    August 3, 2024

Edward J Bocek, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on his father’s birthday, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Krulisky) Bocek.
After attending Trott Vocational High School and graduating from LaSalle Senior High School in 1957, Ed proudly served his country in the US Army 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War. He was very proud to have earned his paratrooper wings. He was honorably discharged in 1962.  Ed also graduated from Bryant and Stratton. Ed was a multisport athlete with an extensive range of Athletic talent.  During his high school years he excelled in varsity Football and played at the semi pro level after. He set running records in the US Army. In addition he played baseball, basketball, bowled, and was an avid golfer. Ed achieved 3 hole in one’s in his golf career.
Ed was employed by the Niagara Falls City Police Department for 32 years. He served his community in the Juvenile and Confidential Unit before making rank as a Lieutenant.  He became the Police departments fire arms range instructor. After graduating from the Smith and Wesson Academy he became a highly sought after craftsman making custom gun grips. Ed’s prowess continued with his marksmanship as he holds many awards and several state championships in shooting. To the disbelief of onlookers Ed shot a fly on a target about 50 feet away.  He was a talented carpenter as well remodeling the family home. Ed was a hard worker and in 1989 became a part time New York State Parks Policeman for 5 years until he ultimately retired from both in 1994. Prior to his police work, Ed was employed by Niagara Mohawk for 11 years.
Ed’s humor was as sharp as his marksmanship skills. Anyone that knew him loved him for his sense of humor and quick wit. He was friendly and enjoyed making others laugh, even strangers. Whether he was singing one of his silly songs or cracking a joke you knew when Ed was in the room with his laughter, smile, and larger than life personality.
Ed is survived by his beloved spouse of 64 years Carole (Brzenski) Bocek to whom he fondly referred to her as his P.W.B (Polish War Bride) and himself as “Mr Wonderful.” They were married in 1960 at St Stanislaus Church (Devine Mercy) in Niagara Falls. Ed and Carole enjoyed traveling the country in their RV.   He is also survived by his son Edward (Michele) Bocek, daughter Suzanne (Christopher) Miller, brother Jack (late Beverly) Bocek, and his dog Rudy.
