He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965 in Niagara Falls, NY where he met and married Karen (Haseley) Hicks on August 6, 1966. In 1971, they moved to Bristol, TN where he was employed and later retired from Ball Corporation. He enjoyed car racing, hunting, and golfing, as well as RV traveling and Airstream camping. His parents and his beloved daughter, Melinda Jenkins, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Rebecca Whittemore (Matthew), and sons Jonathan Hicks (Renita), Christopher Hicks, and son-in-law H. Neff Jenkins; grandchildren Luke, Kelly, and Avery Jenkins, Colin and Mallory Whittemore; and brother Jack Hicks (Marian). 2. | HICKS, Melinda Beth (1.Donald1) was born on 5 Jul 1967 in Town of Lewiston, Niagara County, NY; died on 2 Aug 2017 in Jacksonville, Duval County, FL. Notes: Melinda Hicks Jenkins, age 50, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2017 with her family by her side. Her journey with cancer was an example of strength and courage to all who knew her. Born on July 5, 1967 in Lewiston, New York, Melinda grew up in Bristol, Tennessee. She graduated from Tennessee High School and East Tennessee State University. In addition to her bachelor's degree, Melinda earned her master's degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University and worked as a social worker for the VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. Melinda married her husband, Neff Jenkins, on October 17, 1998. They relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in June of 1999. In Jacksonville she continued her career in social work at the Children's Home Society and Baptist Medical Center until her first child was born. Melinda was a devoted wife, a loving and dedicated mother, a skilled cook, and the best friend anyone could have. She was quick with a smile, adventurous, fun loving, thoughtful, and a loyal friend. Melinda had a strong faith in God and lived her faith through her family and friends.
