    SANBORN —
    Dorothy (nee Swendsen) Moreland, 84, of Sanborn, NY, went on angels wings to be with her late husband on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born on December 14, 1928 in Narrowsburg, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Viola (Skinner) Swendsen.
    Mrs. Moreland came to Niagara Falls, NY as a child with her family and attended local schools. On October 5, 1946, Dorothy married James Moreland, Sr. in Niagara Falls, NY. He predeceased her on March 8, 2008. For fifteen years, she was employed by the General Motors Corporation, until her retirement in 1981. In 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Moreland moved to Sanborn, NY, where she resided until her passing. Dorothy was very loving and always looked after her family, which was the most important aspect of her life. She cherished her time on her sun porch with loved ones. Mrs. Moreland enjoyed crocheting and quilting blankets, in which many were donated to Niagara Hospice as well as collecting angels. Dorothy also enjoyed riding motorcycle with her late husband and traveling with the Ismailia Shrine Motor Corp. The Moreland family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Niagara Hospice who all are so very loving and treated Mom like their own family.
    Mrs. Moreland is survived by three children, Jacklin (Gary) Wendt of Alabama, James (Shirley) Moreland, Jr. of Pendleton, NY and Brenda (Patrick Khoury) Lands of Sanborn, NY and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by five sisters; two brothers; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers.
    There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, July 5th at 12:30 PM in the Chapel of Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, 5871 Military Road, Lewiston, NY, with committal prayers to follow at her gravesite. Bryan G. Meahl, Chaplain with Niagara Hospice, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.     Notes:

    Mae M. Andes (nee Swendsen) age 90, of Lockport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2017. She was born on July 9, 1926 to Ray and Viola (Skinner) Swendsen.  
    Mae was the wife of the late Charles Andes. She is survived by her children, Diane Macecevic, Tony Andes, Rick Andes (Kathy) and Rita Koenig (John); her grandchildren, Darla Quintern (David), Michael Macecevic (Christie), Sarah Koenig and Christopher Koenig; her great- grandchildren, Scott and Kyle Quintern; sisters, Rose Race, Arlene Heisner, Joan Felvus and Adelaide Butler; brothers, Bob Swendsen and Pete (Lester) Swendsen and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her siblings, Cliff Swendsen, Dorothy Moreland, and Melvin Swendsen.   
    Mae was an active member of the Kenan Quilt Guild and enjoyed quilting for many years.  She also enjoyed sewing, ceramics and many ways of being creative.  Over the years she has given freely of her time and talents in many ways: Sunday School Superintendent, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader, Church groups and Senior activities.  Mae spent a lot of time exploring  geneology.  Most importantly, she loved and cared for family.  
    Mae’s family will gather to receive friends on Sunday from 4-8 pm in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, in the Town of Niagara, where a funeral service honoring Mae’s life will be held on Monday, February 27th at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in Acacia Park Cemetery Chapel, North Tonawanda, NY. 
    In lieu of flowers for those who wish to honor Mae in the form of a memorial contribution are asked to consider Niagara Hospice.

    Our beloved Rose Lillian (Swendsen) Ness Race passed away on October 31, 2023, at the very
    young age of 98.
    Rose was born on May 19, 1925, to parents Ray and Viola (Skinner) Swendsen in Narrowsburg,
    NY. On September 14, 1941, Rose married Harry Charles Ness. Rose and Harry went on to have
    two children, Joyce (Victor) Scherer and Ronald (Majorie) Ness. Harry succumbed to Multiple
    Sclerosis in August 1956. Rose went on to marry John Harlan Race in March 1961 and on that
    day Karen (Race) Pelkey joined the family. John Harlan Race passed from an aortic aneurysm in
    2001. Marilyn Corelli and Stanley Kuta, the children of her sister Harriet (Swendsen) Kuta, are
    considered her immediate family.
    Rose enjoyed gardening, canning, and taking photos but most of all her family was her biggest
    pride and joy.
    Rose is predeceased by her beloved siblings. Harriet (Swendsen) Kuta, Clifford Swendsen, Alfred
    Swendsen, Dorothy (Swendsen) Moreland, Clara Swendsen, Robert Swendsen, Melvin
    Swendsen, Vera Swendsen and an unnamed child.
    She is survived by the following siblings Lester Swendsen, Arlene (Swendsen) Heisner, Joan
    (Swendsen) Felvus, Adelaide (Swendsen) Butler and many nieces and nephews.
    Survived by her precious Grandchildren: Rhonda McGee, Tecia (Sean) Counihan, Roselle
    (Douglas) Murrell, and Jonathan (April) Ness; Great Grandchildren: Tyler Lee, Tricia (John)
    Lange, Anthony Krug, Jordan (Marybeth) Krug, Zachary Murrell, Logan Murrell, Neala Ness, and
    Brendan (Sara) Counihan; and Great, Great Grandchildren: Maleeya Dennis, Jordan Krug Jr.,
    James Krug, Eleeyah Lange, Charlotte Counihan, and Alexander Counihan.
    Services will be held at Rutland -Corwin Funeral Home, Inc. in Newfane, NY on Saturday, November
    11, 2023. Viewing will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service
    from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Officiating the service is her great nephew, Garrett Wendt.
    In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of
    Buffalo.

    Robert "Bob" L. Swendsen Sr. 88, of Lockport; entered into rest on September 13th, 2023. Comforted by his loving wife Agnes "Ann" (Summers) of 65 years, at Mount Saint Marys Hospital; in Lewiston.


    Bob was born on June 14th, 1935 in Narrowsburg, New York; to the late Raymond and Viola Swendsen.


    Bob was a veteran of the National Guard, He worked for the Sullivan County Highway Department; Where Bob and Ann also owned and operated Lakeview Diner, He was very involved with the Lions Club, a former volunteer Fireman at Kauneonga Lake; more locally known for his workmanship at Ridgeview Mobile Homes, where he gained the title "Grandpa/Uncle Bob" by many families; from fixing bike chains to sharing a laugh, he touched the lives of so many with his simple acts of kindness.


    Bob enjoyed the outdoors, from hunting to fishing; he enjoyed woodworking and tinkering with cars, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.


    Bob was preceded in death by his son Michael Swendsen, and his siblings Harriet Swendsen, Clifford (Charlotte) Swendsen, Melvin Swendsen, Dorothy (James) Moreland, Mae (Charlie) Andes, and infant siblings Alfred, Clara and Vera Swendsen.


    Bob is survived by his Wife, and Children, Nancy (Ed) Richards, Robert Swendsen Jr, Roxanne (Michael) Stevens, and Sheryl Silva. By his siblings Lester "Pete" (Beatrice) Swendsen, Rose (John) Ness, Joan (James) Felvus, Arlene Heisner, Adelaide (Glenn) Butler, Twenty Grandchildren, Thirty eight Great Grandchildren (with 3 on the way), and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.


    Friends and Family may call on Saturday, September 23rd from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Rutland Corwin Funeral Home (2670 Main Street Newfane,NY) Immediately followed by Funeral Services. Burial will be held at Wrights Corners Cemetery.
