Philip Walck of Walmore Is Dead
Philip Walck, 67 years old, died today at the family home in the Lockport road. Funeral services will be held from the home on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 standard time from St. Peter's Lutheran church, Walmore. The Rev. Edwin (sic) Grabau will officiate. Interment will be in the Walmore cemetery.
Mr. Walck had resided in Walmore all his life and was one of the best known residents of the vicinity. For 19 years he was a trustee of St. Peter's church and for 28 years was treasurer of the Cooperative Fire Insurance company of Bergholtz. He was active in Walmore affairs and his loss will be mourned by a wide circle of friends and relatives. He is survived by six children, Mrs. Herbert Zeckser, Mrs. E. W. Haseley, Mrs. E. WW. (sic) Haseley. Felix, Philip C. and Paul. all of Sanborn.

Julia S. Strassburg, 62 years old, died Saturday at her home on the Ward road, near Sanborn. She was a life-long resident of the town of Wheatfield. Surviving are a sister, Matilda Strassburg, and three brothers, William and John Strassburg, Wheatfield, and Mrs. Walter Strassburg, LaSalle. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock, standard time, at the house and half an hour later from the Holy Ghost church, Bergholz. Rev. John Kuchenbecker of the Holy Ghost church will conduct the service and interment will be at the Holy Ghost cemetery.

SANBORN, June 14 — John A. Strasburg, prominent Ward road farmer died at his home yesterday after a short Illness.

Born In the Town of Wheatfleld July 31. 1877, the son of the late August and Auguste Strasburg. He has resided In the vicinity of Sanborn for 53 years.

Surviving are his wife Auguste Stoelting, five daughters. Mrs. Fred Wermuth. of Rochester; Mrs. Lewis Schworm, of Niagara Falls; Mrs. Elmore Herbst. of Lockport; Mrs. Clinton S. Hermanson and Mrs. Robert Strasburg of Niagara Falls. Leslie Read, both of Sanborn.

Two sons, Burnet Strasburg. at home, a sister Matilda of Sanborn and one brother Walter of Niagara Falls, eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held from the home In the Ward road, Sanborn. Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. with the Rev. Frank N. Taft officiating. Interment will be In Mt. View cemetery Pekln.

Sanborn-Elsie H. Jagow, 76, of 6245 Ward Road, died Sunday (Dec. 26, 1965) in Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital after a month's illness. She was the widow of Albert Jagow who died in 1963.
She was born May 12, 1889, in the town of Wheatfield, daughter of Frank and Augusta Walck Retzlaff. In 1910, she was married and the couple operated a farm at the Ward Road address until her husband's death.
Mrs. Jagow was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore and of the Ladies Aid Society of the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Albert (Gertrude) Pfuhl, Niagara Falls; a son, Herbert Jagow, Sanborn; five grandsons and two great-grandsons. Another daughter, Mildred Jagow, died in August of this year.
Services will be held at the Pike and Jones Funeral Home here at 2 P.M., followed by additional rites at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at 2:30, Donald G. Rehkopf officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will be present at the funeral home from 2 to 5 and 7-9 P.M.
The family said donation to St. Peter's Lutheran Memorial Fund or Lutheran Vespers will be acceptable as tributes.

Hugo Walck, town civic leader, dies
WHEATFIELD - Hugo A. Walck, 88, of 2440 Lockport Road, died unexpectedly today (June 19, 1973) shortly after admission to Memorial Medical Center.
A lifelong resident of Wheatfield, he was born on his father's farm, adjacent to his residence. He was a farmer for over 65 years.
He was a justice of the peace for 20 years, a former director of the Niagara County Farm Bureau, active in the Town of Wheatfield government and a member of the Wheatfield School Board for over 20 years.
He was also a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore, and the Police Chiefs and Judges Association.
Survivors include his wife, Ella L.; two sons, Harold A. Walck, of the Town of Tonawanda and Hugo C. Walck of Sanborn; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Florence) Stoelting and Mrs. Wilmer (Hilda) Wurl, both of Bergholtz; one sister, Mrs. Esther Lang (sic) of Walmore, eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Harvey Walck, and a daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Lydia) Ferchen.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore, with the Rev. Harold L. Baum officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Norman (Eleanor) Moll of Niagara Falls and Mrs. Elwood (Gertrude) Krull of Sanborn; two sons, William and Norbert, both of Sanborn; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

