    Albert W Bement, of 42 South
    Street, retired prison guard and
    Spanish War veteran, died
    Wednesday at the Bath Veterans
    Facility from a heart ailment ot
    several years standing He had a
    wide acquaintanceship in Spanish-
    American War v e t e r a ns
    circles, having been a past com.
    mander of Maj. Louis B. Lawton
    Camp of this city and attending
    in the capacity of delegate many
    state and national conventions of
    the organisation. He was also
    well known and a favorite among
    members of camps in Central
    New York having been a frequent
    guest and visitor at numerous
    meetings and ceremonials.
    Albert Bement was born in
    Victor, N. Y. After his retirement
    from military service he entered
    the service of New York State as
    a prison guard. He was appointed
    prison guard April 1, 1909, and
    assigned to duty at Clinton
    Prison. In July 1911 he was
    transferred to duty at Great
    Meadow Prison, and returned to
    duty at Dannemora in 1923. He
    came to Auburn Prison August 8,
    1926 and retired, from the service
    September 4, 1937. He had one
    thrilling experience in the prison
    yards, at the time Howard
    Keavin, the Geneva yegg, and
    Jimmy McGrath made their sensational
    escape in which he was
    held up by the fleeing prisoners
    before their dash over the north
    wall in Wall Street.
    Since his retirement Mr. Bement
    had been in more or less
    poor health. He went to Florida
    for his health but found little relief.
    For years he had centered
    his efforts for increased pensions
    for veterans and widows of the
    Spanish-American veterans as
    well as veterans of other wars.
    He was always found ready for
    services in relieving the distress

    of his comrades and families.
    Mr. Bement was a past commander
    of Major Louis B Lawton
    Post, United Spanish
    War Veterans, and member of allied
    organizations, a member of
    Cayuga Post, Veterans of Foreign
    Wars: Cayuga Lodge. 143. Knights
    of Pythias: Auburn Tent of Maccabees
    and the Prison Guards Association.
    He served on committees in
    charge of Memorial Day and other
    patriotic gatherings in Auburn.
    Funeral services will be held at
    2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the
    Langbam Funeral Service in East
    Genesee Street. Friends have been
    Invited to call at the Langham parlors
    from 7 to 9 o'clock Thursday
    evening and from 3 to 5 o'clock Friday
    afternoon and 7 to 9 o'clock
    Friday evening. Burial will be In
    Pine Hill Cemetery, Town of
    Throop. Rev. Frederick S. Arnold,
    rector of St John's Church, will officiate.
    Mr. Bement Is survived by his
    wife. Mrs. Bertha Kenyon Bement;
    a sister. Mrs. Ola Munz of Sea
    Breeze. .N. Y-, and two nieces.

    Lockport St., died in Memorial
    Hospital Sunday (Sept. 14, 1969)
    of an apparent heart attack he
    had suffered at home.
    Born in Niagara Falls, he at
    tended local schools.
    He- was employed at Du Pont
    Co.'s Niagara Works, where he
    was retired as a chemical op
    erator.
    He was a member of the Du
    Pont 25-Year Club, was a World
    War II veteran; a member of
    the American Legion, and a
    member of the Niagara Lodge
    No. 838, Loyal Order of Moose.
    Surviving are his mother,
    Martha Reitz, and a brother,
    Charles Bement, both of this
    city; two sisters, Mrs. Paul
    (Evelyn) Butt, this city, and
    Mrs. Thomas (Alice) Suitor of
    Elmira, N.Y.
    Funeral services will be held
    Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the
    Otto Redanz Funeral Home with
    the Rev. John E. Wickenden, of
    the Church of the Ephiphany,
    officiating. Burial will be in
    Oakwood Cemetery.
    Friends may call at the funeral
    home from 7 to 9 p.m.
    Monday and from 3 to 5 and 7
    to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

    Ronald C. Bement, of North Tonawanda, entered into eternal rest Thursday, March 12th, 2015 at the age of 85, suddenly at Buffalo General Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, Mr. Bement resided in North Tonawanda for the past fifty eight years. Mr Bement was a U.S. Army Veteran where he served in the Korean Conflict and was a member of AmVets Post 264. He was a retired employee of Dupont, Niagara Falls, after thirty years of service. Mr Bement enjoyed traveling with his late wife Geraldine to Myrtle Beach, was an avid car enthusiast, watching car racing, playing slots and spending time with his family.

    Husband of the late Geraldine F. (Nee Hoffman) Bement. Dearest father of Bonnie Kitcho of Georgia, Beckie (Dennis) Maser and Teri Bement both of North Tonawanda. Proud and loving grandfather of Michael Kitcho, Melissa Kitcho, Christopher Kitcho,

    Marc (Stacey) Maser, Sara Maser, Tammy (John) Sarzyniak, Tracie (Jonathan Meredith) Waterson and Tricia (Francis) Steele and fifteen great-grand-children and the late Alex Kitcho; also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

    The family will be present to greet relatives and friends TODAY, SATURDAY, March 14 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the SABER FUNERAL HOME, 549 Oliver St., North Tonawanda (692-0271) where funeral services will be held on MONDAY, March 16 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Karl Haeussler officiating. Interment Acacia Park Cemetery.

    SANBORN — Beverly J. Peete (Bement), age 79, of Sanborn, entered into rest on February 19, 2013, at her residence, while under the care of her loving family and Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on June 24, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Garnet (Parks) Bement. Beverly was a Niagara Falls High School graduate, and for many years she and her husband ran Peete's Marlboro Inn, in Sanborn. One of her greatest enjoyments was spending the quality time she had with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    Survivors include her devoted husband of 60 years, Robert H. Peete. They were united in marriage on December 6, 1952; a daughter, Penny Peete; five grandchildren, Lisa Marie Castro, Matthew, Lori and Steven Burns, and Cody Kowal; and three great-granddaughters, Mykenzie, Olyvia and Isabella.

    Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz), in Wheatfield on Friday from 5-8 PM. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, February 23, at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in the North Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice.
