    William Broecker
    The funeral of William Broecker who died Sunday afternoon at his home on the
    Ward road, town of Wheatfield, aged 86, was held this afternoon at 3 o'clock
    from the late residence and half an hour later at St. John's Church, St.
    Johnsburg. Burial was made in St. John's cemetery. Mr. Broecker has lived
    in the town of Wheatfield the greater part of his life and was among the
    best known residents of the town. For the last eighteen years he had been
    an invalid.
    Surviving are four sons, Albert Broecker, Youngstown, N.Y.; William and
    Herman Broecker of North Tonawanda and Gustav Broecker of Martinsville; one
    daughter, Mrs. William Heppner of St. Johnsburg; 31 grandchildren, eighteen
    great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Christine Hamnemann of North
    Tonawanda.

    GUSTAV BROECKER CALLED BY DEATH
    North Tonawanda - Gustav F. Broecker, 70, who died Thursday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Weinheimer, 402 Niagara Falls Blvd. was born in the Town of Wheatfield where he resided all his life with the exception of last month spent at his daughters home. Mr. Broecker is survived by his wife Mary, two sons, William of the Town of Wheatfield, and Benjamin of North Tonawanda, five daughters, Mrs. Weinheimer, Mrs. Ernest Bluhm of Lockport, Mrs. William Mueller of Sanborn, NY, Mrs. Erwin Wendt of the Town of Wheatfield, and Mrs. Howard Human of Sanborn, 17 grandchildren; a brother, William, of North Tonawanda, and a sister. Mrs William Heppner. of St. Johnsburg. N. Y. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of Mrs. Weinheimer and half an hour later at the St. Paul's church in Martinsville. NY. The Rev. F. A. Hinners will officiate. Interment will be in St Paul's cemetery.

    Tuesday, December 12, 1922
    Herman A. Broecker, 49 years old, of 30 Monroe avenue, died suddenly early this morning in the DeGraff Memorial hospital. Mr. Broecker was taken ill a week ago but was not removed to the hospital until last night. He was born in Wheatfield and moved here about seven years ago. He is survived by his widow Rose, two sons, Raymond, Nelson; six daughters, Viola, Eleanor, Loretta, Dorothy, Mrs. Louis Stanz and Mrs. Walter Fritz; three brothers, Albert of Youngstown, N. Y., William of North Tonawanda and Gustave of Martinsville and one sister, Mrs. William Heppner of St. Johnsberg. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence and from St Mark's church a half hour later. Rev. Paul Fretthold will officiate. Burial will be held at Elmlawn.

    and Mrs. Albert Broeker. He
    was formerly the caretaker for

    Lewiston. He was a charter
    member of Youngstown
    Exempt Fire Co. and a
    member of St. John's Lutheran
    Church and Lutheran Laymen
    League.
    He is survived by his widow,
    Anna (Grambo) Broeker; a
    son, Erwin Broeker, Niagara
    Falls; two brothers, Arthur
    Broeker of Youngstown, and
    Roy of Niagara Falls; four
    sisters, Mrs. Alta Cornell of
    Wilson, Mrs. Philip Nichols,
    Lewiston, Mrs. Fred Lloyd and
    Mrs. Walter Bars, both of
    Youngstown; two grandsons,
    Patrick Broeker, Los Angeles,
    Calif., and Penny Buyers, of
    Cheyenne, Wyo.
    Funeral services will be held
    at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's
    Lutheran Church, here, with
    the Rev. Elvin J. Riemer officiating.
    Burial will be in
    Memorial Park Cemetery.
    Friends may call at the Lane
    Funeral Home, here, from 2 to
    5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and
    Sunday.

    YOUNGSTOWN - Clarence Broeker, 64, of 444 Lockport St., manager of the Youngstown Cold Storage Co. here for 18 years, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 1962) at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital. Mr. Broeker became ill Tuesday morning at home and was taken to the hospital in the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co. ambulance. Mr. Broeker was-born in Niagara Falls on July 17, 1897, son of Albert and Augusta Broeker. The family moved to Youngstown shortly afterward. He was a life member and trustee of St. John's Lutheran Church and a member of the Exempt Fire Co. Surviving are his widow, Ada Kolloff Broeker; a son, Calvin Broeker of Lockport Street; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Thurm, North Tonawanda; four brothers, Alfred, Arthur, and Erwin Broeker, all of Youngstown, and Roy Broeker of Niagara Falls; four sisters, Mrs. Alta Cornell, Wilson, Mrs. Mabel Nichols, Lewiston, Mrs. Alice Bars, an Mrs. Florence Lloyd, both of Youngstown, and four grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the home and at 2 p.m. at St. John's Church with Rev. Elvin J. Riemer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family said that donations to St. John's Building Fund will be acceptable as tributes.

