State St., died this morning in
DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born
in Hungary, Mr. Baumgartner had
lived here since 1906. He is survived
by his wife, Lena, nee Kolb;
three sons, Joseph, Anthony and
Paul, all of the Tonawandas; three
daughters, Mrs. Frances Greaves,
Pomona, Cal.; Mrs. Ray Dinsmore,
Grand Island, Mrs. Walter Bronschidle,
Tonawanda; five grandchildren;
a brother, Anthony, of
Tonawanda; four sisters, Mrs.
Wendel Sitzka, Mrs. Martin Zipp,
Mrs. Fred Keller, Mrs. Michael
Peterman, all of the Tonawandas.
Services will be Saturday at 8:30
a. m. in Hamp Funeral Home, 37
Adam St., 9 a. m. in St. Francis
Church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. John
A. Weismantel will officiate. Burial
will be in Mt. Olivet.

Mrs, Elizabeth Wenske, 81, of
248 Young street, died Saturday
morning in the DeGraff Memorial
hospital after a week's illness.
Born in Austria Hungary, she had
resided in Tonawanda the past 40
years. She was the wife of the
late Frank Wenske, who died five
months ago. She was a member of
the St. Francis church and the Altar
society of the church. Surviv-
ing are two daughters, Mrs. Ed-
ward Balthaser of Buffalo and
Mrs. Henry Frech, Jr., of Tonawanda;
two sons, Casper of Chicago
and Pvt. Frank Wenske of
Fort Macon, N. C; four grandchildren,
four sisters, Mrs. Martin
Zipp, Mrs. Fred Keller, Mrs. Wendel
Zitzka and Mrs. Michael Peterman,
and two brothers, John
and Anthony Baumgartner, all of
Tonawanda. Rites will be held tomorrow
morning at 9:80 from the
home of Mrs. Keller, 54 Simson
street and at 10 o'clock from the
St. Francis church. The Rt. Rev.
Msgr. John a Weismantel will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt.
Olivet.

July 26, 2013 Elizabeth Volansky Anonymous The Tonawanda News The Tonawanda News Fri Jul 26, 2013, 11:15 AM EDT TONAWANDA — Elizabeth "Betty" Anne (nee Baumgartner) Volansky passed on Thursday, July 25, 2013, after a brief and courageous struggle with brain cancer. Betty was the beloved wife of Paul M. Volansky, Sr. for 54 years until his death in 1994. She was the loving and loved mother of Paul M. (Linda Desiderio) Volansky, Jr. and Mary Ellen (Coleen Hisey) Volansky; grandmother of Melissa (Shapleigh Smith) Volansky, Andrew C. (Jennifer Hull) Volansky, Paul M. Volansky III and Michael P. Volansky; and great-grandmother of Elijah and Mia Smith and Tucker and Jaxson Volansky; and aunt to many nieces and nephews . . .we were all her favorites. Betty was preceded in passing by her parents, Anton and Magdalena (nee Hyberger) Baumgartner; four siblings, Lena Papp, Barb Leber, Annie Choboy Berringer and Joseph "Zep" Baumgartner, as well as their spouses; and a nephew, Robert "Bobby" Papp. Betty worked with skill and pride in all she did, whether she was cooking great meals, managing her household, creating the next blanket or framed needlepoint, catching the largest and or the most fish, or working outside the home. Betty fished for 25 years on the Lakes of Kipawa, Canada. After Mom and Dad's retirement they moved to Florida for 18 years. She resumed fishing in her mid-80s alongside her son Paul and his family, returning to the same area of lakes. Betty was an avid card player and played with such enthusiasm that we who knew her in Oregon designed and named a card game after her called "Buffalo Betty". Travel was also on her list of to-dos. One of her favorites was her trip to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris (where Paul Sr. had visited while stationed in France during WWII). This visit to Notre Dame was on her 80th birthday, February 29, 2000. On this trip, she also visited the country of her parents' origin, an area of Hungary now called Romania, and their church. Betty was a life-long member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Tonawanda, and a graduate of their elementary school. Mom's residence at the time of her brief illness was the Kibler Apartments, which had been her high school in the 1930s. We cherish and thank her for the many tangible and intangible gifts that she gave to us, including being an impressive role model all the way through her last illness. Mom, we know you worked hard, played with enthusiasm and struggled with grace. We love and miss you. The family will receive friends from 2-5 PM on Sunday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, in Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon Monday at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda. Friends invited. Inurnment at St. Francis Chapel Columbarium. Please no flowers. She was the wife of the late James C. Butler, who died March 6, 1996; mother of Mary-Elizabeth (Lewis) McCaw of Palm Coast, Florida and Jamie (Richard) Butler-Domis of North Tonawanda; grandmother of Katherine (Michael) Snowney, Meaghan (Joseph) Sowinski and Sarah (Jeffrey) Pascucci; great-grandmother of Kiera Snowney, Madeleine and Tyler Sowinski, and Amelia and Nora Pascucci; and sister of Dorothy Foels and the late Wendell, George and Donald Zitzka, Teresa Mayer, and Anna Gomlovits. