Ferdinand A. Bartel, 55 years old,
died yesterday afternoon at his home.
74 Grant avenue, Tonawanda, after a
lingering illness. Born in Germany, Mr.
Bartel had lived in the Tonawandas
during the past 42 years. He is survived
by two sons, Ervin F. and Carl
A. Bartel of Tonawanda four daughters,
Mrs. Edward Helwig, Mrs. Roy
Hanes and Miss Rose Bartel of Tonatwarfda
and Miss Elsie Bartel of
Rome, N. Y., four grandchildren, two
brothers, Gustav Bartel of North
Tonawanda and William Bartel of
Los Angleles, and two sisters, Mrs.
John Pankow of Buffalo and Mrs.
George Tessmer of North Tonawanda.
The funeral will be held Monday afternoon
at 2:30 o'clock at the late
home. Rev. Andrew Hils officiating.
Burial will be at Frieden's cemetery.

morning after an illness of one day.
The funeral will be held Wednesday

a member of the firm's retirement
club and union, the Columbia Hook &
Ladder Company and the Firemen's
Benevolent Association.
He is survived by his wife. Ruth;
four children and five grandchildren

Lois M. Helwig Wands

ERIE, PA — Lois M. Helwig Wands, age 84, of Erie, PA, formerly of Tonawanda and Fort Myers, FL, died unexpectedly, Monday, December 12, 2011. Born in Tonawanda on July 12, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Marie Bartel and Edward O. Helwig, Sr., and had been a resident of Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. Mrs. Wands was an accomplished musician, organist, choir director, and music teacher, and was a member of numerous musical societies and organizations. She was the sister of the late Winifred (the late Howard H.) Helwig Fischer.

Lois is survived by her beloved son Geoffrey L. (Jill) Wands of Erie, PA; her dear brother, Edward O. (Annette) Helwig, Jr. of Pompton Plains, NJ; her cherished nieces and nephew, Sharon M.H. (Joseph A. Rico) Fischer of Tonawanda, NY, Shirley J. (Larry) Novak of Syracuse, NY, Gail A. Fischer of Wilson, NY, Lyn M. (Richard) Helwig Hoffman of Newport, VT and Keith W. Helwig of Milford, PA; also surviving are three grandnieces,three grandnephews, and many cousins.

Friends may call from 2- 6 PM on Thursday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday at Salem United Church of Christ, Main and Morgan Streets, Tonawanda, followed by burial at Friedens Cemetery in Wheatfield. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to a Church or charity or your one's choice are preferred by the family.
