Obituary of Edwin Dunn

Edwin P. Dunn, age 85 of Ransomville, died Friday January 15, 2016 in the Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport after a long illness.


Ed was born June 6, 1930 in Lockport, NY, the son of the late Perry E. and Lillie May (Ryan) Dunn. A veteran of the Korean War, Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to his honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal in 1952 and was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 5 bronze stars.


He was a Millwright/ Carpenter, employed out of Union Local #280 Lockport and Tonawanda for 38 years, retiring in 1992. Ed was a member of American Legion Post #410 and V.F.W. Post #2535, both in Lockport. He played the wash tub in the "Jone's Lonesome Trio Band" for 10 years. He enjoyed carpentry, welding, fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with his family.


On July 23, 1977 he married Gladys (Giertz) Dunn. In addition to Gladys he is survived by his children, Debbie (Frank) Wagner, Donna M. Massaro, Joy Lynn Cummings, Thomas A. (Sherry) Dunn, Brenda J. (James) Glaser, and Gail (Ralph) Friedrich; his step children, Allan (Carrie Anne) Huth, Rita (Matthew) Fritton, and Marvin (Linda) Fry; three sisters, Mary Dietz, Irene and Joyce Moore; three brothers, Ray, Robert, and Bernard Dunn; several grandchildren, one great grandchild, many nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by two step sons, Arnold and Albert Huth; a sister, Alice Mault; and two brothers, Donald and John Dunn.


Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 20, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Geordie Davey, Pastor of the Lewiston Assembly of God, officiating. Bernard retired in 1997 from Harrison Radiator, where he worked for 30 years as a Tube Bender. He enjoyed watching Nascar, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family. He is predeceased by his wife Donna (nee Petrowski) Dunn, who passed away on December 28, 2000.


Bernard is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Peter) Hermann, his grandchildren, Michael (Elizabeth) Hermann, Nicholas Hermann and Christopher (Christina Nubelo) Hermann; great grandfather of Broderick and Gwenevere Hermann. Harold "Pat" Ryan, age 89, of Newfane passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. He was born in Lockport, NY on March 17, 1929 (St. Patrick Day) to the late Percy and Winifred (Bloom) Ryan.

Pat served in the US Army during the Korean War with the 4th Infantry Division achieving the rank of Sergeant. He married Shirley Ann Tucker, May 7, 1955. Pat worked at Harrison Radiator as a welder retiring after 38 years. He was a member of the Town of Newfane Historical Society serving as trustee and past president and involved with the VanHorn Mansion. He was "unofficially" known as the Mayor of Newfane. Pat enjoyed his walks, playing euchre, wood-working, and small engine repair.

Beloved father of Roxanne (Bob) Davis of Lockport, Sherry (Don Yaxley) Tuohey of Medina, Rhonda (Jim Cudahy) Krieger-Gerling of Olcott, Patrick (Lynn) Ryan of Niagara Falls. Ryan passed away on Friday June 16, 2023 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.  Born in Lockport on July 29, 1938 he was the son of the late Percy and Winifred Bloom Ryan.  Don served in the US Army from 9/28/1961 - 9/27/1967.  He worked at Harrison Radiator for 33 Years, retiring in 1996.  He was very active in stock car racing, and was a flag man at Lancaster Speedway for the mini-stocks. He enjoyed woodworking. He greatly enjoyed traveling (acting as the chauffeur on many of the trips).
Don is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith (Reed) Ryan; father of Shawn (Lorrie) Ryan and Kevin (Cheryl) Ryan and grandfather of Shaelin Ryan.  He was the brother of Winifred (late Fay) Heschke, Dawn (late Raymond) Coyle and the late Betty (late Gordon) Crane, Dorothy (late Robert) Vigrass, Harold “Pat” (late Shirley) Ryan, Geraldine (late Ernest) Winters, Audrey (late Jim Glass and late Wayne Burgess) Glass Burgess, Mary (late Whitney “JR”) Caldwell, Charlotte (late Pat) Patrick, Anna (late Robert) Heschke, Florence (Herbert) Kolbe.  Brother in-law of Timothy (Sandy) Reed, Daniel (Linda) Reed and the late David (Mary Lou) Reed.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Gail Marie (Crane) Placido ,of Carlisle, PA, passed away October 21, 2015 due to a long illness. Born in Lockport, NY, February 2, 1954, daughter of the late Gordon and Betty Crane.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Jessica Placido, Trish (Ryan) Stevens of PA, Brandy (Mike Stanhope) Placido, and friend of the late Jim Campbell. Also survived by her siblings, Gary (Alice) Towner, Cheryl (Mark Udell) Crane, Esther Neff, Dennis Crane, all of Lockport, and Debbie (Jim) Grimm of PA, Gary Sinclair of FL; 6 grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Richardson Funeral Home, Enola, PA.

She was born in North Tonawanda on June 24, 1950, the daughter of Dorothy Ryan Vigrass and the late Robert Vigrass Sr. Charlene enjoyed camping and loved her dog and cats. Mother of Samuel Payne and predeceased by 2 infant brothers. Sister of Robert Vigrass Jr. and Richard (Connie) Vigrass. Also survived by nieces and nephews; Molly, Paul, Beth and Lori, Dear friend Linda and many extended family members.
