Hazel is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert; a son, James Walker; daughters, Jayne (Doug) Lloyd and Jody Siddall; grandsons, Barrett Lloyd and Parker Siddall. Hazel was predeceased by her granddaughter, Paige Siddall; sister to Elton Urtel, Dolly Urtel, Helen Bye and the late Russell Urtel, Delilah Grzybowski and Lawrence Urtel. Hazel is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

She was a 1941 graduate of Wilson High School and married Raymond K. Fredericks November 28, 1942 he predeceases her September 10, 1991. Janeta retired from Pfeiffers in 1988 and worked for many years at Kenzel Toys traveling with her son to tractor shows. A life long member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in North Ridge she was also a member of the Wilson Fire Company #1 ladies Auxiliary and then a founding member of the South Wilson Ladies Auxiliary and president along with other offices. Janeta was also a member of the Wilson Historical Society and loved gardening yard work scrap booking traveling spending time with her family and pets. Surviving is her daughter Randa L. Fredericks; son Kenneth R. (Hazel) Fredericks; sister Vivian J. (late Ralph) Austin all of Wilson. Also survived by several cousins. Private Services will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery. Born June 29, 1933 in Wilson she was a daughter of Glenn and Elise Rohring, sister of Janeta Fredericks who predeceased October of 2015. Married Ralph Austin August of 1954 he passed April of 2009. Viv graduated Wilson Central High School worked at the Wilson Bank Truesdell Hardware and Calkins Lumber in Sanborn with retirement as office manager and bookkeeper. She enjoyed traveling all over the US Canada and England. Surviving is a niece Randa Fredericks and nephew Kenneth (Hazel) Fredericks. Wesley W. “Sonny” Rohring, age 79, of Wilson entered into rest on Monday, August 2, 2021, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Wesley was born May 10, 1942, in Wilson, NY. He is the son of the late Wesley R. and the late Elsie (Zastrow) Rohring. Sonny was a graduate of Wilson H.S class of 1960. He married the late Carol Cecala on January 27, 1978. Sonny served in the U.S Army from 1961 to 1964. He was employed by the Operating Engineers Local # 463, also Hasley Construction. Sonny enjoyed building houses, construction and helping others. Surviving are his children, Samantha (Bill) Kennedy, Tamara Rohring and Susan (Eric) Hyjek; his siblings, Yvonne Gruper, Robert Rohring and Sally Brown; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Sonny is predeceased by three siblings, Nelson Rohring, Dolores Allgeier and James Rohring.
