    Notes:

    Donald M. Liddell, 85, a lifelong resident of the Town of Newfane, passed away October 4th, 2015, at the Newfane Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Donald was born November 20th, 1929, the son of the late Burt J. Liddell and Ferne E. (Miles) Liddell, and was the brother of the late Joyce A. Liddell. He was a 1947 graduate of Newfane High School, and received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Clarkson College of Technology in 1951. After graduation, he began active duty in the U.S. Army, including service in Korea during the conflict there, ending his term of duty as a 1st Lieutenant. In 1953, Donald married Marjorie H. Pascoe, and together they raised four children, their marriage lasting until Mrs. Liddell’s death in 2009. Mr. Liddell worked as a civilian employee of the US Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, for 33 years. During that time he rose to the position of Chief of Engineering, and made important contributions to such projects as the Mt. Morris Dam, the St Lawrence Seaway, and the 1969 dewatering of the American side of Niagara Falls. He was a member of the International Joint Commission, and in 1988 was inducted to the Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees of the Buffalo District. Donald spent his retirement years working as a tour guide and military interpreter at Old Fort Niagara, in Youngstown, NY. Mr. Liddell was a lifelong and devoted member of the Newfane United Methodist Church, where he served for many years as a Sunday school teacher, lay leader and lay preacher. He was a past member of the board of directors of Camp Asbury, and a former Dean of the Methodist Men’s Retreat, which was held there each year. He also was an active member of Newfane Lodge 947, Free and Accepted Masons, receiving their Dedicated Service Award in 2007. Mr. Liddell is survived by four children; Mark (Susan) Liddell of Pendleton, Alan (Kay) Liddell of Clinton, NJ., Cynthia, of Newfane, and Rebecca (Konrad) Huppi, of Herndon, Virginia, four grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME INC. 2670 Main St. Newfane, NY 14108 on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at the Newfane United Methodist Church burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made the Newfane United Methodist Church.