REV A. WALCK IS DEAD
SANBORN - The Rev, Alfred W. Walck Sr., 81, of 2940 Lockport Road, a Lutheran
clergyman for 57 years, died Sunday (Sept. 7, 1969) in Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Sanborn and celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination on Feb. 18, 1962. At that time he said, 'Tm deeply grateful and appreciative to the kindness and mercies of God for giving me the privilege of. serving Him and helping His people. The Rev. Mr. Walck was ordained after studies at the former
Martin Luther College, and Seminary in Buffalo. His first church was in Unionville, Mich., in 1912. In 1916 he went to St. Paul, Minn. for home mission work. He was in the St. Paul area 33 years, serving at Grace Lutheran and Hope Lutheran Churches. In 1949 the Rev. Mr. Walck went to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Webster, N.Y. He was,
there 12 years, retiring in August, 1961. Since that time, he has been interim pastor at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, St. John's Lutheran Church; County Line, Concordia Lutheran Church at Byron Center, Trinity Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, and St. Peters Lutheran Church, Walmore Road. He served at St. Peter's for 14 months, until Sept. 24, 1967. He was president emeritus and past secretary of the Lutheran Orient Mission Society and served on various mission boards. The Rev. Mr. Walck was married to the former Amanda Milleville for 53 years, until her death in 1965. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Donald Wendt of Niagara Falls, Mrs. Walter Winness, of Chambersburg, Pa., and Miss Amanda Walck, a parish worker at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Morris, III. a son, the Rev. W. Walck Jr., of Madang, New Guinea; three brothers,'Rudolph C, William A., and Hubert E. Walck, all of here; a sister, Mrs. John Devantier, of Niagara Falls; and 11 grandchildren. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and -from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Pike and Jones Funeral Home here. The Rev. Mr. Walck will lie in state, from noon until 2 p.m.
Wednesday, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore Road, funeral-services will be

SANBORN - Rudolf C. Walck, 87, of Sanborn, died Sunday (Oct. 23, 1977) in Memorial Medical Center, Niagara Falls, after a brief illness.
He was a native of the Town, of Wheatfield, and resided in the Town of Lewiston most of his life, where he operated a dairy and vegetable farm.
Walck was a court officer for the Niagara County Supreme Court for over 40 years. Prior to retiring in 1975, he was a charter member, former trustee, and elder of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore, having served on various building committees.
He was also a charter member and trustee of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire County, former director of the Niagara County Milk Co-op, and a member of the Niagara County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the Niagara County Judges and Police Association. His wife, Ernestine D. Walck, predeceased him in 1967.
Surviving are two sons, Rudolf Walck Jr. and Leonard, both of Sanborn; one brother, Hubert of Sanborn; one sister, Mrs. John (Agnes). DeVantier of Niagara Falls, and four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was the father of the late Edna Craft.
Funeral services will he held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore, with the Rev. Paul F. Wittenberg officiating. Burial will he in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

Former Weston Avenue resident Agnes A. DeVantier died yesterday (April 28, 1983) at Niagara Falls Memorial Nursing Home. She was 91. Mrs. DeVantier was a native of the Town of Wheatfield and moved to Niagara Falls in 1926. She was a member of St. Paul Calvary Lutheran Church and wife of the late Max Haseley and John DeVantier. Felix P. Walck, 75, of 1627 Michigan Ave., died at his home Friday (May 8, 1964) following a two year illness.
He was born in the Town of Wheatfield March 20, 1889, the son of Phillip and Marie Haseley Walck.
He owned a farm on the Walmore Road until 1943, when he moved to Niagara Falls, where he had operated a dairy since 1935. Mr. Walck was a lifelong member of St Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore. He was a former church trustee and a charter member of the church brotherhood. He was a charter member and an exempt member of the Bergholtz Fire Co. and a member of the Niagara Falls Milk Council. He is survived by his widow. Agatha Auguste Retz1aff Walck; a son, Howard F. Walck, of Sanborn; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Jennis) Pankow, of Niagara Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Hulda Haseley and Mrs. Hubert R. Mrs. Elisie Haseley
SANB0RN-Mrs. Elisie Haseley, 73, of 2174 Saunders Settlement Road, this community, died Wednesday (March 9, 1966) at Ransomville General Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Walmore, June 5, 1892, she was the daughter of Philip and Marie Walck. She lived in this area all her life.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, a charter member and first president of the Ladies Aid Society when it was formed about 30 years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Haseley observed their 50th wedding anniversary in May of 1963.

