TONAWANDA-Action was taken
yesterday by the counsel for Mrs.
Martha A. Briggs, 241 Main street,
before the surrogate's court in Buffalo,
to have the woman appointed
administratrix of the estate of her
late husband. Philip F. Briggs, 51,
who was fatally injured July 16
when part qf a load of baled paper
rolled off a truck on him while he
was working in Delaware street.
Mrs. Briggs Is taking steps to
bring action to recover damages for
the death of her husband. Owner
of the truck from which the baled
paper was spilled is Joseph Fingold,
150 Bennett street, Buffalo

Tonawanda, died unexpectedly
Wednesday (Aprill 27, 1966) at
DeGraff Memorial Hospital.
Born in Tonawanda, she had
been a lifelong resident of the
Tonawandas and was a member
of First Methodist Church. Sur-
vivors include two daughters,
Mrs. Brownie (Gladene) Brzo-
zowski of North Tonawanda, and
Mrs. Eugene (Betty) Cox of
Sneads, Fla,; a son, Eugene R.
Dirmyer of Tonawanda; two sis-
ters, Mrs. Albert Newman of
California, and Mrs. Quay Lu-
core of Pennfield, Pa.; 11 grand-
children and 2 great-grandchil
dren. Friends may call at the

Obituary

Shirley Iona Engert of Appleton, NY, wife of William "Bill" Engert entered into rest after a long battle with Parkinson's on Monday November 13, 2023 in the Niagara Hospice House. Shirley was cared for by her beloved husband Bill. She was born in North Tonawanda, NY on May 9, 1944, daughter of the late Edwin Briggs and Catherine "Kate" Ross Briggs.
Shirley was led to the Lord by her dear friend Eunice Blood. She graduated from Houghton College in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible where she also met her soul sister Candy Tallent. Shirley and Bill were married for 56 years. She was a member of the Lockport Alliance Church where she taught Sunday School. Shirley enjoyed quilting and was a talented seamstress and a wonderful homemaker
Mother of Daniel (Marie) Engert, Darcy (Kenneth) Bouchard and Darren (Kelly) Engert. Grandmother of Rachael (Taylor), Kelsie, Daniel, Jacie, Katie, Matthew and Joshua. Great grandmother of Delaney and Mackland. Sister of John Briggs and the late Willard Briggs. Also survived by many cousins.
Family and friends may call at the Rutland-Corwin Funeral Home, Inc. 2670 Main St. Newfane, NY on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10am in the Lockport Alliance Church. Burial will be in West Somerset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Niagara Hospice or Lockport Alliance Church.