    The former Helen Broeker was born in Wheatfield and was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. She was a homemaker for most of her life and worked for a few years in the office at her husband's company, the former Human Coal & Builders Supply Co. at Saunders Settlement and Shawnee roads. Her husband, Howard R., died in 1980. Mrs. Human enjoyed gardening.

    Ruth E. Poerschke, 87, of North Tonawanda, former Niagara County deputy commissioner of jurors, died Tuesday (Oct. 15, 1996) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a brief illness. The former Ruth E. Heppner and her husband, Bernhardt O. Poerschke, managed the Coffee Shop & Snack Bar at the Airport Bowling Lanes in Cheektowaga in the early 1950s. Her husband died in 1985. They had been married 61 years. A native of Wheatfield, she served as deputy town clerk for the Town of Wheatfield from 1968 to 1971 and as deputy commissioner of jurors from 1973 to 1978. She was a charter member and past president of the Town of Wheatfield Republican Club and the Wheatfield Senior Citizens and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She also was a charter member and past president of the Adams Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons, Robert W. of Williamsville and Richard R. of Wheatfield; four sisters, Myrtle Werth of Bergholz, Margaret Verch of North Tonawanda and Edna Chace and Gloria Dunn, both of Hallandale, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. Burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery, Wheatfield.

Born April 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lauretta (McCollum) Broeker. Bernie was a resident of Ransomville, NY before moving to Town of Niagara in 1971, and then Lewiston in 2018.As a youngster she attended a one room school and was raised on a farm in the Town of Porter. In 1942, after Pearl Harbor, her family was forced to leave their farm on orders from the U.S. government, so that they could use the property to make TNT for the Manhattan Project.Bernie graduated in 1943 from the “Red Brick” School in Youngstown, and was a secretary at DeVeaux Military Academy from 1943 to 1947. On June 12, 1947, she married Gerald (Jerry) Kraatz, who passed in 1999. In the early 60’s she worked at the family-owned Kraatz Red & White Grocery Store in Ransomville. Later on she worked as an Account Clerk at Wilson Central School for 15 years, she retired in 1981.Bernie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown and served as a deacon. She loved playing pinochle and euchre at the Lewiston Senior Center as well as traveling and volunteering at both Mt.     Helene Cornell Gough passed away December 16, 2015 at the age of 97. Born May 8, 1918 in Wilson, N.Y, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Alta Cornell.

    When she married the late John Reginald Gough, who passed away in 1984, she moved to Lockport where she lived until 1993 when she moved to Williamsville, N.Y. She worked 10 years as a bookkeeper in Lockport at the Gascoyne Dairy, Castle Dairy and retired in 1975 from Dairylea Co. Helene enjoyed walking and biking.

    She is survived by her son, Thomas J. (Cynthia) of East Amherst; and two grandchildren, Joel and Ashley. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Burgasser and Doris Cornell.

    Her body was donated to the U.B. Medical School.

    SHIRLEY'S OBITUARY

    Shirley Mae Somers passed away on June 19, 2023, at the Schoellkopf Health Center, Niagara Falls. She was 94, born on April 2, 1929, in Niagara Falls, NY. She attended the Lewiston Union School and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1946. She was on Student Council, received the Elmira Key Award, was Salutatorian of her class and a cheerleader. While in high school she worked for the famous
    Hibbard’s Custard Stand in Lewiston, NY. She attended Kelly Business Institute for Executive Secretarial and Buffalo Univ. one semester for Office Management. 
    Beginning in 1946, she was a private secretary for Leo Hapeman Real Estate and Insurance for 10 years. Subsequently, she worked for Bell Aircraft as an account clerk, as secretary to a Project Manager at Niagara Power Project and then Blauvelt Engineering Co. Finally, she joined the Jenss Dept. Store in 1966 until it’s closing. 
    She was a member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Niagara Ski Club. 
    She was married on June 21, 1958, to John R. Somers who also was an avid skier, and they went on many ski trips. Shirley was a long-time parishioner of Grace Lutheran Church and was a dedicated member of the ladies aide group, the Grace Ladies.
    Shirley is predeceased by her husband, John, her parents, Philip A. Nichols and Mabel A. Broeker Nichols, brother Floyd A. Nichols and stepdaughter JoAnne Somers Greico. She is survived by her sister Gail Boyce, nieces Dawn Harris, Phyllis Baker, Lisa Sproul and nephews Shawn Sproul and Howard Jones.
    She lived on Lindbergh Ave. in LaSalle from the time she was married until she passed. 
    There will be calling hours on Friday, July 7, from 11 AM until 1 PM in the Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, immediately following the Funeral services will begin at 1 PM.  The interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Park.

