    Obituary of Genevieve Jakubowski

    Genevieve (Lopacki) Jakubowski, 91, originally of Lewiston, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, August 24, while residing in California. She was the daughter of the late John and Victoria (Kajdasz) Lopacki.


    In 1949 Genevieve married Edwin Jakubowski. They moved to Lewiston in 1955, into the home they built. Her beloved husband passed away in 1999, after they enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage and many wonderful travel adventures together. Genevieve was employed by Moore Business Forms on Buffalo Avenue for more than 15 years, retiring in 1992.


    She is survived by her children, Susan Jakubowski (Bruce Weiner) of San Marino, CA., Ronald Jakubowski of Niagara Falls, and David (Delores) Jakubowski of Lewiston, also left behind are her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, whom she cherished and enjoyed very much. Genevieve is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sophie Lopacki, and sister-in-law Olga Jakubowski.


    Genevieve was loved by all who knew her. Her humble, kind, and gracious ways stayed with her throughout her entire life. She was a woman of so very many talents, but when she took a break from her extended family, she loved vegetable and flower gardening. She was a member of St. Peter church in Lewiston for over 50 years, and was frequently involved with flower plantings, decorating, and cooking for events there. She was also a member of the Niagara Frontier Relic Hunters Association.


    Genevieve was predeceased by her sisters, Stella Ohol, Victoria Wegrzyn, Valeria Dryja and Jenny Lopacki, and brothers, Stephen, Joseph, and John Lopacki. Genevieve also leaves behind special friends Ana Suarez and Michele Drabik.


    Friends are warmly welcomed to call at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC., 319 24th Street, cor of Welch Ave, Niagara Falls on Wednesday August 31st from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, September 1st, at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's RC Church, 600 Center Street, Lewiston. (EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.) Burial will follow in Holy Trinity RC Cemetery, Lewiston. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association Coachella Valley, 69730 Highway 111, Suite 100, Rancho Mirage, CA. 92270.     Robert J. Wegrzyn, Sr., of the Town of Niagara, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in the Hospice Care Unit at Northgate Health Care Facility in North Tonawanda, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY. He was the son of the late Stanley and Victoria (Lopacki) Wegrzyn.

    Robert was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On June 9, 1962 he married Mary E. (Bauman) Wegrzyn in Bloomsburg, PA. Mrs. Wegrzyn predeceased him on August 29, 2014. He was employed as a Purchasing Manager for Carborundum (Unifrax) Corp. in Niagara Falls, NY for 45 years. When he was younger he played fast pitch softball and in 2006 he was inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame for his accomplishments. He was a member and served as a past president of the NW Community Boosters Club. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and especially enjoyed going hunting with his son Bob. He also loved traveling in his motor home with his family. They traveled all over the Northeast. But most of all, Bob (Pop Pop) lived to watch and support his grandchildren participate in sports and other activities.

    Robert is survived by three children Robert J. (Carla) Wegrzyn, Jr. , Mary (Ken) Gonyea both of Wheatfield, NY and Lisa (Mark) Baehre of Clarence, NY; eight grandchildren Meghan, Ali, Erin, Olivia, Michael, Delaney, Lexi and Robert; one sister Jean (Harvey) Wegrzyn; one brother-in-law Daniel Bauman and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister Judith Janik and one brother Stanley (Dorothy) Wegrzyn.

    Visitation will be on Saturday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 9th at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul at St. Leo’s Church, 2748 Military Road with Rev. Jeff Nowak officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorial donations may be made to the Northgate Health Care Facility Activities Department or Niagara Hospice.
