    Anthony S. Bruno


    Anthony Salvatore Bruno, 77, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Palma (DiPaola) Bruno.

    A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, Anthony attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational High School in June 1950. Mr. Bruno started working at the International Paper Company in the early 1960's and was employed there until its closing. He later worked in quality control at Carborundum Corporation until he retired in the mid 1990's. In his leisure, he enjoyed bowling and was a member of the American Legion Portage Post 1465 and the Embassy Club, both in Niagara Falls.

    During the Korean War he served in the United States Army as a Private First Class from November 17, 1952, until his honorable discharge on December 16, 1954. While serving in the Army, Mr. Bruno was wounded by a mortar round in the Battle of Christmas Hill, and was hospitalized for four months in Japan. He was never presented his Purple Heart Award until many years later as that the military paperwork proving the injury had been lost in a 1973 fire at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. It was through the efforts of a friend, Leo Ciskiewicz, and Rep. Louise Slaughter, who helped cut through the federal red tape, that he finally received his award in the summer of 2009. The family would like to thank Mr. Ciskiewicz and Rep. Slaughter for all of their hard work in helping to honor Anthony.

    Survivors include his two sisters, Angeline (late Sam) Marinello of Niagara Falls, NY and Stella (late Joseph) Maietta of Youngstown, NY; nieces and nephews, Sam Marinello, Joseph Maietta, Lora (Russell) Daniels, Diane Domanico, and Carmen Marinello and many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Anthony was predeceased by his sister, Ann (late Louis) Badiali.

    There is no prior visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 25th at 12 Noon at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, with Military Honors to immediately follow Mass.     Stella M. (Bruno) Maietta, 83 of Youngstown, NY passed away on Sunday April 15, 2018 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence.  Born June 2, 1934 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late, Vincenzo ‘James’ and Palma (DiPaolo) Bruno.
    Stella was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area and attended local schools. On October 8, 1955, she married Joseph F. Maietta, Sr. in Niagara Falls.  Mr. Maietta predeceased her on December 6, 1980.  Stella worked in the Student Center at Niagara University until her retirement.  She was a long time and active member of ISDA Cataract Lodge #240 in Niagara Falls, and was instrumental in organizing activities for the lodge as well as trips for their travel club.  Stella was also a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society and especially enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. 
    Mrs. Maietta is survived by her two children, Joseph F. (fiancé Michelle Braun) Maietta, and Lora (Russell) Daniels, her three grandchildren who she adored, Russell Daniels, Christopher Daniels and Alexis (fiancé Matt DiFrancesco) Maietta, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Angeline (late Sam) Marinello, Ann (late Louis) Badialli and one brother, Anthony Bruno.
    Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday April 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph’s Church, 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls, NY.  EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.     Sam R. Marinello, Jr., 77, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on March 21, 2024 at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Sam R. and Angeline "Angie" (Saccona) Marinello.
    Sam was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School.  He was employed in Maintenance for the City of Niagara Falls for over 20 years until his retirement.  A fitness enthusiast, Sam enjoyed working out at the Niagara Falls YMCA and the Heart Center at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital and was an avid runner and walker.  He was a diehard fan of the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, and the New York Football Giants.  Sam will be remembered most for his fun-loving nature and kind heartedness.  Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.
    Sam is survived by his brother, Carmen S. (Jennie) Marinello, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Private funeral services and entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY, will be held for Sam’s family.  If desired, memorial offerings may be made to the American Heart Association, https://www.heart.org/.  Arrangements by M.J.