    Warren L. “Jerry” Broeker, of the Town of Niagara, passed from this earthly life on Friday May 20, 2016 at his residence with his family at his side and while under care of Niagara Hospice. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on December 1, 1936 the son of the late Roy C. and Vera A. (Hexemer) Broeker.

    Jerry was a 1954 graduate of the former LaSalle High School and in 1955 entered Wanakena State Ranger School’s general forestry curriculum graduating in February of 1956. He was employed at Kimberly Clarke for seven months before continuing his Forestry studies at Syracuse University receiving a BSA degree in Forest Management & Forest Engineering, proudly graduating in 1960. During his college studies he was employed doing survey work for Bero Construction & Railroad Waterproofing Company.

    Following graduation, Jerry worked in the survey crew for Johnson Drake and Piper, a heavy road contractor. In 1962 he was hired as a surveyor and quantity person with the Herbert F. Darling Engineering & Construction Company and was elevated to Superintendant in 1964, a position in which he held until his retirement in 1999. Six years following his retirement, the Herbert F. Darling Company continued to call Jerry back to assist with his expertise on their major projects during the summer.

    Mr. Broeker enlisted and proudly served for six years in the US Army National Guard with the 90th Artillery and later with the 174th Armored Division in Niagara Falls until his honorable discharge in 1966.

    On April 15, 1961 he married the former Linda Ann Hepfer and were happily married for over 50 years until her passing in March of 2015.

    Survivors include his four sons: Gary (Keith Cohn) of W. Hollywood, CA; Jeff of Monument, CO; Kyle (Maria) of Doylestown, PA and Shaun of Niagara Falls, NY. Grandchildren: Jeff Jr. of the Town of Tonawanda; Shelby (Rob) Donohue of Niagara Falls, NY; Matthew & Gabrielle of Monument, CO and Maxxim & Skyler of Doylestown, PA. a great-grandson Julian of the Town of Tonawanda and a sister Patti Jean (Bill) Shaefer of N. Tonawanda, NY.

    Also surviving is Jerry’s good friend and companion Dorothy Sorley who on May 14th of this year entered into and celebrated a Commitment Ceremony. In addition, he will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Jerry was a longtime and active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer and at various times a trustee position for 12 years. He also served as a volunteer with the Escort Department and as the Care Van driver at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for 14 years. He was an avid enthusiast of all sports however, enjoyed participating in bowling, golf, basketball and softball.

    The family will be present Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Thursday morning from 10 AM to 12 Noon in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Friends are invited to services on Friday at 11 AM in the First United Methodist Church, 8210 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14304 with the Rev. Jean Edmister officiating. Private burial committal services will be held in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Town of Lewiston at the convenience of the family.

Kenneth was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School and served in the United States Air Force for 23 years where he earned many awards and honorable mentions. He was a Vietnam veteran.     Ruth E. DeVantier of the Town of Cambria, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Facility.   She was born in  the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on November 4, 1929, the daughter of the late William and Louise [Broecker]  Mueller.
    Mrs. DeVantier was a Tupperware dealer for over 40 years and  was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
    She enjoyed spending time with her family, baking and gardening.
    Mrs. DeVantier was the wife of the late Elmer A. DeVantier, who passed away in June of 2002.
    She  was the mother of  Robert (Susan) DeVantier,  Susan (late William) Thompson and Sharon (Kenneth) Walker and the late Richard DeVantier, six grandchildren Rebecca Drabczk and Christina DeVantier, Michelle Thompson,  Jayme  (Paul) Mohr, Dan and Andrew Walker, two great grandchildren Sara and Sean, also many  nieces and nephews.
    Mrs. DeVantier was the sister of a late brother and sister.

