Mrs. Florence Mitchell Bedell,
42 years old. wife of the late
John V. Bedell. ,357 Morgan street,
died Iasl last, night at the DeGraff
Memorial hospital Mrs. Bedell
was born in East Aurora. She
came to Tonawanda with her family
from Grand Island ten years
ago and had resided here since.
She is survived by a daughter.
Mrs. Arthur Zebulske; two sons,
John Ossian and Robert Bedell:
a sister. Mrs. Thomas McConnell
and two brothers. John and William
Mitchell. The funeral will
be held Saturday morning at 8:30
o'clock from the residence and
half an hour later at t h e St. Francis
church. Burial will be in the
White Haven cemetery. Grand Island.

Memorial Hospital, North

Born in Grand Island, she
was the wife of the late George
H. Leverenz and sister of toe
late John V. Bedell.
She was a member and past
high priestess of the Messiah
Shrine No. 18, White Shrine of
Jerusalem, and a member and
past matron of Augustus H.
Crown Chapter No. 619 OES.
Survivors include two
brothers, Ossian W. Bedell of
Grand Island and Robert W.
Bedell, and 17 nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be
conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday
at the Roth Funeral Home with
the Rev. Charles D. Lindholm
officiating. Burial will be in
Whitehaven Cemetery, Grand
Island.
Friends may call from 7 to 9
p.m. today.

Funeral services are scheduled
Wednesday for Johhn V. Bedell. 58, a
Tonawanda restaurant operator who
died yesterday after apparently suffering
a heart attack.
The Tonawanda Fire Departments
first aid squad was called early
yesterday to Mr. Bedell's home at 129
Clinton St. and administered oxygen
to him before he was taken to DeGraff
Memorial Hospital, where he was
pronounced dead on arrival.
Mr. Bedell was president of Bedell's
Candlelight Lounge and Restaurant
Inc., 83 Niagara St. He and his
brother, Ossian. operated the Candlelight
Restaurant and Bedell's Coffee
Shop, 13 Main St. for about 15 years up
until thr.ee years ago when John Bedell
took over the restaurant and Ossian
Bedell assumed control of the coffee
shop operation.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Bedell had
resided in Tonawanda for 50 years. A
1931 graduate of Tonawanda High
School, he managed and owned several
restaurants in Tonawanda before
opening the Main Street coffee shop in
1946.
Mr. Bedell was a member of St.
Francis of Assisi Church, Twin City
Council 413, Knights of Columbus;
National and Western New York
Restaurant Association. Tonawandas
Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club;
Eldredge Club; Elks Lodge 860;
Niagara Hose Company and Tonawanda
Exempt Volunteer Firemen's
Association.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte
Kohl Bedell; a daughter. Mrs
Richard Gunkel of Carson City. Nev.;
two sons. John V. Jr. and Daniel E. of
Tonawanda; a sister, Mrs. George
Leverenz of Wilmington. Del.: another
brother, Robert of Williamsville. and
nine grandchildren.
Prayers will be said at 9 am
Wednesday at John O. Roth Funeral
Home, Morgan and William Streets.
Tonawanda, followed by a Requiem
Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis of
Assisi Church The Rt. Rev. Msgr.
Ralph M. Miller will officiate Burial
will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 3/10/1975

The son of former City of Tonawanda
residents was killed Saturday in an
auto mishap near Binghamton one that
also claimed the life of companion and
injured another.
Robert Bedell Jr.. 19. son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Bedell of 8340 Greiner
Road. Williamsville, was fatally
injured when the car the trio was
riding in went out of control on Route
206 outside of Binghamton and struck
an embankment. All three were
thrown from the auto. State Police
said.
Also killed was Kenneth Doi. 19, of
Sidney.
A third passenger. John Holden. 24,
of Masonvilie was listed in critical
condition at General Hospital,
Binghamton. with a fractured skull.
Authorities said it is not certain who
was driving the car at the time of the
mishap. All three youths were students
at State University College at Cortland
and were returning from Binghamton
when the accident occurred at about 3
a.m.
Robert's father is the brother of
Ossian Bedell, who operates Bedell's
Coffee Shop on Main Street in the City
of Tonawanda.
