16, 1903, at Alexander and resided there

ago. He leaves, besides his parents, a
sister Ida, a brother Rudolph; three
step-brothers, Adolph, John and Charles,
and two step-sisters, Mrs. Rose. Broeker
and Mrs. Irene Mellenthein.
Tbe funeral took place this afternoon
from St. Mark's Lutheran church on
Washington street, of which he was a
member, the Rev. Mr. Frankenstein
officiating. The burial was at Tonawanda.

Farmer Accidentally Falls Into Well and Is Drowned
Adolph Schroeder, Well Known Upper Mountain Road Resident, Believed to Have Been Seized with Dizzy Spell; Straw Hat Leads to Discovery of Body
Believed to have been seized with a dizzy spell, Adolph Schroeder, 54, fell into a well on his farm on the Upper Mountain road, a short distance west of the Baker hill, early yesterday afternoon, and drowned. It was not until several hours later that the fate of the man was learned. The discovery of his straw hat, floating on the surface of the water in the well, led to the location of his body. Following lunch yesterday, several farmhands, employed by Mr. Schroeder, left for the fields on the farm to resume work. Their employer promised to follow as soon as he watered the horses to be used in working the crops. When several hours passed and Mr. Schroeder failed to appear, search was instituted for him. With the location of the body, Coroner J. E. Helwig was summoned. The sheriff's office in Lockport was notified and deputies were detailed to take the body from the well. Mr. Schroeder's watch stopped at 12:45 o'clock, indicating that he fell into the well at that time. Dr. Helwig had the body removed to Pike's mortuary in Sanborn to be prepared for burial. Mr. Schroeder was one of the best known farmers on the Upper Mountain road. He is survived by a daughter, Margaret, at home. Mr. Schroeder lived with a brother, John, besides his daughter. Others surviving are a brother, Charles, of Byron; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Broker of North Tonawanda and Mrs. Irene Millenthine of Lewiston and his stepmother, Mrs. Paul Schroeder of Niagara Falls.

Karl was born in North Tonawanda, New York and was the eldest of six and last remaining of his generation. Karl was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy and served on the Submarines USS Piper and ship keeper of the USS Cod in Cleveland, Ohio. Karl died peacefully after suffering from Alzheimer's for several years. Interment and service at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024 on Friday, March 9th at 12:30 with a reception to follow. Laura Ruth Payne, age 103, of Lockport, formerly of Hartland, entered into rest on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport surrounded by her loving family. Born August 5, 1912 in Cambria, Laura is the daughter of the late Rudolph and Minnie (Seelow) Schrader.
Laura married Chester J. Payne on April 24, 1930 in Cambria by Reverend Woodward. Mr. Payne died October 13, 1982.
Laura greatly enjoyed Bingo and had many lifelong friendships. She liked to crochet and made beautiful gifts for her family and friends. Her memory was vivid and she never failed to remember family events and happenings.
Surviving Laura are her dear children, Roger (the late Karen) Payne of Appleton, Loretta (Douglas) McCanty of Florida, Joan (John) Thompson of Lockport, Patricia (John) Chambers of Florida, Kathleen (Terry) Payne of Lyndonville, Bruce (Sue) Payne of Gasport, Chester (Nancy) Payne of Middleport and James (Nicole) Payne of Barker and the late Eugene and Evalyn Payne. Sister of the late Jess Schrader, Francis Reed, Esther Reed and Christopher and Sylvia Schrader.

MELLENTHIEN – Robert F. Mellenthien, 63 of 230 Ward Rd., North Tonawanda, suddenly Tuesday (Nov. 13, 1973). Mr. Mellenthien was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, former elder of the Church and the Lutheran Layman’s League.

He is survived by his wife, Leona Mellenthien ; a son, Robert F. Mellenthien of North Tonawanda; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) smith of Tonawanda; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Mildred) Eydt of Niagara Falls, Mrs. Ward (Irene) Miller of Tonawanda, and Mrs. Gladys Daunce of Stuyvesant, N.Y.

