NOV. 24, 1936 -- SEPT. 5, 2004 Services for Ruth H. Wray, a former Sanborn resident who ran a restaurant in Sanborn and a ski shop in Lockport for many years, were held today in Hope United Methodist Church, Pekin.
Mrs. Wray, who most recently lived in Saranac Lake and Springhill, Fla., died Sunday in her home in Saranac Lake after a long illness. She was 67.
Born Ruth Pokelwaldt in Niagara Falls, she grew up Sanborn.
She owned Western Restaurant in Sanborn with her husband, Robert E. She opened Snowflake Ski Shop in Lockport in 1968 and ran it until she retired in 1989. The shop is currently operated by her children.
An accomplished downhill skier and a golfer and a world traveler, Mrs. Wray lived in Germany for two years. She spent her winters in Florida, returning to Ellicottville to ski, and her summers in Saranac Lake.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, she is survived by a son, Robert A. of Cambria; three daughters, Bonnie J. Weidert of Sanborn, Terry L. of Springville and Susan R. Thompson of Montara, Calif.; a brother, Neil Pokelwaldt of Ransomville; a sister, Jean Coleman of Wilson; and nine grandchildren.

Ruth H. Wray, of Saranac Lake, NY and Springhill, FL, died Sunday, September 5, 2004, at her home in Saranac Lake.
She was born in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, November 24, 1936, the daughter of Irving and Eleanor [Wendt] Pokelwaldt. Mrs. Wray grew up Sanborn and later along with her husband ran the Western Restaurant in Sanborn for many years. She opened the Snowflake Ski Shop in Lockport in 1968 and operated the store until retiring 1989, the shop is still continues to be run by her children.
Mrs. Wray loved spending time with her family, was an avid downhill skier, golfer and a world traveler, living in Germany for 2 years. She spend her winters in Florida returning to Ellicottville, NY to ski and summered in Saranac Lake.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert E. Wray of Saranac Lake, they where married June 9, 1956, one son Robert A. (Catherine) Wray of the Town of Cambria, NY, three daughters Bonnie J. (George) Weidert of Sanborn, NY, Terry L. Wray of Springville, NY and Susan R. (Chris) Thompson of Montara, CA, one brother Neil Pokelwaldt of Ransomville, NY, one sister Jean Coleman of Wilson, NY, also survived by nine grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Hope United Methodist Church, 2914 Upper Mountain Road, Pekin, Niagara County, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to the Gilda Radner Familial Ovarian Cancer Registry, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Elm & Carlton Streets, Buffalo, Erie County, NY 14263.
