    STRUCK BY CAR, FARMER KILLED NEAR THIS CITY
    Arthur Wendt Suffers Fatal Injuries; Dies Before Hospital Is Reached.
    Hit by an automobile while walking along the Saunders Settlement road at 9:45 p. m. yesterday, Arthur Wendt, farmer, 42 years old, was fatally injured. The automobile was driven by G. M. Krick, 1722 Whitney avenue. Krick told Coroner W. L. Draper, who investigated the accident, that he was driving west and that the glare from headlights of a car approaching in the opposite direction prevented him from seeing Wendt.
    Wendt suffered fractures of the neck; skull, both legs and left arm. He was taken to Memorial hospital, but was dead when he arrived there. Wendt was married and leaves a wife and six children. He had lived practically all his life on the Saunders Settlement road, about midway between this city and Sanborn. Krick was not held after he had made his statement to Coroner Draper and Undersheriff Cowdrick.

    Mrs. Laura Haseley
    PENDLETON - Mrs. Laura Haseley, 81, of 4196 Lockport Rd., died Friday (Feb. 25, 1977) in Buffalo General Hospital after a long illness.
    She was a native of the Town of Lewiston, and resided here for 57 years. She was a member of St. Peter's American Lutheran Church Women.
    She was the wife of the late Louis F. Haseley who died in 1973. She is survived by two sons, Gordon of Lockport and the Rev. Louis C. Haseley of Valley Stream, N.Y.; four daughters, Lydia Haseley of Lockport, Mrs. Ihsan (Mildred) Hijazi of Beirut, Lebanon, Mabel Haseley of Chicago and Mrs. Wayne Ruth) Berger of Washington, D.C., and 16 grandchildren.
    She was the mother of the late Arnold Haseley.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore, with the Rev. Paul F. Wittenberg officiating.
    Burial will be in St Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.
    Friends may call at the Rhoney Funeral Home, Sanborn, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
    Contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church memorial fund or the charity of one's choice.

    Gustav N. Pfohl, 88, of Upper Mountain Road and formerly of Saunders Settlement Road, died Wednesday (April 22, 1998) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. A native of Wheatfield, Pfohl was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Walmore, where he had served on various committees and as president, elder and trustee. He worked for 10 years at the former Sales Book County, now Moore Business Forms, and then for 32 years as a stationary engineer at the Nabisco plant in Niagara Falls until he retired in 1974. Pfohl was a member of the Sanbornites Senior Citizens. His wife, Anna Mueller Pfohl, died in 1984. Survivors include two sons, Lawrence of Sanborn and Walter of Pendleton; a brother, Wallace of Wheatfield; a sister, Erna Stenzel of North Tonawanda; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 6167 Walmore Road, Wheatfield. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    Wallace "Wally" Pfohl, 82, who operated the family farm on Lockport Road and worked on it even after his retirement, died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2000) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness.
    He was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield.
    Pfohl was a member of the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service, Niagara County Farm Bureau, and had served on the Agricultural Districting Advisory Committee. In addition, he was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where he served as trustee and on various project committees.
    He played trumpet with bands, including the Bergholz German Band, with whom he traveled with to Europe, Canada and through the U.S.
    Pfohl enjoyed cars, and often was seen driving his 1948 General Motors Corporation truck around town, as well as in parades.
    His wife, the former Edna Schimschack, died in 1993.
    Survivors include a daughter, Carol Walck; a foster son, Harry Dickenson; a sister, Erna Stenzel of North Tonawanda; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore Road. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery

    Arthur W. Wendt, 86, of Wheatfield, a retired truck driver, died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 2002) in CrestWood Health Care Facility after a lengthy illness.
    He was born in Lewiston and attended St. Peter's Lutheran School.
    Wendt worked as a laborer at Remington Rand from 1938 to 1949, then was a truck driver at Sanborn Milling from 1949 to 1977 and drove trucks for Voss Manufacturing from 1977 to 1990.
    He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where he held various positions, including trustee and elder. He also was a member of the church's Cemetery Committee.
    Wendt was an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Company, serving in an active capacity for 25 years.
    He enjoyed hunting and traveling.
    Survivors include his wife of 64 years, the former A. Elise Goltz; a son, Daniel of North Tonawanda; four daughters, Suzanne Galganski of Alexander, Janet of Amherst, Ruby Mangan of Spencerport and Gail Wurl of Lockport; two brothers, Reinert of St. Augustine, Fla., and Herbert of Avon Park, Fla.; two sisters, Violet Cvetan of Lebanon, Pa., and Minnie DuBois of Niagara Falls; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

