A local veteran raliroad engineer,
Peter J. Boland,: has retired at the
age of 68. Mr. 'Boland served" 49
years with the Lehigh Valley.railroad
before his retirement July 1.
Starting work in 1904 as.a fire
cleaner, he became a fireman two
years later. In .1911 he was promoted
to engineer. During his 43
years -as engineer, Mr. Boland
worked on different freight and
passenger runs throughout the
country. His^last assignment was
operating a diesel engine in the
Suspension Bridge yards.
Mr. and Mrs. Boland have one,
son, Lawrence P. Boland, this city,
and two daughters, Nfrs. J. J. Grant,
who lives in Cincinnati, 0 and
Mrs. M. S. Mansberry of Cleveland

reports that "after a fishing trip
to Canada and taking in some^good
baseball games, my wife "and I
expect to take a trip to California
in the late fall.,"
They reside at 1880 South avenue.
Mr. Boland is a member of Local
594, Brotherhood of Locomotive
Engineers.

Requiem High Mass for Peter
J. Boland, 69. of 1880 South Ave.,
a railroad engineer for the Lehigh
Valley Railroad who retired last
July after 49 years of service, will
be sung at Sacred Heart Church
at 9:45 a.m. on Friday.
The Mass for Mr. Boland will
follow 9 a.m. funeral services at
the family home. Burial will be in
Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Boland died suddenly at-his
home yesterday afternoon of. a
heart attack.
A native of County Claire, Ireland,
he had lived here for the last
50 years. He was a member of the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers,
Local 594, and of the Niagara
Falls Division of the Ancient Order
of Hibernians.
Last July 1 marked the close
for Mr. Boland of nearly a half
century of railroading. He started
in 1904 as a fire cleaner, became
a fireman two years later and in
1911 was promoted to engineer.
During his 43 years as an engineer,
Mr. Boland worked on several

the country. His last assignment

He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Martha Boland; a son.'Lawrence
P. Boland, Lewiston; two daughters,
Mrs. Joseph A. Grant, Cincinnati;
and Mrs. Francis M. Mansbery
Jr., Cleveland; two sisters,
Mrs* Patrick Kelly, this city, and
Mrs. Winifred Bustace, County
Claire; two brothers, Patrick and
Michael Boland, both of County
Claire.
