Veteran Fireman Dies at Age of 73
North Tonawanda, April 28 - Andrew Jerog (sic), 73 years old, is dead at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Brookes Dawson, No. 233 Fredericka street. He was a charter member of the first fire company in North Tonawanda. For years he was a leading Rebublican of the city. Besides his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Dawson, Mrs. Ida Roy and Mrs. Warren Olcott and four sons, Andrew, Frank, and Arthur Jeorg of North Tonawanda and William Jeorg of Lewiston, survive.

John Joerg, 51 years old, a lifelong resident of Niagara county, died at his home on the Town Line road, Beach Ridge, yesterday morning after a lingering illness. Mr. Joerg was born in North Tonawanda and had moved into the town of Wheatfield many years ago. Two brothers, Andrew Joerg of Grand Island and William Joerg of Beach Ridge and one sister, Mrs. Henry Keil of North Tonawanda, survive. The funeral will be held from the Joerg home at Beach Ridge tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. E.A. Schulz of the Friedens church officiating. Burial will be made in the Salem cemetery, Tonawanda

He was born in North Tonawanda, and is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Wattengel Funeral Home, Oliver street, with the Rev. Walter Hetzel officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Former Alderman, Of North Tonawanda, Dies
NORTH TONAWANDA, May 26 - Andrew J. Joerg, Jr., 62, died yesterday at his home, 24* Jackson Ave.,after a long illness. A lifelong resident, Mr. Joerg served two terms as alderman. He was a member of Sutherland Lodge 826, F. and A. M. and the Buffalo Underwriters association. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances Howe Joerg; two daughters, Miss Marjory Joerg and Mrs. Edward Fischer; two grandchildren; a brother, Frank C. Joerg, and three sisters, Mrs. Brooks Dawson, Mrs. Ida Roy and Mrs. Warren Olcott, all of the Tonawandas. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at the Hilliard funeral home, 147 Delaware street. The Rev. Theodore Mayer will officiate and interment will be in Elmlawn cemetery.

TYPHOID TAKES MISS OLGA JOERG
Sad Death of Popular North Tonawanda Young Woman Occured this Morning at Home of Her Parents in Main Street -Sister Seriously Ill. Miss Olga Joerg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Joerg of Main street, passed away at her home this morning after an illness of scarcely two weeks. Typhoid fever was the cause of the young woman's death. Miss Joerg was one of the most widely known young women in North Tonawanda, and was very popular with all who knew her. The news of her sad death will be a shock to a large circle of friends. She was considered out of danger until an hour before the end came. Miss Vena(sic) Joerg, a younger sister of Miss Olga, is seriously ill at her parents' home, and grave fears are entertained for her recovery.

ORCHARD PARK — Ruth J. (nee Joerg) Anderson, age 84, of North Tonawanda, June 13, 2010 at Absolut Care of Orchard Park. A resident of North Tonawanda for the greater part of her life, she was a 1943 graduate of North Tonawanda High School and received her Bachelor of Education from Buffalo State Teacher’s College in 1947. Ruth began her teaching career at Fletcher Elementary School in Tonawanda in 1947. She continued teaching at Pine Woods Elementary School in North Tonawanda in 1956, and also Gilmore Elementary School in 1966, retiring from teaching in 1970. Following her retirement, Ruth was employed by Cramer Industrial Supplies in North Tonawanda for 10 years until 1982. She was an active member of Salem United Church of Christ, serving on the church council, assisting at worship services, Sunday School teacher, church Elder and usher. She was a former President and Secretary of Kiwani-Annes of Buffalo and a Life Member of Buffalo State Teachers Alumni.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Allen O. Anderson; two sons, Roy D. (Sharon) Anderson of Barker, NY, and David J. Anderson of the Town of Wheatfield; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Matilda Joerg; and sister of the late Betty Meyers, Arthur and Richard Joerg.

There was no prior visitation. A private interment in White Chapel Memorial Park. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service Wednesday, August 18th at 11 AM in Salem United Church of Christ, 114 Morgan St., in Tonawanda. The Rev. John L. Tipton will officiate. Obituary for Richard Dean Keil
Richard Dean Keil died of natural causes on June 11, 2024. He was age 103 years and 4
days young.
Richard was born in 1921 in Haileyville, Oklahoma, a town of approximately 800 people, to
Albert Keil and Florence Easton. He lived on a farm with his two brothers, two sisters, four
horses and parents. He rode his horse to school and learned to hunt at an early age,
acquiring a lifetime love of the outdoors.
At age 14, Richard and his family moved to North Tonawanda where he spent the rest of his
life. He initially attended a one-room schoolhouse on Niagara Falls Blvd. He graduated with
honors from N. Tonawanda High School and received an American Legion leadership
award.
Following high school, Richard enlisted in the US Army where he served for one year.
Subsequently, World War II expanded and Richard’s life as a civilian was interrupted. He
was drafted by the US Army for a second term of about three years. He was assigned to the
US 8th Airforce, European theater, based in England. He was a B-29 bomber crew chief.
Richard also had musical talents the Army recognized, and they enlisted him as a tuba
player who also played strings in the Army’s dance band. Harmonica was another of his
favorite instruments.
After the war, Richard married Jane Ewald, and they raised a family. Richard earned a
bachelor’s degree in education from University of Buffalo. He taught school in Cato, NY
briefly before returning to N. Tonawanda and joining Bell Aerospace in 1950 where he spent
the rest of his career in contracts management. He is proud to have worked on the
Minuteman missile and other notable projects.
Richard had many interests and hobbies, including hunting, fishing, camping, business
news and personal investing. He never met a garage sale he didn’t like. He held leadership
responsibilities in his local church and the Chautauqua Institute Disciples of Christ
Richard earned media attention as a centenarian and WWII veteran. He participated in two
Honor Flights to Washington, DC. He frequently spoke to students and veteran groups
about his life experiences. He acquired many new friends later in life who met regularly for
coffee and conversation at Tim Hortons.
Richard’s wife, Jane, and his four siblings predeceased him. He is survived by his four
children: Douglas Keil (Beverly); Deborah Cramer (David); David Keil (Karen); and Dena
Lupke (late Robert); ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Richard lived independently through his advanced age in part because of the excellent care
he received over many years from the VA Hospital of Buffalo. He also enjoyed a network of
neighbors and good friends who were there when he needed them.
Visitation will be on June 19 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Wattengel Funeral Home, 533
Meadow Drive, N. Tonawanda, NY. Services will follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers,
