    John P. Meyer “Big Bad John,” age 81, of North Tonawanda, died October 21, 2019 at home after a brief illness. John was a former employee of Remington Rand and Harrison Radiator and was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. John loved wearing cowboy hats and boots, and was a big John Wayne fan. He also loved trucks, doing puzzles, and spending time with family.
    He was the son of the late William and Margaret (Hacker) Meyer. Brother of the late Howard (late Lucille), late Eugene (late Martha), late William, late LeGrand and the late Glen Meyer. Brother-in-law of Joan Meyer of Georgia. Uncle of Todd Meyer, Susan (Parker) Meyer, Jay Meyer, Jon Meyer, Kim Vaughn, Julie McNally, Lori McCotter, and Gretchen Sonego. Great uncle of many great nieces and nephews.
    No prior visitation, family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday at 11:00 AM, from St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1135 Oliver St., in North Tonawanda, interment will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.     The bodies of two Tonawandans who died in action in World War II, will arrive at North Tonawanda tomorrow evening from Schenectady, N.Y. They are: Pfc. Glen W. Meyer, son of William and Margaret Hacker Meyers of 38 East Felton St., and Pfc. Harold H. Liebeck, son of Mrs. Sophie Liebeck of 42 William St. The bodies will arrive at the North Side New York Central depot at 6:07 p. m. and will be met by escorts from Tonawandas Post, 264. American Legion. Pfc. Meyer was mortally wounded while fighting with the 179th Infantry, 45th Division, in France on Sept. 22, 1944. He died the next day. Besides his parents, Pfc. Meyer is survived by five brothers, LeGrand Meyer of Grand Island, Howard Meyer of Lockport and Eugene, William Jr., and John Meyer at home, and a grandfather, John Hacker of North Tonawanda. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the residence and at 2:30 in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Fretthold will officiate and interment will be in Elmlawn. Tonawandas Post 264 will be in charge. Pfc. Liebeck lost his life while fighting on the Normandy beachhead with the 9th Infantry Division June 13, 1944. He was 30 at the time of his death. Before entering the service he was employed by Columbus McKinnon Chain. Besides his mother he is survived by three brothers, Carl, Edward and Henry, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Bush and Mrs. LaVerne May, all of the Tonawandas. Funeral services will be held Saturday or Sunday with Post 264 in charge.

    NORTH TONAWANDA. May 20 - The body of Pfc. Glen W. Meyer, son of William and Margaret Hacker Meyer, of 38 East Felton street, who died on September 23, 1944, the day following wounds received from shrapnel while fighting in France, will arrive in North Tonawanda this evening for reburial. Pfc. Meyer was mortally wounded while fighting with the 178th Infantry, 46th Division, 10 months after entering the service. A native of North Tonawanda, he was 19 when he died. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p-m. from the home and at 2:30 at the St. Mark's Lutheran church, Oliver street, of which he was a member. The Rev. Paul Fretthold will officiate and interment will be in Elmlawn. Tonawandas Post, American Legion, will be in charge. Besides his parents, Pfc. Meyer is survived by five brothers, LeGrand Meyer, of Grand Island, Harold
