    Christopher Ammon died last Sunday
    at the home of his son, George Ammon,
    in West Leyden. The deceased was born
    in Germany 69 years ago, but had re
    sided in West Leyden the past 85 years,
    where he was engaged in farming . Two
    sons survive, George Ammon, of West
    Leyden, and Henry Ammon, of Lee
    Center, and three daughters; Mrs. Charles
    Burg, of Vernon Center; Mrs. Henry
    Schmoker, of West Leyden, and Mrs
    Philip Shankenbury, of Rome.

    of the death of her brother, Henry
    Ammon, Washington, Tuesday at
    West Point in the home ot his
    daughter, Mrs. Marlon Buck.
    Hs was born in Weat Leyden in
    1864 and also resided in Lee Center
    and Taberg. The body will be
    taken to West Leyden for burial.
    He married Miss Mary Beha, West
    Leyden, who died June 22, 1932. He
    went to Washington 20 years ago.
    where he had since lived. While
    living in Taberg he conducted a
    meat market.

    Ethel Ammon. Washington. Mrs.
    Buck. West Point: a sister,. Mrs.
    Shankenbury. Rome, a brother,

    visor. died Saturday. Sept 24. 1959
    at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital
    Center, Utica, after a three weeks
    illness.
    He was born Sept. 17, 1887 in
    West Leyden, son of George and
    Eva Briggs Ammon. He spent his
    entire life in this area.
    He married Loretta Smith Nov.
    11, 1919 at Ava, the Rev. Charles
    Bowman officiating. Mr. Ammon
    has resided at the familiy farm at
    West Leyden since 1928.
    Mr Ammon was active in the Democratic Party and served as
    supervisor for the Town of Lewis
    eight years and peace justice and
    assessor many years. He was a
    member of the West Leyden Cen-
    tral School Board several terms.
    He also operated a barber shop at
    the Schmoker store barn.
    He was a member of the Reform-
    ed Church and its board, the West
    Leyden Fire Deprtment, past mas-
    ter of the West Leyden Grange
    and past president of the West Ley-
    den Producers cooperative.
    Besides his wife, he leaves three
    daughters, Mrs. Walter Zimmer,
    Westernville; Mrs. Percy Freder-
    ick, Boonville; Mrs. Edward Dutch,
    West Leyden; a son, Charles E.
    West Leyden, 30 grandchildren; a
    brother, ???? of Watertown;
    three sisters, Mrs. Mary Canfield,
    and Mrs. Carlton Stockwell, both of
    Watertown, Mrs. Alice Jones at
    home; several nieces and nephews.
    The funeral was at 7 Wednesday
    from the Trainor Funeral Home,
    183 Schuyler St.,, Boonville, the
    Rev. Irving F. Beal, pastor of the
    Boonville Presbyterian Church, of-
    ficiating. Burial was in West Leyden
    Cemetery.

    H. Howard Ammon, 69, a
    retired linotype operator,
    was suddenly stricken with
    a heart attack while operat
    ing a snowblower at his
    home, 180 Ward, street, and
    died, apparently instantly,
    about 1:15 Wednesday afternoon.
    He was pronounced
    dead upon arrival by ambu
    lance at the House of the
    Good Samaritan about 1:35.
    Mr. Ammon had just started

    operating the snow removing
    machine in the driveway
    at the back of the home,
    then turned the blower over
    to a neighbor, Emery J. Len
    no, 178 Ward street, to do
    another errand, but collapsed
    in the snow. He had been afflicted
    with a heart condition.
    Surviving him are a daughter,
    Mrs. Robert J. (Patricia
    I.) Denum, Hialeah, Fla.; a
    grandson, Michael, of Hialeah;
    and three sisters, Mrs.
    Alice K. Jones, Rome, Mrs.
    Freda M. Canfield, 180 Ward
    street, with whom he lived,
    and Mrs. J. Carlton /(Rose I.)
    Stockwell, Sackets Harbor
    road.
    A brother, Eugene Ammon
    of West Leyden, died in a
    Utica hospital Sept. 26, 1959
    at the age of 72.
    Mr. Ammon was born at
    West Leyden Feb. 3, 1898, a
    son of George C. and Eva
    Briggs Ammon. His mother
    died Aug. 26, .1927 and his
    father on Aug. 11, 1938.
    Mr. Ammon spent the
    early part of his life at West
    Leyden, where he attended
    school. He came to Water-
    town as a young man and
    learned the printing trade in
    the shop of his brother-in-
    law, the late H. Harry Can-
    field, who operated a trade
    composition b u s i n e s s at

    Printing House Place, the location
    of the Hungerford-Holbrook
    company.
    He remained in employ of
    his brother-in-Jaw for jmanV;
    years, retiring about 'i960.
    Mr. 'Canfield,:' who retired
    when he^Vsold: "the. toisliiiss
    to Robert J. Briggs i n 1959,
    died Jan. 19, 1960.
    Mr. Ammon married Miss
    Agnes S. Whalen of this city,
    a native of Canada, on April
    3,1929. She died here March
    29, 1962, at the age of 58.