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy C. Foels (nee Zitzka), age 99, on February 6th, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Wendell and Barbara (nee Baumgartner) Zitzka. Loving wife of the late Leonerd J. Foel (who died in 1986). Mother of Len (Gwenn) Foels and Fredric Foels. Grandmother of Nicholas and Eric Foels. Dorothy was the last of seven siblings; Theresa (Joseph) Mayer, Barbara (James) Butler, Ann (Harold) Gromlovits, Wendell (Theresa) Zitzka, George (Minnie) Zitzka, and Donald Zitzka. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, especially Jamie (Richard) Domis and MaryBeth (Lew) McCaw. Zipp - Richard Wilson, NY - Richard J. Zipp, 80, who was the Superintendent of Wilson Central Schools for 28 years and a 46-year member of the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department lost his hard fought battle to cancer on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice A (Strassburg) Zipp; his sons, Richard (Laurie), Douglas (Catherine); daughter, Leanne (Matt) Paul and grandchildren, Richard, Sarah (Sandra Walker-Zipp) and Max (Leanne and Matt). Siblings Sylvia Schaad, Patricia Follendorf and Robert Zipp. He was preceded in death by his mother Charlotte and father Joseph. After graduating from Tonawanda H.S. in 1955 he earned an undergraduate and master's degree from Buffalo State College and his SDA certificate from Niagara University. He had a storied career in educational administration as first a teacher in North Tonawanda in the early 60's followed by 32-years at Wilson Central School as principal and Superintendent. Richard impacted the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of young people throughout his leadership in education and is known throughout the Western, NY region as one of the top educators of his time. His professional commitments included: NYS Council of School Superintendents, Erie-Niagara Superintendent Association, Orleans Niagara BOCES, Niagara-Orleans Athletic League Council and President, Section VI Athletic Council, Wilson Central School Booster Club, HealthNow Systems Board of Directors and WNY Blue Cross Shield Board of Directors. A man dedicated to giving of himself, he believed in service and giving back to the community in which you live. A 45-year member of the Wilson Volunteer Fire Company, 42 years as a member of the local Lion's Club, he was a lifetime member of the Wilson Community Library, the Wilson Historical Society, and a member of the St. Peter's North Ridge Lutheran Church. An avid golfer, he was a long time member of the Tara Golf and Country Club in Bradenton, FL. In addition to being a dedicated Bills fan he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. The family will be present Friday, December 22 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 - 12:00 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 at the Hamilton & Clark funeral home at 270 Young Street, Wilson, NY 14172. She was 63. Born in Tonawanda, she graduated from Tonawanda High School in 1968. She received her BA in mathematics from SUNY Albany in 1973. She began a computer programming career in Buffalo at Computer Task Group (CTG) where she advanced to Technical Service Manager, providing help desk services and custom programming to business clients using CTG's Basic Four Minicomputers. In 1996, along with her husband, Marianne founded ProServe NY Corporation, a software firm specializing in enterprise software serving small to mid-sized businesses in Western New York. She retired in 2006 upon selling the company. Marianne was an avid tennis player, a frequent walker on our local bike trails, and an enthusiastic reader. She was well-known for her Scrabble parties through which she raised money for the Literacy Volunteers of America. In recent years, she enjoyed traveling with friends to Europe and Aruba. Jay G. Schneider, age 67, of Sandisfield, MA, died on Thursday, October 25, 2012, after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (nee Peterman) Schneider and was a 1964 graduate of Tonawanda High School. An Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War, he had been employed as a radio tracker for NASA at Cape Kennedy in Florida before becoming ill.
He is survived by his two sisters, Kathleen (Sam) Giargiano and Diane (Mike) Hornblas; two nieces, Amy (Doug) Hornblas Page and Laura Giargiano; and two nephews, Aaron Hornblas and Anthony Giargiano. Also surviving are several great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Monday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday. Friends invited.
