    Charles E. Buchanan, 56, an engineer
    with the Buffalo Sewer Authority,
    died yesterday at Mercy Hospital.
    He had been ill with a heart ailment
    for some time. He lived at the home
    of his daughter, Mrs. Harold L. Giles,
    312 Vicksburg Ave., Ken more.
    Mr. Buchanan was born in Buffalo,
    April 8, 1894, and attended Schools
    1 and 3. He had been employed by
    the city for about 20 years. Mr.
    Buchanan was active in Republican
    politics.
    Surviving are his wife, the former
    Margaret Martin; a son, Charles E.
    Buchanan, Jr.; three other daughters,
    Mrs. Francis Hagelberger, Mrs. Fred
    F. Suchan and Mrs. James Wurster;
    a brother, Robert Buchanan, and two
    sisters, Mrs. Mabel Collins and Mrs.
    Edward J. Schneider.
    Plans for the funeral services to
    be held at the J. Milford Jennison
    Funeral Home, 531 South Park Ave.
    are incomplete.

    The Town of Tonawanda recorded its
    third swimming pool death in 16 days
    last night when 2-year-old David M.
    Buchanan, son of Mr and Mrs. Charles
    H. Buchanan, 3000 Eggert Road,
    drowned in the family swimming pool.
    Two brothers, Thomas V., 17. and
    Victor S. Lazzaro Jr., 15, of 19
    Deumant Terrace, were electrocuted
    May 21 while cleaning a pool in their
    backyard.
    Police said the body of the Buchanan
    boy was discovered by his
    father about 7 p.m. floating face down
    in the circular above-ground pool The
    family had just finished eating dinner
    and the boy was left unattended for a
    few minutes.
    Mr. Buchanan pulled the boy from
    the 3-foot deep water and a neighbor.
    Norman H. Scheurich, called police.

    David was taken to Kenmore Mercy
    Hospital where he was pronounced
    dead upon arrival. A certificate of
    death due to accidental drowning has
    been issued. The boy apparently
    climbed to the top of the pool despite
    the presence of other children in the
    yard.
    David is survived by three sisters
    and four brothers ranging in age from
    four months to 13 years. Other
    survivors are his maternal
    grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne
    Fromm, Town of Tonawanda. and
    several aunts and uncles
    Funeral arrangements are
    incomplete at this time and are being
    handled by the Dietrich Funeral Home.
