Joy (nee Townsend) Internicola, age 86, of North Tonawanda, died Sunday, September 20, 2015. Born in Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late William and Crescentia (nee Farrell) Townsend. Mrs. Internicola had been an English teacher in the Barker and Lewiston-Porter Central Schools for many years before retiring in 1985. After her retirement, she moved to the Columbus, Ohio area where she became a member of the Ginger Snap Dance Troup and the Sweet Adelines, where she was both a lead singer and a costume designer. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Tonawanda and the Senior Citizens in both Tonawanda and North Tonawanda.

She was the wife of the late Philip G. Internicola, who died in 2009, and mother of the late Susanne R. Internicola of Bradenton, Florida. Joy is survived by her two sons, Philip (Susan) Internicola of East Amherst and Gary (Susan Davenport) Internicola of Leesburg, Virginia; eight grandchildren, David (Sandra) Internicola, Ryan (Susanna) Internicola, Elizabeth (Ross) Nelson, Anthony (Courtney Woods) Internicola, Kathleen (Mike McDonald) Internicola, Marissa (Kenneth) Nelson, Ashley Hammer, and Taylor-Joy Internicola; and a sister, Cheri N. Koepsell of North Tonawanda. Also surviving are many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday, November 14, at St. Francis Chapel, 71 Adam Street, Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. Inurnment at St. Francis Chapel Columbarium. If desired, memorials to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240-0631, or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094-1231, are preferred by the family.