    Mrs. Cvetan lived in Lebanon, Pa., for the past five years. Before that, she had lived in Avon Park, Fla., since her husband's retirement.
    Born Violet Wendt in Lewiston, she attended Lutheran schools in Wheatfield and North Tonawanda High School.
    She worked for a short time as a clerk in the Jenss Department Store on Main Street.
    Mrs. Cvetan was an active member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of its St. Mary's Circle, the Forty-Niners Club, the Home Bureau and Meals on Wheels.
    She and her husband of 65 years, Robert, enjoyed camping and traveling.
    Other survivors include a daughter, Adele Kemp of Lebanon; two brothers, Reinert Wendt of St. Augustine, Fla., and Herbert Wendt of Avon Park; a sister, Minnie DuBois of Niagara Falls; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

    NIAGARA FALLS — Minnie L. DuBois (Wendt), age 89, of Niagara Falls, was called to her heavenly home, peacefully, on Thursday, October 20, 2011 to be with our Lord and Savior, at her residence, with her loving family by her bedside and under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on August 12, 1922 to the late Arthur and Minnie (Haseley) Wendt. She was employed at the former International Paper Company in Niagara Falls for several years. Minnie was united in marriage to Walter E. DuBois on July 10, 1943, and they were married 65 years when Walter entered into rest on March 25, 2009. In 1944 she was stricken with polio and with everything she endured, she held on to her strong faith in God and was a loving and devoted wife and mother, raising three children. Minnie was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, in Bergholz, enjoyed making crafts, playing cards and dominoes, cooking, baking and spending time with her family and friends. She was also predeceased by a sister, Violet Cvetan and three brothers, Ervin, Reinert and Arthur Wendt.

    Survivors include her three children, Karen (Frederick) Goltz of Niagara Falls, Robert DuBois of Bergholz and Curtis (Kathy) DuBois of Niagara Falls; a brother, Herbert (Leaner) Wendt of Avon Park, FL; nine grandchildren, Hao, Tim, Heather, Thao, April, Marci, Julie, Bill and Paul; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

    Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road (Bergholz), in Wheatfield, on Saturday from 4-8 PM and Sunday noon- 2 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Philip N.     She was born Feb. 12, 1919, in the Town of Niagara, the daughter of Louis and Laura (Wendt) Haseley. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School.
    Mrs. (sic) Haseley worked for the federal Department of Defense, Niagara Falls, for more than 30 years.     PENDLETON - Former Niagara County Legislator and Town Justice Gordon L. Haseley, a dairy farmer and lifelong Pendleton resident, died Tuesday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. He was 83.
    Mr. Haseley was a self-employed dairy farmer on the family's 200-acre Lockport Road farm until the early 1970s. He also was a life-fire-casualty insurance agent, stock broker, certified state nurseryman and landscaper. He served on the boards of the Dairy Council of Western New York, the Niagara County Milk Producers, the state Fish and Wildlife Management Service and the Sea Grant Lake Ontario advisory council.
    He also was active in local civic affairs. He was founding chairman of the first Town of Pendleton Planning Board, served on the Pendleton Town Board in 1960, and as town justice from the late 1950s until 1970. He was a Niagara County legislator from 1970 to 1976, and a member of the Starpoint School Board for a decade after his legislative service.
    Mr. Haseley was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, where he had served as treasurer, trustee and elder. He was a member of the New York State Magistrates Association, Tonawanda Sportsmans Club, Lions Club, and the Farm Bureau. He was a charter member of the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of NASDAQ and the 4-H.
    "After he got out of dairy farming, he did his stone mason work, but I think he was really [most] proud of being on the Sea Grant board," said his daughter, Holly O'Connor. He helped Sea Grant with development strategies and environmental issues along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence Seaway, O'Connor said. She said her father also enjoyed being a town justice.
    His hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodworking and gardening.
    His first wife, of 19 years, the former Helen Thiele, died in 1968. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, the former Alice R. Widzinski; six children, Peter of Germany, Holly O'Connor of Chicago, Nancy Haseley of Las Vegas, Thaddeus M. Piechalak of Cheektowaga, Paul Piechalak of Buffalo and Gary Piechalak of Lancaster; a brother, Louis of Holiday, Fla.; two sisters, Mildred Hijazi of Carlsbad, Calif., and Ruth Berger of Annapolis, MD.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    Ex-Lockport Man Dies In Coast Crash
    LOCKPORT - A former Lockport man was killed in an automobile accident Sunday (Feb. 14, 1965) while returning to his home in Corvallis, Ore., after a weekend drill with the Air Force Reserve at Portland, Ore. He was Capt. Arnold F. Haseley, 33, an associate professor at Oregon State University, while he was studying for his doctor's degree. He was a graduate of Purdue University, Mr. Haseley attended Lockport High School and graduated from North Tonawanda High School. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Corvallis, and was Sunday school superintendent.