Leon was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, in North Tonawanda, enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, was an automotive buff, and a fanatic basketball fan and coached several girls basketball teams. Survivors include two brothers, Roger (Carol) Wendt of North Tonawanda, and Gerald Wendt of Amherst. He was preceded in death by a brother, Noel Wendt.There will be a memorial service scheduled in January 2024, with the date and time to be announced.     LEWISTON - Betty Jane Wurl, an extraordinary cook and seamstress, was called to her heavenly home on Friday (April 4, 2014) in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home, Lewiston, following a lengthy illness. She was 89.

    The former Betty Fritz was born in North Tonawanda to Walter and Leona Fritz and was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School.

    Mrs. Wurl was well-known as a cook in the Wheatfield area and was famous for her pork chops and German potato salad. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting and sewing.

    Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Fred "Fritz" Wurl of Lewiston; a son, Dennis (Edele) of Wheatfield; a daughter, Kathleen (Stephen) Keller of Wheatfield; a brother, Gordon Fritz of Buffalo; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Wurl.

    There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will take place at 11 AM Saturday (4/12/14) in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Park, North Tonawanda. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Arrangements were with the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME (731-3234).

    Gordon W. Fritz "Gordie," age 85, passed peacefully January 8, 2015 at High Pointe Nursing Facility after a long illness. Gordon was born on April 1, 1929 to the late Walter and Leona (nee Broecker) Fritz and was an Anny veteran of the Korean War. A life-long resident of Martinsville, North Tonawanda, he was employed at Shawnee Meat Market for over 40 years and then part-time at Federal Markets. Gordon was a very active former member of the North Tonawanda Planning Board, and attended numerous planning and school board meetings. He was also a member of the Western New York Woodturners. Gordon took great pride in his home that he built and lived in for almost 60 years; he enjoyed working on cars, making beautiful items from wood, cooking and listening to music.

    Beloved husband to Betty and the late Mary Claire; dear father of Daniel (Heidi), Peter (Theresa), Donna (Leo) Nalbach, Michael (Ellen) and William (Leigh); dear grandfather of Diana, Robert, Kaitlyn, Melanie, Jonathan, Monica, Nicole, Claire, David, Joshua and Caleb; great-grandfather of Scarlet; step-father of Eric Kruss; brother of the late Betty Wurl, brother-in-law of Frederick "Fritz" Wurl.

    NORTH TONAWANDA — Mary Jane (nee Weinheimer) Dexheimer, age 86, of North Tonawanda, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport. Mrs. Dexheimer was born on February 10, 1925 in North Tonawanda, daughter of the late Edward and Eleanor Weinheimer. Mrs. Dexheimer was President and former General Manager of White Chapel Memorial Park for nearly fifty years. She was a member of Adams Fire Co. Auxiliary and the Wheatfield Senior Citizens. Mrs. Dexheimer over the years had made and donated 700 lap robes to local Nursing Homes.

    Mrs. Dexheimer is predeceased by her husband, LaVern, who passed away in 1995. Beloved mother of David (Deborah) Dexheimer of North Tonawanda, Bonnie (Tom) Lowe of Depew and Mark (Carmen) Dexheimer of Sanborn: loving grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of eleven.

    Friends may call on Tuesday from 3-8 PM at the WATTENGEL Funeral Home, 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, where Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM.     She was the wife of the late LeRoy Eugene Boehnke. Beloved mother of Mark (Sherri) Boehnke of Wheatfield; Eric Boehnke of Amherst; Adam (Diane) Boehnke of Amherst; Esther (Patrick) Hemingway of Manchester, CT; and Marla (Richard) Kelly of Amherst. Grandmother of nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sister of Phyllis (late Robert) Tokarczyk of Michigan; aunt of many nieces and nephews.

    Robert W. Poerschke, a former deli owner from Amherst, died Saturday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 85.

    Born in North Tonawanda, Mr. Poerschke attended North Tonawanda High School. He was a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II and also served in the Korean War.

    From 1947 to 1982, he coowned and operated Muellers Delicatessen on Bailey Avenue, known for its specialty sandwiches.

    Mr. Poerschke was a past member of the Adams Fire Company and North East Lodge, F&AM. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. He also liked to play euchre and pinochle.

    Mr. Poerschke is survived by his wife, the former Annamarie Mueller.

    Services will be at 11:30 a. m. today in Amigone Funeral Home, 5200 Sheridan Drive, Amherst.