Woman Shoots Self to Death in Home Here
Shot through the head in the bedroom of her home shortly after 7 pm. yesterday, Mrs. Ruth Gandt, 44 years old, 3245 North avenue, died almost instantly, acordlngto Coroner James.W. Heary, who said that the fatal wound was self inflicted. Mrs. Gandt has recently suffered a nervous breakdown and was being treated by a physician and, according to her husband, William Gandt, had frequently threatened to end her life. He told Coroner Heary and police who investigated that while he was drinking coffee in the kitchen of his home last evening his wife went into her bedroom and a few minutes later he heard a shot. He investigated and found her lying unconscious on the floor with his 22 calibre rifle under her body. He called police and Patrolmen John J. Collins, Charles Chappie, Detective Lieutenant Thomas Wasley and Detective William Wilson responded and found the woman dead when they arrived. The bullet had entered her right temple and lodged in her brain. Coroner Heary said that although his Investigation is not completed he expects to issue a. certificate of death by suicide. Born in Middleport, June 27, 1901, Mrs. Gandt came to this city 29 years ago. She leaves her husband. William H. Gandt; a son, William A. Gandt, and a brother, Fred R. Loge. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm., Friday at the Gridley Funeral home. 750 Main street, and a half hour later, in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church. The Rev. Leonhard M. Ludwig, DD., pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

GRAND ISLAND — Olga E. Wermuth, in her 100th year, of Youngstown, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, in Elderwood Health Care at Riverwood on Grand Island, NY.

Olga was born April 25, 1912 in Sanborn, NY, the daughter of the late John and Augusta (Stoelting) Strasburg and graduated from Holy Ghost Lutheran Church School. She married Frederick A. Wermuth on June 21, 1941. Frederick predeceased her on April 3, 1971.

Olga was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Youngstown for many years. A homemaker, she was a devoted mother and Christian. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and quilting.

She is survived by her children, Carol Wermuth of Chillicothe, OH, Dorothy (William) Hagan of Vancouver, WA, Sharon (Ray) Ingram of Geneseo, NY, and Neil (Mara) Wermuth of Glouster, MA; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Burnett Strasburg; and four sisters, Hilda Hermanson, Elena Read, Alma Herbst and Ida Schworm.

Robert N. Strasburg, a retired Niagara Steel Finishing supervisor, died Monday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was 89.
Mr. Strasburg was born in Sanborn and attended Holy Ghost Lutheran School and Hoover Road Elementary School.
He was employed as a supervisor at Niagara Steel Finishing for 41 years, retiring in 1981.
He was an exempt member of Sanborn Fire Company and had been a member of its band for many years.
His wife of 55 years, the former Ann Hecker, died in 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Dunlavy of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Janice E. Brewer of Rochester; two sons, R. LOCKPORT — Alma S. Herbst, age 92, of Lockport, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Eastern Niagara Memorial Hospital in Newfane.

Mrs. Herbst was born on February 10, 1920 in Sanborn, NY, the daughter of the late John and Augusta (Stoelting) Strasburg. On January 11, 1947, she married the late Elmore Herbst, who died in January of 1992. For 40 years, together with her husband, they operated Maplehurst Farm on Ridge Road in the Town of Cambria.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge, and a past member of its Ladies Aid Society. Alma also enjoyed greeting guests at Maplehurst Bed & Breakfast. She loved baking, quilting, tatting and gardening.

She is survived by two daughters, Gail (David) Miller of Medina, NY and Jill (Ronald) Bargiel of Huntingdon, PA; two sons, John Herbst of Lexington, KY and Mark Herbst of Lockport; her grandchildren, Marshall Herbst (KY), Alicia (Drew) Mease (SC), and Benjamin Bargiel (PA); three great-grandchildren; a sister, Olga (Strasburg) Wermuth of Youngstown; and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church; the former Sanborn United Methodist Church Women's Guild; she was a life member of the American Legion Post 969, Ladies Auxiliary, where was a past president. She was also a member of the Sanborn Area Historical Society and the Sanbornite Senior Citizens. Surviving is her husband of 59 years, Lionel L. "Les" Read; two sons, William L. [ Ruth ] Read; Ronald L. Read, all of Sanborn; a brother, Robert Strasburg, of Niagara Falls; three sisters, Olga Wermuth, of Youngstown; Hilda Hermanson, of Sanborn; Alma Herbst, of Lockport, NY; two granddaughters, Kimberly Bolos; Andrea Hughes; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ida E. Schworm and Burnett Strasburg. The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM, Tuesday, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 PM, with the Rev. Ida E. Schworm, 79, of the Town of Niagara, NY, formerly of Gasport, NY, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, NY, after a brief illness. She was born on December 14, 1922, the daughter of John and Augusta (Stoelting) Strasburg and had been a resident of Sanborn, NY, before moving to Gasport, NY in 1965.