    Mrs. Edna May Kime a
    well-known West Leyden Mer-
    chant, passed away at Rome
    Hospital after a long illness on
    Thursday, September 28.
    She was born at West

    Leyden, the daughter of Henry
    ana1 Anna Ammon Schmoker.
    Her entire life was spent at
    West Leyden. After graduating
    from the West Leyden
    School she attended the Teachers
    Training Class in Boonville.
    Mrs. Kime, a talented
    musician, studied Piano and
    Voice, and taught Piano and
    Voice at her home.
    She assisted her Father in the
    operation of the Schmoker
    General Store, and the Post
    Office located in the Store at
    West Leyden. "After Henry
    Schmoker's death in 1944, she
    continued to operate the store
    until entering the hospital last
    April.
    Mrs. Kime was afflicted with
    Multiple Sclerosis, and was an
    invalid for many years. In
    spite of-her "affliction, she
    carried on the operation of her
    store for many years from a
    wheel chair. She was the West
    Leyden Correspondent for the
    Boonville Herald and the
    Rome Sentinel.
    Mrs. Kime was Church
    organist'and soloist for both
    the West Leyden Reformed
    .and the StA Mary's Churches
    until her health prevented her
    from playing the organ.
    -In recognition" of her many
    years of service to the community
    of West Leyden, the
    residents of the area held an
    Edna Kime Day in May of
    1973. The reception was
    attended by people from far
    and wide at the West Leyden
    Community Fire Hall. The
    Ladies Auxiliary sponsored
    this event. She had chaired
    innumerable drives for charitable
    organizations. Among
    them being the Heart Association.
    In addition tolhe churches,
    she was a life member of
    Salma Chapter O.E.S. of
    Boonville.
    She was united in marriage
    with Stuart T. Kime on June
    15, 1919 at West Leyden. Mr
    Kime died on March 27, 1952.
    Surviving are several cous-
    ins.
    Funeral services were held
    from the Trainor Funeral

    Home in Boonville at 1:30
    p.m. on Sunday October"TT
    The Rev. Lynn Joosten, Pastor
    of the West Leyden Reformed
    Church, officiated.
    Interment was made in West
    Leyden Cemetery. Pallbearers
    were Ralph Rauscher, Douglas
    Rauscher, Francis Hoffert,
    Robert Nellenback, Alex
    Trainor, and' Joseph Stinebrickner

    Zimmer died on May 12,
    1969. Before retiring in
    1990, Mrs. Zimmer was
    the owner of Rome
    Reweavers. She was a
    member of West Leyden
    Dutch Reformed Church.
    Survivors include five
    daughters, Mrs. Gary
    (Joanne) Langley and Mrs.
    Daniel (Bethany)
    Schwerteger, both of
    Floyd, Mrs. Lester (Carol)
    Fallon, Holland Patent,
    Mrs. Dale (Sharon) Grems
    of Steuben, and Mary
    Adams of Parker, Ariz. two
    sons and a daughter in
    law, James LaPlante, West
    Leyden and Joseph and
    Glenda LaPlante, West
    Covina, Calif; 20 grand-
    children; three great
    grandchildren; on esister,
    Mrs. Percy (Shirley)
    Fredericks, Boonville; one
    brother, Charles Ammon,
    West Leyden and many
    nieces and nephews. She
    was predeceased by a
    sister, Bethany Dutch.
    Services were held on
    Wednesday, October 28 at
    1:30 p.m. at the Trainor
    Funeral Home, Boonville.
    Interment was made in St.
    Mary's Cemetery, West
    Leyden. Mrs. Beverly
    Gallney commissioned
    lay minister, officiated.

    cutter at the Acme Market
    in Boonville, died on
    Wednesday, October 26,
    1994 at her home.
    She was born in Ava on
    August 14, 1922, a
    daughter of eugene and
    Loretta Smith Ammon.
    She grew up in West
    Leyden and graduated
    from West Leyden High
    School. She and her sister,
    Marie, operated a beauty
    shop in Boonville for
    several years before she
    was employed at Griffiss
    Air Base in Rome. for
    many years she was
    employed at the Acme
    Grocery market in
    Boonville, in the meat
    department, until the store
    burned in 1970.
    Shirley was united in
    marriage with Percy
    Frederick in January 1946.
    Mrs. Frederick was a
    member of the West
    Leyden Dutch Reformed
    Church, the Harland J.
    Hennessey Post VFW
    Ladies Auxiliary, a life
    member and secretary of
    the Lost Trail Snowmo-
    vile cub, and a life
    member and secretary of
    the Constableville Fish &
    Game Club.
    Besides her husband,
    surviving re one son,
    Ronald C. Frederick,
    Pompano Beach, Fla.; four
    daughters, Mrs. Garrett
    (Phyllis) Roseboom, Boon-
    ville, Lynda Frederick,
    Oriskany, Mrs. Jeanne
    Maya, Richmond, Va. and
    Mrs. James (Vicki)
    VerSchneider, Forestpost;
    six grandchildren, one
    great-granddaughter; and
    one brother, Chrles
    ammon of West Leyden.
    She was predeceased by
    sisters, Bethany (Betty)
    Dutch in 1985 and by
    Marie LaPlante Zimmer in
    1992.
    Grace side funeral
    services were held on
    Saturday, October 29.
    1994 at 1 p.m. at Boonville
    Cemetery. There were no
    calling hours. Arrange-
    ments were entrusted to
    the Trainor Funeral Home,
    Inc., Boonville.
