    March 10. at the home of her
    daughter. Miss Mabel Bowen, of the
    Rapids. She leaves to mourn her
    loss besides her husband, two
    daughters Mrs. Earle Covel, Miss
    Olive Bowen, and one son, Walter
    Bowen; also five grandchildren.

    A former Rapids hotelkeeper,
    Miss Mabel Bowen, 64, was found
    dead Saturday afternoon in the liv-
    ing quarters of the old hotel build-
    ing.
    Sheriff Henry E. Becker said
    friends had failedd to see her about
    the place for two or three days. En-
    tering through a rear door which
    they found unlocke they searched
    and found her body lying across a
    bed.
    Dr. Mabel Carmer, coroner, of
    Newfane, attributed death to na-
    tural causes. She said the woman
    had been dead about two days.
    Miss Bowen spent her youth on
    the Bowen Road, six miles south-
    east of Lockport. She was employed
    at the home of the late Charles E.
    Dickinson of this city when she
    purchased the old Utley Hotel at
    the Rapids in 1909. It contains 22
    rooms and before the days, of the
    automobile was a popular hostelry.
    In recent years it had been closed
    but Miss Bowen continued to live
    in part of the building.
    Surviving are a brother, Walter
    L. Bowen and a sister, Mrs. Earl
    Covel, Riddle Road,, Town of Royal-
    ton.
    Services will be held tomorrow
    afternoon at the Covell home. Bu-
    rial will be in Schafer Cemetery,
    Disinger Road.

    The Gaul Funeral Home Inc., 263
    East Ave. The Rev. James F.
    Burdick and Rev. Byron Berry
    officiated. The bearers were, Clifford
    VanBuren; Gifford Dietz;
    Clifford VanBuren;Albert Moss;
    Edward VanBuren; and Donald
    Roszman. Interment was in Chestnut

    LOCKPORT —
    B. Franklin Covel, age 94, of Lockport, NY, went home to his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, November 10, 2013 in Niagara Hospice Lockport following a brief illness. Franklin was born on April 6, 1919 in Lockport, NY and was the son of the late Earle and Olive (Bowen) Covel.
    Mr. Covel attended Akron High School, and went on to help in the family business, the former Akron Home Bakery Shop, located on Main St. in the village. His real passion in life was being a proud farmer, raising cattle, pigs, sheep and working God's land with great pride. He was still farming right up to a week before his passing. Franklin was a lifetime member of the Rapids Bible Church, and was one of the many generations of the Covel family to be baptized from the church, and also served as a trustee in the church at one time. He and his late wife also attended the church, and also St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville, where she was confirmed. At age 85, Mr. Covel retired from the Town of Royalton as a member of the planning and zoning boards a great accomplishment that he was proud of with the many changes that took place over the five decades of with dedication and integrity. In his spare time, Mr. Covel enjoyed hunting, spending quality time with his family and his many friends. He will be remembered as a passionate man with a kind heart and person of great knowledge and a nice sense of humor.
    Franklin was the husband of the late Florence E. (Witkop) Covel, whom he so dearly loved, and married on June 11, 1941 She passed away on December 25, 2006. He is the loving father of Nancy (late Warren "Clip") Smith and Kevin Covel; proud grandfather of Dawn (Scott) DeLuca; and his pride and joy, his great-granddaughter, Ainsleigh DeLuca; dear brother of Chester (Irene) Covel, Kenneth (Gail) Covel and the late Alson (Elizabeth) Covel; uncle of 13 nieces and nephews. Also survived by many friends.
    Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-8 PM in the CHILDS FUNERAL HOME, LLC 10 Eckerson Ave. Akron, N.Y. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Rapids Bible Church, 7209 Rapids Road, Lockport, NY. Burial will be in Huskey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage memorials in Franklin's memory to the Rapids Bible Church or St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 6379 Wolcottsville Rd., Akron, NY 14001.

    Chester served in the US Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946 in Africa, India, Iraq, Iran, France, Germany and Austria. He also completed 55 years of service to the Akron Lodge No 527 of the Grand Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons of New York and served as Master Mason.

    Obituary of Kenneth Earl Covel

    Kenneth E. Covel went home to be with his savior on, August 30, 2019 in Buffalo General Medical Center.  Born July 19, 1936 in Lockport, he was the son of Earl and Olive (Bowen) Covel.  Kenneth graduated from Akron High School and continued his college education to receive a College Life Underwriters degree.  He served in the U.S. Army as a tank operator from 1955-1957 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.  Kenneth was an Office Manager at MetLife for 25 years and was the Co-owner and founder of Seaway Insurance in Gasport.  He enjoyed animals of all kinds and he was a volunteer with the Niagara County Sheriff Mounted Division.  He even rode during the Buffalo Bill’s Super Bowl era working crowd control.  Kenneth was a member of Rapids Seniors and an active member of the Rapids Bible Church where he drove the church bus for many years.  He also was a Free Mason and a proud 50 Gallon Blood Donor, as well as a Platelet Donor.  Kenneth was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and spent every moment he could with his wife and family. Kenneth was known for his love of hot rods and motorcycles. Most notably, as a member of the greatest generation, his faith in God, generous spirit, service to his country and having never met a stranger, endeared him to every person he encountered.
    Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gail (Wilkerson) Covel; children Todd (Tammy) Covel and Wendy (Alan) Zbytek; grandchildren Christopher Covel, Tyler (Megan) Zbytek, Kelsey Covel, Kaylee (Seth) Goodier, and Shad Zbytek; also many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his beloved brothers, Alson, Franklyn, and Chester Covel. 
    Relatives and friends may call Friday, September 6th from 6-8 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7th at 9 AM in Rapids Bible Church, 7209 Rapids Rd., Lockport.  Interment will be in Huskey Cemetery with military honors.  In Lieu of flowers, Memorials to the Rapids Bible Church would be appreciated by the family.  Visit pruddenandkandt.com.
