Tonawanda, Monday, July
5, 1982 at Millard Fillmore
Hospital, Buffalo, after a
brief illness. A native of
Tonawanda she was the
sister of the late Evelyn
Voisinet, Ernest Vigrass
and Arthur Vigrass. Mrs.
Bacon was a member of St.
Francis of Assisi Church,
the Altar Society, Women's
Auxiliary to DeGraff Memorial
Hospital and the
Historical Society of the
Tonawandas.
She is survived by her
husband, George A. Bacon;
three daughters, Mrs.
Danny (Margaret) Asbury
of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida,
Mrs. Duane (Bernice)
Townsend of Tonawanda
and Mrs. Wendall M.
(Veronica) Wilbar of
Manchester, N.H.; two
sons, George A. (Lois)
Bacon, Jr. and John W.
(Patricia) Bacon, both of
Tonawanda; three sisters,
Mrs. Alice Ekins, Mrs.
Olive Horan and Mrs.
W a l l a c e ( E m m a)
Jaenecke, all of Tona.; two
brothers, Wilbur (Dorothy)
Vigrass, Tona. and Robert
(Dorothy) Vigrass of
Newfane; fourteen grandchildren;
two great grandchildren

by a Mass of Christian
Burial at St. Francis of
Assisi Church at 10 o'clock.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet

February 6, 2014 Bernice Anne Townsend Anonymous The Tonawanda News The Tonawanda News Thu Feb 06, 2014, 02:30 PM EST TONAWANDA - Bernice Anne (Bacon) Townsend, 88, of Tonawanda, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Born in Tonawanda, NY on August 29, 1925, she was the daughter of the late George and Beatrice Bacon. She was a graduate of St. Francis of Assisi School and Mount St. Mary Academy and was a lifelong member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. She was active in the Lioness Club of the Tonawanda's, DeGraff Hospital Auxiliary and the Riviera Theatre, where she volunteered for many years and served on the Board of Directors. She was married on September 1, 1945 to Duane A Townsend, Sr., who passed away in September 1994. Loving mother of Nancy (Charles Bachman) and Duane Jr. (Christine); beloved grandmother of Victoria Rowley (Jason), Kevin and Amanda Townsend; sister of John W. Bacon, Veronica Wilbar and a late Margaret Asbury and George Bacon, Jr. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and her dear friends, Joan Miller and Elmer Nilts. The family will be present at the Hillard Creasey Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Francis of Assisi Chapel, 71 Adam St., Tonawanda at 10:00 AM on Monday. Please assemble at church. BACON - John W., Sr. “Jack” Age 83 of the City of Tonawanda, February 8, 2021. He is survived by his long time loving sweatheart Susanne (nee Miller) Tranter, father of John W. (Laurie) Bacon, Jr., Jill (Bruce) Spira and Joseph N. (Robin) Bacon, grandfather of Jaelle, Nicholas G. and Pearl Bacon and great-grandfather of Raelyn Bacon, son of the late George A. Sr. and Beatrice (nee Vigrass) Bacon, brother of Veronica (late Wendell) Wilbar and the late Margaret (late Daniel) Asbury, Bernice (late Duane) Townsend and George (late Lois) Bacon, Jr. Also many nieces and nephews. Jack was a 1955 graduate of Tonawanda High School and was a US Marine Corps Veteran serving on the USS Saratoga and on the USS Intrepid. Jack was a talented cabinet maker who built organs and boats in his career and his carpentry was evident in reconstructing his home. His career also included working as Maintenance Superintendent at the Tonawanda Housing Authority retiring in 2000. Jack was also a prominent musician who began playing drums at a young age. He was part of the WNY music scene and a bandleader, founding the Morgan Street Stompers Dixieland Band. He and his band played music at all sorts of venues for friends and followers. Jack was a member of Tonawandas’ Post 264 American Legion National Championship Band since the 1960’s and was a Charter member of the Clown Band. He was also a member of the Grandfather’s Band, Cheektowaga Senior Citizens Band, Queen City Jazz Society and the American Federation of Musicians Local 209. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 12th at 10 AM in St. Francis of Assisi RC Church, 150 Broad Street in Tonawanda. Burial will be in Whitehaven Cemetery, Grand Island immediate following the Funeral Mass. Please be mindful that face coverings and social distancing will be required.