She moved to the Town of Niagara a year ago. Mrs. Schworm was a graduate of LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls, NY. She was employed for over 25 years as an executive secretary for the Bell Telephone Company, prior to her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, NY, the Telephone Pioneers of America, the American Legion Post 969, Ladies Auxiliary, Sanborn, NY and the International Association of Administrative Assistants.

Mrs. Schworm was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Lewis H. Schworm, who died on May 6, 1999. Surviving are four sisters, Olga Wermuth of Youngstown, NY, Hilda Hermanson of Sanborn, NY, Alma Herbst of Lockport, NY and Elena Read of Sanborn, NY; a brother, Robert Strasburg of Niagara Falls, NY; also by several nieces and nephews. The family will be present at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2759 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, with the Rev. Edward O. Grimenstein officiating. Alice Violet Becken, 78, a native of Niagara Falls, died Monday (Sept. 13, 1993) in her home on Creekside Drive.
The former Alice Violet Strasburg was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and its Evangelism Committee and the Grace Ladies. Her husband, Arnold, died in 1984. Survivors include five daughters, Anita Foreman of Jackson, N.J., Suzanne Wheeler of Pittsford, Arlene Cheff of Hinsdale, ILl., Sharon Weiling of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Gretchen Waggoner of Lewiston; a son, Arnold Jr. of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; two brothers, Allen R. YOUNGSTOWN — James W. Strasburg, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on October 24, 1920, the son of the late Robert and Violet (Wendt) Strasburg.

Mr. Strasburg graduated from Niagara Falls High School and had attended Cornell University. He served with the US ARMY Air Corps as a 1st Lt. during World War II and later served for 26 years with the Air Force Reserve, 914th Carrier Group as a navigator, before retiring in 1970. Mr. Strasburg was the sales manager for Wendt's Dairy from 1947 until 1965 and had owned and operated a dry-cleaners and Laundromat for several years. He then became the Vice President of the Food Service Division with Tops Markets, from 1965 to 1991, where he became a consultant for Tops, from 1991 until retiring in 1994.

Mr. Strasburg is survived by his wife, Roberta M. (Wilson) Strasburg; one son, Stephen (Debra) Strasburg of Ann Arbor, MI; two daughters, Susan (Stephen) Hartman of Sioux Falls, SD and Cynthia (John) Koeneman of Barrington, IL; three-step daughters, Diane (Garry) Carr of Youngstown, NY, Denise (Dennis) Hoover of Ransomville, NY and Debra (Andy) Roberts of Niagara Falls, ON. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Allen Strasburg, Alice (Arnold) Becken, Ruth (John) Schnadeeck.

The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, on Sunday from 4-8 PM. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport Street, Youngstown, NY, with the Rev. Richard E. Blemaster officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Young Man of 20 Called by Death
SANBORN, Jan. 11.-Howard C. Haseley, 21 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Haseley, of the Saunders Settlement road, two miles west of this village, died today at the Memorial hospital, Niagara Falls. Mr. Haseley underwent an operation about three weeks ago and was on the road to recovery and removed to his home. Later a relapse developed and he was returned to the institution. Besides the parents, Mr. Haseley is survived by one brother, Milton, and one sister, Sylvia, both at home. Funeral services will be held from the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at St. Peter's church, Walmore, at 2:30. Interment will be in Walmore cemetery.

Jagow (Haseley), age 94, of North Tonawanda, formerly of Sanborn, was called to her heavenly home to be with our Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2009, while at the Niagara Hospice House in the Town of Lockport, after a short illness. Born in the Town of Lewiston, Niagara County, NY on July 16, 1914 to the late George and Eleanora (Walck) Haseley. Sylvia was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Walmore, where she was active in the church women's organizations and church choir. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting and gardening. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Herbert A. Milton N. Haseley, 84, of Crestwood Health Facility, formerly of the Town of Lewiston, died July 11, 2001, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. He was born in the Town of Lewiston on August 4, 1916, to George and Eleanora (Walck) Haseley. He was a lifelong resident of the town and a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Walmore. He was self-employed as a fruit and produce farmer for most of his life. He was a past member of Lewiston No. 2 Fire Company, Colonial Village. Survivors include one sister, Sylvia Jagow of Sanborn; three nephews, James, Herbert Jr., and Roger Jagow; three great-nieces and two great-nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Howard Haseley. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz, in Wheatfield. The Rev.
