WILLIAM CARL SPRENGER
William Carl Sprenger died at his home, 142 Cramer street, North Tonawanda early this morning at the age of 77. Born in Germany, Sprenger lived in the Twin Cities for 63 years. Employed as a lumber inspector, he was a member of St. Matthew's church and the Men's Club of the church. Sprenger is survived by his wife, Bertha, three sons, Benjamin A.. Walter H, and Gerhardt F.; a daughter, Mrs. Harold O. Tussing; five brothers, Ernest, Ferdinand, Herman. Charles, and Richard; and four grandchildren. All the survivors are Twin Cities' residents. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p. m from the home of the deceased Rev Carl F. Frankenstein will officiate Interment will be in St. Matthew's cemetery.

MRS. ANNA HOLLAND
Mrs. Anna Holland, 80, of 36 Hagen avenue, died this morning at the DeGraff Memorial hospital. Born in Germany, she came to America at the age of five, residing in the Tonawandas since. She was a member of the St. Matthew's church. She was the wife of the late Louis Holland. Surviving area daughter Mrs. Theodore Thursam, Tonawanda; three sons, Ernest, Buffalo, Raymond and Alfred, North Tonawanda; eight grandchildren and six brothers,William, Herman, Charles, Ernest, Richard and Ferdinand Sprenger, all of the Tonawandas. Rites will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the late residence. Rev. Carl Frankenstein will officiate. Burial will be in the Salem cemetery.

What the elder Mr. Sprenger
wrote about his philosophical view
of dying is slated to appear in one of
his son's future columns, the sports
columnist told the NEWS.
"He taught me the love of fishing
and hunting and was one of the best
rabbit trackers," he said of his
father.
A machinist by trade, the elder
Mr. Sprenger worked at Buffalo
Pumps and the Wurlitzer Co. plant
in the 1940s. He was a retired
custodian at St. Matthew Lutheran
Church, where he was a member
and Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Sprenger and his late wife,
Mabel Rieck Sprenger, were married
60 years, before her death four
years ago, their son said.
Besides his son, Kenneth of North
Tonawanda, Mr. Sprenger is survived
by sons Allen of Long Island,
and Carlton of Lockport; a brother
Gerhardt Sprenger of North Tonawanda;
11 grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11
a.m. Saturday at the Wattengel
Funeral Home Inc., 307 Oliover St.,
with the Rev. A.W. Moldenhauer
officiating. Burial will be in the St.

GOSHEN, IN — Allen L. Sprenger, age 88, of Goshen, IN, formerly of North Tonawanda, September 24, 2012, at his home. He was born June 3, 1924 in North Tonawanda, NY to Walter and Mabel (Reick) Sprenger. On September 11, 1948, in North Tonawanda, he married Norma L. Freck. She died on December 26, 2008 in Elkhart, IN.

Surviving are two sons, Daniel Sprenger of Tennessee and Mark (Darvene) Sprenger of New Jersey; two daughters, Deborah (Melvin) Camburn of Michigan and Denise (Daniel) Balmer of Indiana. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one brother, Kenneth (Betty) Sprenger of North Tonawanda, NY. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton Sprenger.

Allen was a US Navy veteran serving in WWII. He was a member of the VFW and a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Goshen, IN. Allen enjoyed carving, woodworking and gardening. He was a baker employed by the state of New York. He retired in 1987 and moved to Goshen in 1988.

Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Thursday from 1-3 PM. Kenneth W. Sprenger, age 87, of North Tonawanda, went to be with his Lord on September 25, 2014, after a brief illness.

Ken was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a life-long member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and served as Chairman of its Board of Education and P.T.L. He was retired from the printing division of Marine Midland Bark. Ken wrote a column titled "Outdoors with Ken Sprenger" for 42 years for the Tonawanda News, as well as a column titled "Camera and Comments." He was a member of the N.Y.S. Outdoor Writers Association since 1970, and was a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. He was a co-founder of the Niagara County Fishery Board. He was a former President of the Niagara County Federation of Conservation Club. He started the Niagara County Junior Conservation Group. He was a life-time member of the Tonawanda Sportsman Club and served as a counselor for the junior sportsman; he also wrote and published "The Sportscaster." He served as a special Conservation Deputy for the Niagara County Sheriff's Department.

Ken was the son of the late Walter and Mabel (Reick) Sprenger. Beloved husband of Betty Jane (nee Zastrow) Sprenger for over 63 years. Dear father of Laurie (Charles) Schmidt of Bergholz and Cindy (John) Kosek of Bennington, NY. Grandfather of Wayne Schmidt, Evelyn (Aaron) Arnst, Jeanette Schmidt and Peter (Amy) Kosek; great-grandfather of Layla Schmidt. Brother of the late Allen and Carlton Sprenger. Brother-in-law of Linda Robinson and Judy Zastrow.

Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
