    Avery Glena succumbs
    Avery W. Glena, 60, of 9271 Griswold Road, Akron, (Wolcottsville) died yesterday at Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia, following a long illness. Mr. Glena was born Feb. 12, 1920 in the Town of Royalton the son of Louis and Polly (Clark) Glena. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. He was a life-long resident of the Akron-Wolcottsville area and had been a maintenance man at National Gypsum of Clarence Center for 33 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church of Wolcottsville and of the OCAW Union. Surviving are his wife, Erma; two sons, Wayne of Lockport, Roland of Wolcottsville; two daughters, Mrs. George (Lois) Jago, Wolcottsville, Mrs. Albert (Carolyn) Claude, Lockport; 11 grandchildren; one brother, John Glena of Wolcottsville; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Shapin of Churchville, Mrs. Charles (Anna) Webster of Wolcottsville and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Roy Glena, Lillian Ribbeck and Alice Johnson. Friends may call tonight and Saturday (2-4, 7-9) at the Bates, Wallace and Heath Funeral Home Inc., 38 State St., Middleport, and Sunday (1-2) at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, where funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Glenn W. Richardson will officiate and burial will be in Royalton Mountain Ridge Cemetery. Memorials to St. Michael's Lutheran Church would be appreciated by the family.

    PRINTWolcottsville: Wayne G. Glena, age 74, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 3, 2021. He was born October 30, 1946 in the Town of Royalton to the late Avery and Erma (Wolfe) Glena.

    Wayne was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed spending his retirement watching movies and Westerns with John Wayne. He also spent time traveling and collecting coins.

    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Laura and son, David Carpenter.

    Wayne is survived by his children, Wayne Glena Jr., Stephanie Koch, Gordon (Kim) Glena, Matthew (Claudia) Glena, Christina (Doug) Karlak, 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, siblings, Lois (George) Jago, Roland (Sharon) Glena, Carolyn (Albert) Claude, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home 38 State St. Middleport, NY 14105 on Thursday, October 7th from 3:00-6:00pm only. His graveside service will be held Friday at St. Michaels Cemetery in Wolcottsville at 9:00am.