Cooper went to police h e a d q u a r t e rs
and. a f t e r m a k i n g a r e p o r t of t h e ac-
cident was not d e t a i n e d . He said he
did not see the boy until he dashed
from t h e curb in front of the automobile.
Cooper said that it was im-
possible to avoid h i t t i n g t h e lad.

LEWISTON - Betty Jane Wurl, an extraordinary cook and seamstress, was called to her heavenly home on Friday (April 4, 2014) in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home, Lewiston, following a lengthy illness. She was 89.

The former Betty Fritz was born in North Tonawanda to Walter and Leona Fritz and was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School.

Mrs. Wurl was well-known as a cook in the Wheatfield area and was famous for her pork chops and German potato salad. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting and sewing.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Fred "Fritz" Wurl of Lewiston; a son, Dennis (Edele) of Wheatfield; a daughter, Kathleen (Stephen) Keller of Wheatfield; a brother, Gordon Fritz of Buffalo; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Wurl.

There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will take place at 11 AM Saturday (4/12/14) in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Park, North Tonawanda. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Gordon W. Fritz "Gordie," age 85, passed peacefully January 8, 2015 at High Pointe Nursing Facility after a long illness. Gordon was born on April 1, 1929 to the late Walter and Leona (nee Broecker) Fritz and was an Anny veteran of the Korean War. A life-long resident of Martinsville, North Tonawanda, he was employed at Shawnee Meat Market for over 40 years and then part-time at Federal Markets. Gordon was a very active former member of the North Tonawanda Planning Board, and attended numerous planning and school board meetings. He was also a member of the Western New York Woodturners. Gordon took great pride in his home that he built and lived in for almost 60 years; he enjoyed working on cars, making beautiful items from wood, cooking and listening to music.

Beloved husband to Betty and the late Mary Claire; dear father of Daniel (Heidi), Peter (Theresa), Donna (Leo) Nalbach, Michael (Ellen) and William (Leigh); dear grandfather of Diana, Robert, Kaitlyn, Melanie, Jonathan, Monica, Nicole, Claire, David, Joshua and Caleb; great-grandfather of Scarlet; step-father of Eric Kruss; brother of the late Betty Wurl, brother-in-law of Frederick "Fritz" Wurl.

NORTH TONAWANDA — Mary Jane (nee Weinheimer) Dexheimer, age 86, of North Tonawanda, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport. Mrs. Dexheimer was born on February 10, 1925 in North Tonawanda, daughter of the late Edward and Eleanor Weinheimer. Mrs. Dexheimer was President and former General Manager of White Chapel Memorial Park for nearly fifty years. She was a member of Adams Fire Co. Auxiliary and the Wheatfield Senior Citizens. Mrs. Dexheimer over the years had made and donated 700 lap robes to local Nursing Homes.

Mrs. Dexheimer is predeceased by her husband, LaVern, who passed away in 1995. Beloved mother of David (Deborah) Dexheimer of North Tonawanda, Bonnie (Tom) Lowe of Depew and Mark (Carmen) Dexheimer of Sanborn: loving grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of eleven.

Roger was owner operator of R.C. Payne Trucking of Appleton and he had worked at Oak Orchard Concrete in Medina.
Roger married Karen "Tootie" Brigham November 11, 1961 at the Gasport Congregational Church. Karen died June 1, 1998. Roger was in the United States Air Force serving from October 1, 1961 until August 24, 1962.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, children and grandchildren. Roger had a passion for hunting, vintage cars and trucks and loved taking care of his garden.

Robert F. Mellenthien, of Phillip Street, North Tonawanda, a truck driver, died Thursday (Jan. 9, 1997) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda. He was 63.

He drove a truck for H.J. Mye Lumber Co. in North Tonawanda

Mellenthien was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda and Teamsters Local 449.

He was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, the former Caroline A. Bajorek; five daughters, Deborah Beranger of Grand Island, Sue Gentzke of Peachtree, Ga., Kathy LeBar of North Tonawanda, and Sandy Davis and Sally Grzeskowiak, both of the City of Tonawanda; his mother, Leona Mellenthien of North Tonawanda; a sister, Evelyn Smith of Cheektowaga; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1135 Oliver St., North Tonawanda. Burial will be in Acacia Park-Resthaven Cemetery, Pendleton.
