Earl A. Bomke, 88, of Springfield died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 16, 1913, the son of Carl and Nellie Buhr Bomke. He married Irma E. Haseley in 1942 in Springfield; she preceded him in death in 1999.
Mr. Bomke was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and Illinois Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame. He was a lifetime honorary member of the Earl Bomke Horseshoe Pitchers Club and won the Illinois State Horseshoe Pitchers Championship three times.
Survivors: a son, Ronald Bomke of Springfield; two daughters, Karen E. (husband, Percy) Stephens and Marjorie L. (husband, John) Penick, both of Springfield; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence (wife, Marie) and Ray (wife, Teresa) Bomke, both of Springfield; a sister, Mildred (husband, Clemens) Banaitis of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 10 A.M. Saturday, Bisch Funeral Home West, the Rev. Dr. Michael Strong officiating. Burial: Old Salem Cemetery