    Rites Set For Victim Of Crash
    NORTH TONAWANDA- Full military honors will be accorded to Capt. Arnold F. Haseley, 33, of Corvallis, Ore., formerly of Lockport Road, Town of Pendleton, who was fatally injured in an auto accident Sunday night near Salem, Ore.
    The family and friend's will gather at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Old Falls Boulevard, for a procession to White Chapel Memorial Park for burial. Rev. Luther Knauff, pastor of St. Martin's Church, will conduct a prayer service.
    Participating in the military rites will be members of the 4621st Support Group, Niagara Falls Air Force Base. Capt. Haseley was a member of the Air Force Reserve in Oregon and was an instructor at Oregon State University.

He was a lifelong member of St Peter’s Lutheran Church where he often served as an usher and helped keep attendance records for both the church and Sunday school. He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran school and was a graduate of the Niagara Wheatfield class of 1977. After graduation, Harry had worked at various local businesses as well as helping on the family farm.Harry loved being a statistician for his Niagara Wheatfield sports teams and stayed in touch with many of the players and coaches. Harry enjoyed attending local sporting events and most Saturdays during the football season you would find him at the NW football field watching his Falcons. Being able to attend these events was made possible with the help of his good friend Brian Hapeman. Harry also enjoyed being a volunteer statistician and scorekeeper for the Lutheran Basketball League for over 45 years, it was his life.Harry often spoke about his love for music, especially German and Polka music. Harry had been a member of the Bergholz German Band and the American Legion Sikora Post Band of North Tonawanda where he played the drums for many years. Harry also took pride in participating in the Western New York Challenger Sports League’s bowling division which he attended for over 10 years.Service will be held on Tuesday (January 24) at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with the Rev.     Leon A. Wendt, age 83 of Wheatfield, NY, was called unexpectedly to his heavenly home on December 2, 2023 at his residence. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on October 12, 1940; son of the late Ervin and Ruth (Broeker) Wendt. A graduate of Starpoint High School, he earned his Bachelor's degree in business, at the University of Buffalo. Leon was employed in management positions by several firms, most notably by Allied Chemical. He went on to form a successful tax preparation and insurance business. Leon was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, in North Tonawanda, enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, was an automotive buff, and a fanatic basketball fan and coached several girls basketball teams. Survivors include two brothers, Roger (Carol) Wendt of North Tonawanda, and Gerald Wendt of Amherst. He was preceded in death by a brother, Noel Wendt.There will be a memorial service scheduled in January 2024, with the date and time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120. Arrangements were with the DuBois Funeral Home, Wheatfield, NY.

    Noel L. Wendt, an engineer and former North Tonawanda resident, died Saturday in his Rochester, MN., home after a long illness. He was 64.
    Born in North Tonawanda, Mr. Wendt graduated from Starpoint High School. He later earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University at Buffalo.
    In the 1960s, Mr. Wendt was an engineer at General Motors in the Town of Tonawanda before working in the aerospace division at Bell Aerospace in Wheatfield in the early 1970s. He later worked as an engineer on NASA's Hovercraft in Texas and then on the Alaska Pipeline in Fairbanks and Anchorage. From 1998 until health problems in 2004, he was a consultant and computer analyst for FedEx in the Buffalo area and in Littleton, Colo.
    In 2004, he moved to Minnesota.
    Mr. Wendt was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda.
    Surviving are his wife of 16 years, the former Kathie Martin; a stepson, John Panek; two stepdaughters, Erica Hanna and Leah Douglass; and three brothers, Roger, Jerry and Leon.
    A memorial service will be at 3 P.M. Tuesday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda.

WHITCOMB, age 85 of Lewiston, NY, formerly of Niagara Falls and Olcott, NY, was called peacefully to her heavenly home on April 28, 2023, while at the Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on May 31, 1937; daughter of the late Reinert and Edith (Wolf) Wendt. she attended Hyde Park School, and was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. "Bunny" as many known her, was employed at the former Bier's Clothing Store, and later worked as a nanny for several families. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, which many of her family will remember her by, with various items that were made over the years. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Whitcomb, Sr. on November 2, 2013. They enjoyed many happy times together dancing, bowling, traveling, playing cards, time spent in Florida, and listening to music. She loved to cook and have the whole family over for dinners and gatherings. "Bunny" did enjoy her sweets, especially the marshmallow peeps and circus peanuts. She was a member of the former St. Paul - Calvary Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, and was also a member of the Eagles and Elks.Survivors include three children, Richard (Cyntha) Whitcomb, Russell Whitcomb, and Debra (Russell) Loverde; four grandchildren, Elena (Christopher) Woods, Crystal (Leon) Blanchard, Jamie (Joseph) Spadolini, and Richard Whitcomb, III. Also preceded in death by a brother, Duane Wendt.A memorial service will take place at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Friday - May 5 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice
