a Lockport hospital after a long
period of failing health. Mr. Wlttkopp
had pneumonia about a year
ago and never fully recovered. He
was born on the Lockport road farm
and was a farmer there until most

Aircraft plant was built. Since then

Locked In a cell at police headquarters
on a disorderly charge last night,
Louis Wittkopp, 21 years old, 1506 Linwood
avenue, .hanged himself with his
belt.. His body was found dangling
from the bars of his cell at 11:30 o'clock
last night by Patrolman Anson Lalone
when the officer made a round of the
cell room on the first floor to look over
the prisoners. Lalone cut. the belt
with his knife, releasing the youth, but
Wittkopp was dead.
Wittkopp had been arested at 5:30
o'clock yesterday afternoon by Patrolman
Raymond Confer. With him was
arrested his father, Albert C. Wittkopp,
52 years old, also of 1506 Llnwood avenue.
Confer said the father and son
had been fighting on the street at
Pierce avenue and Fifteenth street and
had been creating a disturbance. Resi
Residents
of the neighborhood had complained
to police.
When young Wittkopp ended his life
his father occupied the cell next to
his. The elder Wittkopp was asleep
when Lalone discovered his son's body.
Awakened by the comotion that resulted
in the discovery of. his son's
lifeless form hanging from the cell
bars, the father sensed that something
was wrong and asked police if his son
had ended his life. They magnanimously
assured him that he had not and
removed the father to a cell on the
upper floor, detaining him in headquarters
all. night as a precaution for
his own safety.
Coroner W. L. Draper said that young
Wittkopp had been dead only a short
time when discovered by Lalone. The
body was sent to the Dykstra funeral
chapel to be prepared for burial. Besides
his father, young Wittkopp is
survived by a bother, Carl, this city.

Cherry Hill - Doris J. DeVantier, age 84, of Cherry Hill passed away after a short illness on December 5, 2017. She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Roger DeVantier for 62 years. Doris was born in Niagara Falls, NY the first child of the late Clarence and Esther Wittkopp. Doris and Roger moved to Cherry Hill in 1957. After passionately raising four children (some required more effort than others), she decided to return to school and earned her diploma as a licensed practical nurse. She helped numerous patients in the Delaware Valley. She was a charter member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church where she was active and energetic in the life of the church until her death. Doris enjoyed knitting, sewing, ceramics, choir singing, and travel. Most of all she was devoted to her family. Roger and Doris especially cherished the annual vacations at Sea Isle City, NJ. They educated us about God's most incredible gift - our Family. Her amazingly strong character taught us lessons that are being passed down to multiple generations through her children and grandchildren. Her last few years of life were challenged by numerous physical and emotional heartaches. She faced all of them with a positive attitude, grace, and exceptional strength that are a true inspiration to all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband Roger, daughter Joyce White and son Mark DeVantier. Left to cherish her memory include her children Wayne (Pam) DeVantier of Chesapeake, VA, Keith (Betty Jo) DeVantier of Cornelius, NC , daughter in law Vickie DeVantier of Richardson, TX, and son in law Don White of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Born August 18, 1941 in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Geraldine (nee Tremble) Wittkopp and had been a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda. He served in the US Air Force from 1960 until 1964, and was employed at the Durez Division of Oxychem for 30 years, before retiring in 1991. Mr. Wittkopp was a former member of the Double TT Archery Club, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and archer.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sharon (nee Siegfried) Wittkopp of North Tonawanda; a son, Carl R. Wittkopp of North Tonawanda; a daughter, Colleen (Wally) Smolen of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Timothy and Nicholas Wittkopp, and Zachary and Kaleigh Smolen; his father, Raymond Wittkopp; and a sister, Shari (Edward) Garbus of North Tonawanda. Also surviving are a niece, Amy (Jason) Zwolinski, and two nephews, Michael (Kathy) Garbus and Richard Garbus.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday. Friends invited. KRAFT, EDNA L. (nee Wittkopp), age 85 of Niagara Falls, NY and formerly of the City of Tonawanda, December 22, 2021 at her residence under the care of Hospice. Wife of the late William R. Kraft who died in 2001, mother of William (Kathy), Robert, Lori and Linda Kraft, grandmother of Jason Kraft, Ashley Eisenhauer, Arron Kraft and the late Justin Kraft, great grandmother of Tyler, Hayden and Kaylee Kraft, daughter of the late Edward and Alvina Wittkopp, sister of Donald Wittkopp, Kathy (Sam) Marranca, Cindy Conrad and the late Ruth Voss, Edward "Micky" Wittkopp and Karen Clark. Joan A. Thomas, 86, of Medina, passed away peacefully on Thursday May 14, 2020 at Absolut Care in Gasport, surrounded by family. Joan was born on September 16, 1933 and was a daughter of Vernon and Alice Krisher.
She married the love of her life, John "Jack" A. Thomas, on June 18, 1971 who predeceased her on October 18, 2015.
Joan was a graduate of Lyndonville High School and Houghton College. She taught at Lyndonville Central School for 30 plus years.
Joan and Jack loved to travel around in their RV in their younger years and go on cruises with family later in life. In her free time, Joan loved to be outside working in her garden or playing her piano. She was dedicated to her church community and played organ and piano during Sunday services. After retirement, they lived in Florida during the winter months and loved to host family and friends in their Tarpon Springs home. In recent years, Joan looked forward to her Tuesday dinner dates with her granddaughter, Ashley.
Joan is survived by her six children, Dawn (Anthony) Kwiatkowski, David (Bobbi) Huntington, Mark Thomas, Judy (Bill) Wright, Jeffrey (Debbie) Thomas and Jon Thomas; her grandchildren, which include Christopher, Darren, Nicole, Ashley, Nathan, Aaron, Kristen, Suzy, Ryan, Justin, Kayla, Tammy and Jay; her siblings, Suzanne Lorenz, Carol Fulcomer and Dan (Christine) Krisher; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to the love of her life, Jack, she was also predeceased by her parents, Vernon and Alice Krisher; her son, Douglas Huntington; and daughter, Jacquie Atkinson; her siblings, Vernon "Bud" Krisher, Margie Mapes and Diane Palmer.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. Burial will be in the Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville, NY.
