Nancy A. Bodie, 16, of North Tonawanda,
was fatally injured yesterday
when the car in which she was riding
struck a utility pole in Jeannette, Pa.
Jeannette police said the accident
occurred at 1:14 a.m. on Route 130,
within the Jeannette city limits.
Miss Bodie was pronounced dead on
arrival about three hours later at
Pittsburgh Presbyterian Hospital,
where she was transferred after
emergency treatment at Jeannette
Memorial Hospital.
Police listed the driver of the car as
William J. Tillman, 21, of 12th Street,
Jeannette. A charge of involuntary
manslaughter is pending against him,
police said.
Another passenger in the car was
William I. Tillman, 29, of Sixth Street,
Jeannette. Both Tillmans apparently
escaped serious injury, police said.
According to the accident report
made out by the driver, he swerved his
car to avoid a head-on collision with an
on-coming car and it struck the utility
pole.
Police said the Bodie girl apparently
was sitting between the
driver and other passenger in the front
seat of the car when the accident
occurred.
Miss Bodie, who was a North Tonawanda
High School junior, was the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bodie
of 31 Brundage Ave., North
Tonawanda.
Miss Bodie and some friends had
visited other friends in Greensburg,
Pa., and were on their way to
Pittsburgh, where Miss Bodie was to
have caught a plane to Buffalo, her
father said.
Besides her parents, she is survived
by a sister, Patricia Lyn, and her
grandparents, Mrs. Veronica Bodie
and Mr and Mrs. Stephen Hromouyk,
all of North Tonawanda.
Miss Bodie was a member of St.
Peter's United Church of Christ and
the Tri-Star Triangle, 132.
Triangle services will be conducted
at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Brunner
Funeral Home, 156 Robinson St., North
Tonawanda, and services will be
conducted there at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Acacia Park
