Ralph Raymond Miller, 85
Ralph Raymond Miller, 85, of Goodland passed away at 2:35 pm April 26, 2013 in his home in Goodland, IN. He was born to the late Raymond and Cecilia E. Lord Miller, on October 4, 1927 at Goodland, IN. He was a 1945 graduate of Goodland High School, where he was a member of the Goodland Basketball Team. His marriage was to Letha Mae Mathew, the love of his life, on November 25, 1948 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Remington, IN and she survives. Mr. Miller served proudly in the Air Force from 1945 to 1947. He was a Staff/SGT with the 101st Weather Group as a meteorologist. He also played basketball on the Air Force 101st Weather Group, McClellan Field, California. After his discharge he started farming A member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Goodland, he had served as Lector, Usher and on the Parish Council and Cemetery Board for fifteen years, Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Kentland American Legion, and was past president of the South Newton School Board for 8 years, served on the Board for 16 years, and 15 years on the Construction Board. He enjoyed bowling, I.U. Basketball and time spent on their golf cart. He farmed for 57 years, retiring in 2004. Surviving are his loving wife and three daughters: Bonnie Hanson, (husband, Tom), Cambridge, WI, Cheryl Durham, (husband, John), Goodland, IN, Tammy North, (husband, Gary), Bolingbrook, IL, one sister, Velma Benner, (husband, Tom), and two brothers, Eugene Miller, (wife, Marsha), Kentland, and James Miller, (wife, Carol), Logansport, IN. Also surviving re 13 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marie Welsh and Shirley Miller, Visitation will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Goodland, IN on Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 m (CDT) with Rosary at 3:30 pm (CDT). Funeral Mass will be at the church on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 11:00 am (CDT) with the Rev. Robert Bernotas. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Goodland, IN. Memorials may be given in his name to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Goodland, IN. Gerts Funeral Home, Goodland, IN in charge of arrangements.
