    Notes:

    OBITUARY

Ruth Anna Marie Smith passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence as a result of the Covid 19 Virus.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY on February 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Clara P. (Becker) Loos.
Following her graduation from Niagara Falls High School, Ruth worked all her life as a secretary including 24 years at the YMCA of Niagara.    During this time, she also cared for her elderly father.
Ruth and her family were founding members of the Calvary Lutheran Evangelical Church where for many years she sang in the church choir.    Ruth was also a member of the Niagara Squadronettes and enjoyed bowling on their team. As a lifelong Democrat, Ruth looked forward each election season to working as an Election Inspector and assisted with many local campaigns.
Known to have a green thumb, Ruth had a passion for gardening and was an active Garden Club member.  During the winter months, Ruth enjoyed knitting.   Generations of family members and friends continue to snuggle underneath her warm and cozy blankets on frigid nights and pull out her special Christmas stockings each holiday season.   A hardcore Sabres fan, she rarely missed a game.  Ruth loved to bake and was probably best known for her chocolate chip and multi varieties of Christmas cookies.   For many though, she will be remembered for her gentle, thoughtful and kind manner.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Pamela (Annemarie), son Craig (Kim), grandchildren Melanie (Daniel), Jeremy (Amy), Christopher (Jennifer) and Justin (Kelsey), great-grandchildren Eli, Lisette, Analise, Madelin and Chloe as well as her beloved niece Deborah Scheu, nephews William and Richard Loos and many close Canadian cousins including Bette
    Cronmiller and Rebecca Chan.
She was predeceased by her husband W. James G. Smith, as well as brothers Harold (Billie Jo) and Roy (Margaret) Loos.
The family would like to extend  heartfelt gratitude to so many caregivers over the years including, Doctors John Dyster and Sonjoy Singh and staff, David Slepian, Jill, Beverly, Carrie, Stephanie, PT and OT staff at OLP, staff on 3 W and 1E at OLP including Rachel, Valissa, Jennifer, Alicia, Naquan, Ti and most of all, Peggy, Belinda and Jenevieve.
Due to recent circumstances, a celebration of Ruth’s life and burial at Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery will be held at a later date.
