Frank E. Stahl Jr., well known resident of Tonawanda,
died suddenly last night at his home, 39 Hill place. He had
been in poor health.
Mr, Stahl attained prominence
in the industrial field as works
manager, formerly plant manager
for the Columbus-McKmnon
Chain company, with factories
in Tonawanda, Columbus, 0„ St.
Catherines, Ont„ and South Africa.
He became associated with the
company 25 years ago at the local
factory. The greater part of the
time he was employed by the company
he held responsible cositions,
Mr, Stahl became conspicuous as
an inventor of patents that helped
to place the Columbus McKinnon
Chain company in the front rank
of producers of all kinds of chains.
When the company decided to
locate a plant in South Africa
in 1935, Mr. Stahl took charge and
travelled to the dark continent by
plane and steamship on several occasions.
It was at the opening of operations
in South Africa that Mr.
Stahl, who had been appointed a
member of the Tonawanda Board
of Education by Mayor Christ S.
Warren in May of 1934, found it
necessary to resign. Attorney
Clark B. Bassett was appointed to
succeed him.
Mr, Stahl was a member of
Levant Lodge, F. & A. M., Buff
alo, the Eldredge Bicycle club and
the American Society, Mechanical
Engineers.
Born in the town of Amherst,
Mr. Stahl came to Tonawanda in
his early manhood and had resided
here since. He leaves a wife, Lily;
a son, Harold; a daughter, Mrs.
Edward Smith; parents, Mr, and
Mrs. Frank E. Stahl, Sr., all of the
Tonawandas; two sisters, Mrs. Edwin
Wolf, Buffalo, and Mrs.Fred
Luchterhand, Getzville, and four
brothers, Reuben and Otto, Tonawanda
and Elmer and Allen, Getzville.
Services will be held Wednesday
afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the
Hllliard Funeral Home, 147 Delaware
street. The Rev. Theodore
Mayer will officiate.

Impressive services were conducted
at 3:30 o'clock yesterday
afternoon for Frank E. Stahl, Jr.,
39 Hill place, by the Rev. Theodore
Lehman of Kenmore, substituting
for the Rev, Theodore Mayer,
who was taken ill suddenly Tuesday
night. The funeral was conducted
at the Hilliard Funeral
Home, 147 Delaware street, and
WMI largely attended.
Burial was in Acacia Park, and
the following were the active bearers:
Donald Brisben, Albert
Ceatsworth, John Oswald, A. L.
McKinnon and Christ Metiloff,
Honorary bearers, numbering nearly
100, included officials of the
Columbus McKinnon Chain company
and other close business associates
and Intimate friends.
The company's plant in Tonawanda
closed to permit the employes
to attend the services.
Erie County Medical Examiner,
Charlea E, Long has issued a certificate
of death from carbon monoxide
poisoning due to artificial
gas in the death of Mr, Stahl.
Dr. Long issued the certificate after
a semple of the victim's blood
had bean analyzed

Reuben W. Stahl, 86, of
Tonawanda, founder of Stahl
Moving and Storage Co., died
yesterday in DeGraff Memorial
Hospital.
The Tonawanda Fire
Department first aid squad was
called at 3:50 a.m. yesterday to
his home where he was stricken.
He was given first aid and taken
to the hospital, where he was
pronounced dead on arrival.
A native of Getzville, Mr.
Stahl lived in Tonawanda for the
past 63 years.
He founded the trucking firm
on Young Street, Tonawanda, in
1922, and was active in the
business until 1946, when he
turned it over to his sons. '
The business, now located in
North Tonawanda, is an agent
for Wheaton Van Lines Inc. and
operates in every state including
Hawaii and Alaska.
Mr. Stahl is survived by his
wife, Anna H. Luchterhand
S t a h l ; three sons, two
daughters, two sisters, two
brothers, eight grandchildren
and nine great-grandchildren.

Beloved wife of Timothy H. Turner; dearest mother of Amber Turner; devoted grandmother of Timothy J.
