  1. 1.  BENTON, William Morrow was born about 1923 in New York; died on 26 Aug 1961 in Springfield, Sangamon County, IL.

    Funeral services will be held
    Friday morning in Washington
    D. C. for a former Lockport man
    and his wife killed Saturday night
    in an auto accident near their
    home in Springfield, Ill.
    William Morrow Benton, 38. a

    1941 graduate of Lockport High
    School, and his wife, the former
    Mary Catherine Prudy, also 38. of
    Washington, D. C, are survived
    by three children, Kathy, 15, Barbara,
    14, and William Jr., 11.
    Mr. Barker left Lockport in 1941
    to join the armed forces. After
    the war, he and his wife lived in
    the Lockport and the Barker area
    until they moved to Maryland
    eight years ago. Last February,
    they moved to their Springfield
    home. Mr. Benton is survived also by
    his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh
    M. Benton, now of Barker, and
    three brothers, Robert, of Barker,
    the Rev. Benson, of Eden, Paul,
    of Tonawanda, and John, of Lock-
    port, as well as a sister. Miss
    Sarah Benton of Philadelphia.
    Mrs. Benton is survived by her
    mother, Mrs. Estelle M. Purdy, of
    Washington, brothers Nicholas,
    Ray, and John, and sisters, Dora
    Mae and Shirley.
    Friends may call Thursday af-
    ternoon or evening at the Sim-
    mons Bros. Funeral Home on
    Good Hope Rd. S. E. near Min-
    neapolis Ave., Washington.
    The Friday morning services
    will be held at the St. Francis
    Xavier Church on Pennsylvania
    Ave., Washington. Burial will be in
    Cedar Hill National Cemetery at
    Sitan, Md.

    William married PURDY, Mary Catherine about 29 Jun 1945. Mary (daughter of Estelle M) was born about 1923; died on 26 Aug 1961 in Springfield, Sangamon County, IL. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
