    The death of Mrs. Julia Bowen, a
    lifelong resident of the town of
    Somerset, near County Line, occurred
    this morning at eight o'clock at the
    home of her son, Mr. Linus Bowen, of
    Carmon road, aged 83 years.
    Mrs. Bowen was the daughter of
    Josiah and Phoebe Bullen, old pioneer
    settlers who bought Tend from a land
    company and built their home. In
    those days, when going to the mill at
    Lyndonville, Mr. Bullen would have
    So mark the trees with an axe, so as
    to be able to And his way back home.
    Deceased was the mother of ten
    children, aevea of whom are still living:
    one son, Linus Bowen, of Cannon
    road; and six daughters, Mrs. Hattip
    Pierce, of Carman road, Mrs. Elma
    Bruce, of Barker, Mrs. George Cooper,
    of Lyndonville, Mrs. Charles Annis:
    of Barker, Mrs. Adella Mudge, of
    Lockport, and Mrs. Ward Smith, of
    Medina. She is also survived by
    eighteen grandchildren and thirteen
    great grandchildren. Mrs. Hila Poler,
    of this place, is a daughter-in-law of
    the deceased.

    BARKER, March 4-Linus Bowen,
    78, Cannon road farmer, passed
    away Sunday after a brief Illness,
    from erysipelas. He was able to attend
    to his farm work the preceding
    Wednesday. The funeral was
    held this afternoon at the late
    home, with the Rev. Ernest F.
    Scott, pastor of the Somerset and
    County Line Methodist Episcopal
    churches officiating. Burial was at
    West Rldgeway.
    He Is survived by his wife, one
    son, and three daughters, John
    Bowen, Barker; Mrs, Lily Copping,
    Castile; Mrs. Edna. Letts. Medina;
    Mrs. Bessie Corser. western Canada;
    Ave sisters, Mrs. W. D. Smith, Mrs.
    Elma Bruce, Mrs. Hattie Pierce,
    Barker; Mrs. Delia Mudge, Jamestown;
    Mrs. Floyd Cooper, Lyndonville;
    also eleven grandchildren.

    was in Somerset cemetery.
    Born in the town of Somerset,
    where she spent all her life, Mrs.
    Bruce was the daughter of the late
    William Bowen and Julia Bullen.
    Her husband, Charles Bruce, died
    about 35 years ago.
    She is survived by three sisters,
    Mrs.. George Cooper, of Lyndonville,
    Mrs. Ward D. Smith, of Creek road,,
    and Mrs. Deila Mudge, of James-
    town.

    LYNDONVILLE. Jan. 30 - A
    church worker, Mrs. Flora E. Cooper,
    88. died Wednesday at Medina Memorial
    Hospita. where she had been
    ill with pneumonia for a week.
    Born in Somerset July 19. 1859.
    me daughter of William and Helen
    Bullem Bowen, she married George
    H. Cooper May 11. 1881. and resided
    in Yates her entire married life. Mr.
    Cooper died May 26. 1943.
    Mrs. Cooper, who was a member
    of the Lyndonville Presbvterian
    Church and the Worthwhile Class
    of that church, took part in church
    work until three years ago when
    she suffered a broken hip.
    Survivors are two sons, Fred and,
    George of Lyndonvllle; one daugh-'
    ter, Mrs, Henry Welch, Upland, Cal :
    two sisters. Mrs Warren Smith. Bar
    ker and Mrs. Delia Mudge, Lakewood;
    nine grandchildren. and 11
    great-grandchildren. A grandson,
    Harry Cooper, was killed in action
    in Germany in 1944.
    Services will be held Sunday at 2
    o'clock at the Smythe Funeral Home
    with the Rev. Thomas Tighe, pastor
    of the Presbyterian Church, of-
    flciating. Burial will be in Lynhaven
    Cemetery with the grandsons acting
    as bearers.

    the Pallister avenue home for Mrs.
    Adda Bowen Smith, who died at the
    Mesler nursing home, Gasport. Inter-
    ment was in Ridgeway cemetery.
    Born July 21, 1864 in the Town
    of Somerset, the daughter of the late
    William and Julia Bowen, Mrs. Smith
    spent her entire life in this town.
    Thee year ago, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
    celebrated their fifieth wedding an-
    niversary.
    Mrs. Smith was a member of the
    Barker Methodist church, the Wo-
    man's Society of Christian Service,
    Somerset Grange and Niagara County
    Pomona Grange.
    She is survived by her husband,
    Ward D. Smith; two daughters, Miss
    Della Smith, at home, and Mrs.
    Ina Harrold, Geneva; three grand-
    children and one sister, Mrs. Della
    Osberg,, Jamestown.

    A former Rapids hotelkeeper,
    Miss Mabel Bowen, 64, was found
    dead Saturday afternoon in the liv-
    ing quarters of the old hotel build-
    ing.
    Sheriff Henry E. Becker said
    friends had failedd to see her about
    the place for two or three days. En-
    tering through a rear door which
    they found unlocke they searched
    and found her body lying across a
    bed.
    Dr. Mabel Carmer, coroner, of
    Newfane, attributed death to na-
    tural causes. She said the woman
    had been dead about two days.
    Miss Bowen spent her youth on
    the Bowen Road, six miles south-
    east of Lockport. She was employed
    at the home of the late Charles E.
    Dickinson of this city when she
    purchased the old Utley Hotel at
    the Rapids in 1909. It contains 22
    rooms and before the days, of the
    automobile was a popular hostelry.
    In recent years it had been closed
    but Miss Bowen continued to live
    in part of the building.
    Surviving are a brother, Walter
    L. Bowen and a sister, Mrs. Earl
    Covel, Riddle Road,, Town of Royal-
    ton.
    Services will be held tomorrow
    afternoon at the Covell home. Bu-
    rial will be in Schafer Cemetery,
    Disinger Road.
