  1. 1.  KETCH, Hiram was born on 5 Mar 1857 in Cohocton, Steuben County, NY; died on 22 Jul 1940 in Bath, Steuben County, NY.

    Hiram Ketch, died at his farm
    borne at Bath Monday, July 22, at
    the age of 83. His funeral was
    held at his late home Thursday, with
    burial in Nondaga cemetery. The
    Rev. P. E. Greenwalt, protestant
    chaplain at the Veterans Facility,
    conducted the funeral.
    Hiram Ketch was born in Cohocton,
    March 5, 1857, the son of Cyrus
    and Mary VanHousen Ketch.
    He attended the Naples High School
    and after graduation taught for
    some years. He was endowed with
    a remarkable understanding of the
    science of numbers, and retained an
    almost unbelieveable memory of
    dates. In arithmetic he was a prodigy,
    especially in addition and multiplication.
    Mr. Ketch was a member of the
    Wesleyan Methodist church at Wallace.
    In his younger years he was
    a licensed "exhorter" and often conducted
    church services. He was
    married Dec. 11, 1878, to Miss Ada
    Lyke, and two children were born of
    the union, a son, Lewis Ketch, who
    owns the farm in what was formerly
    known as Long well's Lane, north of
    the Veterans' Facility; and a daughter,
    Maude, who became the wife of
    Hibbard Brush, and who died March
    1, 1936. He married for his second
    wife, Jennie Shutts, of Gloversvllle
    who died several years'ago.

    Kanona, Mar. 3- Death, which
    has, visited this village - s o frequently
    of l a t e , has a g a i n c o m e and
    summoned Mrs. Maude Ketch
    -Brush, wife of Hibbard Brush.
    Mrs, Brush had b e e n i n ill h e a l th
    for some time. However, s h e w a s
    thought t o b e improving when s he
    suddenly suffered a,relapse a n d was
    returned to t h e Bath Memorial Hospital,
    where s h e p a s s e d away late
    Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Brush w a s
    45 years of a g e . She w a s a woman
    of s y m p a t h e t i c kind and gers
    erous nature and while not affli-
    ated with any church.she had often
    expressed her f a i t h i n t h e , Chris-
    tion religion. Surviving are her
    h u b a n d , Hibbard Brush, of Ka-
    nona, her father, Hiram Ketch, and
    one brother, Lewis Ketch, b o t h of
    Bath. The funeral service, which
    was held at t h e home of the brother
    Wednesday afternoon, w a s con-
    ducted by the Rev. Mable Johnson,
    pastor of the Kanona M. E.
    Church and the buril was in
    Nondaga Cemetery.

    Maude married BRUSH, Hibbard Nichols on 2 Feb 1916 in Bath, Steuben County, NY. Hibbard (son of BRUSH, Edgar Charles and STRATTEN, Emma) was born on 24 Dec 1894 in Pulteney, Steuben County, NY; died on 26 Jul 2010 in Elmira, Chemung County, NY. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
