NORTH TONAWANDA, Jan. 14- Albert Gandt, 55 years, old. 937 Payne avenue, died Friday morning at his home, following an illness of three days with heart disease. Born in the town of Wheat field, he had lived in North Tonawanda for the past fifteen years. Gandt was a member of the Tonawandas Aerie, No. 1411. F . O. E., the Gratwick Benevolent association and the St. Johnsburg Benevolent association. PFC Strassburg Killed in Action
Private First Class Alton W. Strassburg, of the Ward road, RFD1, Niagara Falls, was reported killed in action in France on August 16, according to a telegram from the U.S. War department received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Strassburg, of the same address. He was inducted into the army on March 19, 1941, and received his infantry training at Fort McClellan, Ala., and later was sent to Camp Shelby, Camp Patrick Henry and Fort Meade. Early in last November he was sent to North Africa and, after two months service there, was transferred to Italy. No word was received from him after leaving Italy. A brother, Wilfred, is serving with the Quartermaster's corps in France, while another brother, Glenn is with the Tank corps at Camp Campbell, Ky. He is also survived by another brother, James, at home, and by four sisters, Genevieve. Marion, Annabelle and Betty Ann, all at home.

Mrs. Minnie E. Beutel, 32, a life-long resident of the town of Wheatfield, died yesterday afternoon at her home, Krueger road and Falls boulevard, following a prolonged illness. She was a member of the St. John’s Evangelical church. Surviving are her husband, Herbert; a son, James; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Proefrock; four brothers, Ernest, Raymond, Eckhardt and Howard, and three sisters, Mrs. Chester Broecker and Mrs. Harold Sitzmann, all of the town of Wheatfield, and Mrs. William Rausch of Buffalo. Rites will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the residence and at 2:30 from the St. John’s church. The Rev. Walter Thiemecke will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s cemetery

Proefrock, Eckhardt W. Proefrock, age 80, of the Town of Wheatfield, Wednesday (January 23, 1991) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a length illness. Mr. Proefrock was an employee of the Carborundum Co. for thirty-five years, member of St. John's Fire Co., the Wheatfield Senior Citizens and St. John Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Proefrock; two sons, Donald (Barbara) Proefrock, both of Wheatfield and a daughter, Mrs. Randall (Jean) Hein of Menomonie, WI; several grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Florence) Proefrock and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Doris) Sitzmann, both of CA; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., North Tonawanda, Thursday 7-9 pm and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from St. John Lutheran Church; he the Rev. GIRL DIES FROM THE NOSE BLEED
Gertrude Ellman, seven years old. daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Herman Ellman of 74 Washington street, died at the DeGraff Memorial hospital yesterday morning after a mysterious illness, lasting since Friday evening. The girl was stricken with a nose bleed. All efforts on the part of physicians to stop the flow of blood failed. Internal hemorrhages developed Saturday evening and the child was removed to the hospital. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the late residence and half an hour later from St. Marks Lutheran church on Washington street. Rev. Paul Fretthold officiating. Interment will be in the Lutheran cemetery at St. Johnsburg.

NORTH TONAWANDA — Warren J. Hildebrandt, age 89, of North Tonawanda, died on Sunday, September 9, 2012. A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late George W. and Elsie R. (Greinert) Hildebrandt. Mr. Hildebrandt retired as Plant Manager for Teledyne Corp. in North Tonawanda. He was a US army veteran of WW II, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Tonawandas' Post 264 American Legion, the Niagara Frontier Country Club in Youngstown, NY, the Kings Way Country Club in Lake Suzy, FL, and the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club in Punta Gorda, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Vera C. (nee Vigrass) Hildebrandt; and his niece, Pati Vacanti.

Betty R. Klein, wife of Judge Lee F. Klein, passed away on February 11, 2017 at the age of 93. She was born in North Tonawanda on February 6, 1924.
Besides her husband she is survived by a son L. Cort (trina) Klein and a daughter, Kris (Douglas) McLean, brother Karl (Gloria) Hildebrandt, sister, Janet (Late Robert) Duckworth and brother in-law Clyde (late Gretchen) Peters. She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy (late John) Rowland and Ruth (late Elmer) Lamb. Also surviving are three step grandchildren, and one great step granddaughter along with several nieces and nephews.
Betty was her husband's court clerk for 18 years, retiring in December 2000. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Shawnee, lifetime member of the Starpoint PTA, Pendleton Historical Society and the New York State Magistrates and Court Clerks Association.

During her free time, she volunteered at the DeGraff Hospital Gift Shop and also for Meals on Wheels. Joanne was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aide. NIAGARA FALLS — Patricia Ann Janis, formerly of 72nd Street, entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 4, 2012 in Schoellkopf Health Care Center. She was 71. Born in Niagara Falls, New York, on July 24, 1940, the daughter of Frederick and Mary E. (Scotland) Gandt.

She attended local schools. In November of 1966, she married Leonard F. Janis, later blessing their marriage with a son, Leonard; and a daughter, Lori. As a young woman, she worked for Goodbody and Company Brokerage Firm as a secretary for several years. Later in life, when her children were older she worked for Dr. Henry Merletti for several years also as a secretary. As time permitted, she enjoyed crocheting, learning to country line dance, but most especially enjoyed her beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include her two children, Leonard F. Janis and Lori A. Fountain, both of Niagara Falls; her grandchildren, Cheyenne Langer, Cody and Faith Fountain; her brothers and sister, Fred Gandt (Grace) of North Carolina, James E. Gandt (late Georgia) and Mary L. Gandt Brockway (Dave), both of Ransomville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents; her husband and love of her life, Leonard F. Janis, she was predeceased by her sister, Diane Gandt Deschamps and her husband, Ed.

Friends may call on Friday after 11 AM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where the Rev. Slawomir Siok SAC will conduct funeral services at 12 Noon. Interment will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
